Tales of the Competency Crisis - How do I into anything?

We almost need a system where we basically get rid of our current form of higher education, and have some sort of system in place where all training is done by actual and successful people working in the field.
It’s called Trade School, and half of them are scams. Were already at a tipping point and I do really think that over the next decade degrees are going to matter far, far less then work experience. AI is unironically going to get rid of most email/admin jobs, which has been most of first world job creation of the last half a century, next will be service jobs, and eventually the trades will be heavily automated. I think the inevitability is going to have to be UBI of some kind, but if first world nations do that without securing there borders holocausting/sterilizing the global south it will lead to the total brazilifaction of human society

The system is largely fine, my own biases aside. The main trouble is administration, parents, and funding.

High Schools:
Bunch of problems here that have nothing to do with the teachers. Without writing a thesis on the matter, they follow:
  • Can't fail students. Parents will whine and moan if little retarded Gayden isn't getting an A+ in the AP class because he NEEDS to get into the best college.
  • Can't bin students. Parents will whine and moan if Jamal Dindu McBastardson isn't in the AP class despite never showing up to class.
  • Can't eliminate disruptive/violent students.
  • Teachers are given a shit curriculum that favors absurd teaching methods or busywork.
  • Can't fire shit teachers.
  • Funding won't let you adequately reward good teachers and encourage new talent to join the field.
  • LGBT golems reproduce by fucking kids physically and mentally.
Community Colleges/Trade Schools:
Bag of worms. Some are good. Some are shit. Can't say much beyond it. Anything with online certificates is a scam.

Universities:
Runs the gamut from cash grab, infinite jeet importation scam, absolutely worthless, to the most exceptional system known to man.

The main issue to understand with universities is that there are literally too many of them and the appetite for higher education even if you can't get into a top university is near endless. I'll keep it brief, but there's a bunch of very simple reforms needed at this level:
  • Close cash grab universities. No more discussion necessary.
  • Eliminate masters' degrees. They're mostly a waste of money and time and contribute to the credentialism crisis. They're also a leading source of infinite H1B jeets who will show up as "students" and then use their time in grad school as a backdoor into the US labor market.
  • Defund public support of public university departments that can't meet graduate employment and compensation criteria. It will result in lots of performing arts programs closing their doors along with scores of useless departments.
  • Revise funding schemes at public universities to favor quality of graduates over quantity. Part of this is tied to eliminating GEP programs and increasing the length of undergraduate degrees by a full year. For STEM programs in particular, modern technology is far more complex than it was 100 years ago. More time is needed to cover what is necessary to enable students to be useful day 1 to employers.
  • Segregate graduate and undergraduate education. Research professors should be developing and teaching the senior-most courses relevant to the latest advancements in the field, not introductory chemistry. Hire more full time lecturers instead of grad students to keep undergraduate education quality high.
  • Reduce total university enrollment within the US so that only the top 20% of high school students are expected to go to college. This will naturally help with reducing the overabundance of universities in the nation.
  • Limit foreign student enrollment to no more than 10% of the student population of the program (e.g. to import 1 jeet you need 9 US citizens in the program).
  • Increase state and federal-based funding for graduate studies so that Ph.D student stipends are competitive with industry work as a means of preventing foreign conquest of the US STEM infrastructure. The ratio of foreign born to US born scientists and engineers at the Ph.D level is an embarrassment. This is why your professors are mostly from India and China. Present pay for a Ph.D student in a STEM program is about $30,000 per year.

generally trades are very unlikely to be automated. It would always be cheaper to get a real person to fix your leaky plumbing then an AI, and even manufacturing still has the issue of requiring a lot of human oversight. A good example is when Tesla tried to make a completely lights off car factory and it was a complete disaster until they basically rebuilt the entire place and added people monitoring and adjusting things.

let's put it this way. say you want some sort of widget, like say a kitchen mixer. Today that mixer is made in China and has an insanely long and complicated manufacturing process that has parts being transported from all over the place and then the mixer has to cross the ocean at least once and bounce around the country a few times before it gets to you, and then after a month it breaks and cannot be repaired so you throw it in the garbage and buy a new one. Fifty years ago that same mixer would've been made locally - possibly in your own city - and if it breaks you can bring it to any repair shop and it would essentially last forever.

The current way is not sustainable, and is clearly reliant on some sort of subsidisation that is likely to vanish if shit hits the fan.

One thing I can say for certain: When/if the USD loses its world reserve currency status the cost to import stuff will increase dramatically. COVID was a teaser trailer of what that would look like, globalized logistics are extremely fragile and the US losing its top dog status will be a ww2 level world changing event so there WILL be massive disruptions and shortages as a result. I highly recommend taking advantage of cheap chinese products while you can. Installing solar and batteries and converting every fuel burning appliance in your house(central heat, stove, water heater, leafblowers, lawnmower, etc) as well as getting an electric car will insulate you from much of the inflation and energy shortages. A pool can also serve as a drinking water reservoir in an emergency. If you have the space Id recommend having a home machine shop and learning to fix cars. It probably wont happen for awhile despite all the 3rd worldist late stage capitalism retardation you see online but when it does America will be like 90s Russia. Prepare accordingly while you still have American buying power.

It would be incredibly difficult to predict what is and isn't useable. Your $70,000 electric car could be rendered an inert hunk of garbage just because a $5 part breaks that you can't afford to replace, meanwhile it might become relatively economical to use biodiesel. If there's a full catastrophic failure of the economy then you would need to be living off grid just to survive, and a partial collapse could make it hit-or-miss what you actually is needed. It's possible that if you buy a bunch of things to prepare you would just become a target that gets killed and raided.

I thought they used to allow shadowing in junior/senior year before going off to college. Maybe that was only in special schools but it should be a requirement for anyone entering the work force. That or guidance counselors (if they're still around) should give a decent over view of potential careers to a student depending on their aptitude.

Another thought is getting rid of senior year because it's basically a blow off year. It could be used for college or researching careers or covering gen ed for their college choice. Or start up apprenticeships again.

I'm American but I love to watch UK shows and in one cooking show most of the men and women who are professionals end up skipping HS and entering the work force. We don't encourage that sort of thing here but those people are intelligent despite not finishing HS or going to college. It makes me wonder if some kids even need HS or college if they already know what they want to pursue.

It might be prudent to completely restructure the education system which has basically become a glorified daycare for full grown adults. It might work best as some sort of part time thing where school is part time and the other part is dedicated training, either working with your parents or doing basic work that's regulated, or otherwise taking exploratory electives that can help further you mastering a trade (such as joining a club where you do robotics or program games or learn to weld, do research into something you're interested in, or just doing socialisation and rubbing elbows with people who can help jumpstart your carrer).

Like, imagine if school was only half as long during the week and the rest of the time you'd be learning to weld cars or do research or write books, what could you accomplish?

But something like that would require fundamentally replacing the entire education system and literally re-teaching all the teachers. Oh, and completely stopping the "no child left behind" nonsense.

You could make the same argument against diesel engines. They have way more moving parts that will need to be replaced and more failure points. EVs need way less maintenance across the board so if you get one thats well made it will almost certainly outlast any crisis that would cause parts to become completely unavailable. There are 15 year old Teslas out there now and batteries have improved a LOT since then alongside Tesla build quality. You could always buy a few wrecked ones to pull parts off of if you really wanted to make sure you have at least one spare of everything. Electrons are simply much easier to make than any alternative fuel as well, even if you use a diesel powered charger it will still use less fuel per mile. Solar+batteries would be ideal but you could use literally anything, even a steam turbine powered by plastic trash burning in the boiler. There won't be a total collapse, it won't be Fallout. Things will return to normal like Russia in the 2000s did.

Don't even get me started on teacher training programs. Every time I had a student teacher, I taught them things that were exactly at odds with what their program taught them. I'd always let the student teacher know this up front so 1) they didn't completey fall on their face while also destroying my students' learning and 2) so I didn't have to deal with the shitty attitude of a young person who's been told they know better than me. And yet the university would come begging to me every year to take a student teacher even though they are completely against everything I stand for. "Oh you're so welcoming and flexible!" Yeah, that's because I help the student teacher lie to you about what's going on in here.

So here you have a case of someone who is successful at her job training someone on how to do the job, but the university actually gets in the fucking way of it. Do my student teachers come already knowing about content appropriate instructional methods? Hell no! It's all social work lite and a dose of pseudoscientific brain science. It's maddening.

So spot on, and just a little comment on this aspect: even if we could fire bad teachers and reward good ones, the definition of what's good and bad is absolutely retarded. Teachers with no work/life balance or boundaries are always rewarded. Teachers who use the corpo curriculum are rewarded. Teachers who inflate grades are rewarded. Teachers who suck district dick are rewarded.

Honestly, the only thing that your missing is the trend of making those "elective" DEI classes mandatory. Yes, learning about the culture of the local injuns and Mexicans might be interesting for some; but it just feels like a complete waste of time and money if you're majoring into a completely different field.

It's all fun and games until something breaks. An older diesel (and even most current ones) can be repaired by a mechanic and can possibly even have most of it's components repaired or made in a local machine shop in a way that gets the vehicle on the road and moving again. but the electric care are almost all cheap Chinese crap completely reliant on circuitry to run things because any power mismanagement will cause the cells to overheat and catch fire.

Though I think the crux of the problem is you're viewing any potential crisis as being six months to a year tops while i'm seeing it as being one or more decades. Over that time frame a LOT of stuff will eventually break down and replacement parts will be hard to find unless they are simple enough to be manufactured by whatever equipment is on hand. The skillsets to do regular maintenance will be there as long as there is equipment and ways to find substitutes. No sealed system will last forever.
 
Luckily I never taught at a black majority school, but I did teach where there were a lot of them. I treated it like an expedition to an uncontacted tribe, which made coping easier. It was teaching amongst entitled wealthy white liberals that broke me. Do you know what it's like having a colleague try to instruct you on inclusive 🤮 teaching practices when they don't even know any black people let alone have never taught any black kids that weren't adopted?
I learned a lot more from the colleague who used to teach in Chicago where teachers had to be escorted by law enforcement to and from their vehicles every day.
 
It will never be completely impossible to get parts for anything, it will just be really expensive. energy will be the primary limiting factor. Building your own EV would be the ideal solution since you can work on it easier and use more off the shelf parts. Converting something super popular with a huge aftermarket like a vw beetle or a 57 chevy would be expensive but that would be the best middle ground. You could stockpile spare inverters, motor controllers, bms boards and charger modules which are the universal parts that all EVs need. Everything else is made in the US by small companies so it wouldnt be as hard to fix a broken axle or something like it would be on a Tesla.

Computer chips and integrated circuit boards will be among the very first things that will become hard to find. The lack of them will be one of the defining features of the collapse. A gas and diesel engine can literally use a mechanical carburetor when it gets to that point
 
I think there is a subset of goo people that boomers are right about, definitely not the majority, but I know Goy Cattle like this, I think the problem is that a lot of the people who are “mad” or care about that stupid shit the boomers say, aren’t like that. The Goy Cattle don’t care, because they don’t think about it, it literally never enters there mind or feed, and if it does they push it out because it makes them uncomfortable. Most zoomers that are mad do care, one of the problems is that a lot of them are upper middle class, and on a downwardly mobile trajectory from where there parents/grandparents were, and especially if they work in a white collar industry, they aren’t going to be able to give you good advice, because the landscape has totally changed, and all the notions “do what make you happy” are retarded, because you will remain downwardly mobile if you do decide to open a game store or become a poet or a historian or some shit.
Being a winner in my opinion is super easy nowadays because of how many people refuse to do the work so you don't have much competition depending on where you live. You may not need to go into a super difficult/time consuming trade if you play your cards right, just don't be a retard and pay attention.

It's a genetic bottleneck and a lot of the goo people won't make it to the other side, but that's for the best. In order to have winners, you have to have losers and we need less mental illness in the gene pool.

It's really sad because I know niggers who have degraded over the years and have "given up" over the dumbest shit like not getting pussy or because they listen to youtubers that spout doomer nonsense. I've even had a couple tell me I should get on disability and be a useless retard too.

I agree to all of it but detractors would say that would plunge us into a new dark age with caste systems. Just one possible argument. I would say it's a return to form. Families would have their own business and in turn would teach their children. Husbands and wives worked together. Apprentices were taught by masters. That system worked for hundreds of years and we lost a lot of it when the industrial age came into being. I do wonder if we'll ever go back to low tech ever again. It would solve a lot of issues, competency being one of them.
 
Standards at my work have been noticeably falling the last few years. More and more Indians are definitely a part of it, but even the whites are getting lazier and just falling back to blindly following procedure without any attempt to actually fix things.

It feels as though the private sector is acting like government drones just out to cover their own bums.
