Many medieval farmers, both in Europe and Japan, did have some basic literacy (albeit in Europe it was in vernacular, which was rarely written). The availability of books was the issue, not necessarily illiteracy. In a setting where books are widely available - which presumably they are because FE is married to the concept of magic tomes - it shouldn't be unreasonable to assume that most peasants would have easy access to almanacs, scripture (one of many possible gifts in 3H) or chivalric poetry (which Ashe loves reading despite starting out as a starving thief).

I was expecting a bit more in terms of graphics, writing, and difficulty. But so far, just about everything is just set in the early game. And the character design is slightly worse than the series' norm. But it's not as bad as Fates or Engage.
The colour contrast between ashen skin and regular looking hair with sharp blue eyes is honestly more offputting than the lazy eye. If they were cohesive, I'd call it a decent Dark Mage design.But for the sake of convenience, I'll just call him Igor.
I think the brazilian miku character just being brazilian miku and being named miku is far funnier... We've gone from medieval stories about comradery and despair, literally based on European myth and things like the Nibelungenlied and the Poetic Eddas... to injecting irl meme characters into the games.
