Double posting: I’m following up the other day’s Dirty Harry with its sequel, Magnum Force. It’s definitely a lot more… committee-tested than the first. It has occasional flashes of being downright cartoonish. If I were watching it a decade ago, I would have picked up the social commentary as intended, but these days it’s hard to not take said social commentary’s inclusion in the modern, cynical way. The movie is literally about the silent generation not understanding the boomers. It’s weird to say, but Harry is not a two-dimensional character, but a lot of it is subtle; but Magnum Force Harry seems two-dimensional in comparison.
A modern day Dirty Harry, translating Harry’s old-school cowboy methods being contrasted with the then-modern style of policing to compare the two-dimensional ripoffs of Dirty Harry to today, would be great. There’s no way they could ever make a modern Dirty Harry.

No new torrents? Nothing queued up? Guess I'm defaulting to fuckin' Hallmark again.
Some of these aren't that bad. The good ones are the ones that don't do the lazy "rich city cunt moves to a small town and falls in love with a guy who owns one hammer". And it's funny watching actors you like slumming it in Hallmark between real jobs.
Brandon Routh is a firefighter in The Nine Lives of Christmas. A stray cat shows up, and you know the bit: "I hate cats" and then bang, the thing's got its own chair, its own bowl...
He falls in love with this med student who's studying to be a vet. He dumps his rich bitch girlfriend who hates the cat.
Brandon Routh... His career is preposterous. Superman to Hallmark cat movie. But then you see him in interviews and he's bafflingly boring. (But remember, De Niro's the same way.)
My only advice is stay away from the follow up. Nine Kittens of Christmas. The actress who plays the vet girl, Marilee, has that same bone structure as Paula Cale or Lauren Graham...you know what I mean? Always looks cross-eyed with incandescent rage. Hard to root for somebody like that. They break up off-screen because he wasn't ready for commitment or some bullshit, and then she turns into this angry fuckin' spaz in the sequel.

Downloaded all seasons of My Name is Earl a couple of days ago and having a blast, haven't watched it since its original airing. Best written comedy show of its time, no doubt. Also watching the TV drama adaption of GTO/Great Teacher Onizuka from 1998 and once again i can only say that the 90s should've never ended.
Been planning to do this for more than 20 years. Same as you, i am a 90s kid but the show passed me by completely despite airing on my countrie's programming and being kind of a big deal from what i can remember.
Caught episodes of this way back when, did not like it all, looked like these other goofy and low budget late night 90s shows, like the Mortal Kombat one. Rewatched Luc Besson's Nikita not too long ago and enjoyed it. I do not like the US remake but i like the loose Hong Kong adaption of it, Black Cat, more than the original itself.

Lacey Chabert is in every Hallmark Christmas movie, she’s their Pedro Pascal. At this point it's only a matter of time before she wanders into the wrong tree farm.

I got into GTO through the anime then the comics, so when I got to the (then only) drama I was kinda "eh, I see why this clicked but..." Like him not suplexing the dude kinda bugged me.
Poison is a thousand percent certified banger, though
Wife and I caught a few clips of the more recent drama, really eerie at a lot of the kids looking on point

Is the most recent one the Prime show? The one that adapts the GTO prequel? I grabbed that one by mistake before getting the 1998 GTO torrent, watched the first episode and thought it was okayish.
I also thought the casting decisions in the 1998 show are great. One of its strongest points, really.

Watching Blackadder II.
One of the greatest sitcoms of all time. A favorite of mine since seeing it on PBS as a kid.
Bells is a really great episode and a huge step up from season 1.

I'm not "watching" them, but I have been getting into old time radio dramas and comedies. Jack Benny's hilarious, I Was Communist for the FBI is surprisingly tense spy stuff, Superman relies a little too much on the narrator to be truly effective. The Internet Archive is a treasure trove for this stuff--they've even got Hitchhiker's Guide, Star Wars, and the 70s Fantastic Four with Bill Murray as the Human Torch.

I've been rewatching X-Files again and it's kind of sad that the main story arc went nowhere because Cigarette Smoking Man was such a cool character; the monster of the week episodes are still always a fun time. The revival was a mixed bag but mostly a mess that fumbled another chance at a proper conclusion. I'm not too optimistic about the new series and not because of the usual talking points but because the original series was lightning in a bottle. Even if I'm open minded, I don't think any other show could match the chemistry of Mulder and Scully. Also, man, we could use another paranormal investigation show.
I've also periodically rewatch Arrested Development.

The Simpsons was the reason I decided to watch the show because it was such a wtf episode that I wanted to know what it was referencing. Probably has one of the best opening themes ever. I like how Rover being a big balloon was a happy accident because their original plan was a robot shaped like a foot stool but it kept breaking and then one day they saw a weather balloon.

Watched "A man for all seasons" on YouTube. Released in 1966, involves Cromwell, the king, and some guy named Thomas More. Its about a marriage and politics behind it, ending in betrayal.

I liked that, the lizardman and the Skinner flashback episode, the last one felt like a proper conspiracy episode and it made me believe they did had some fire left. The AI episode was fun too but it felt like it belonged in Black Mirror.

The Thomas More saga has been rendered in film plenty of times, most notably The Tudors and Wolf Hall. Even Shakespeare struggled to write anything compelling about Henry, that bloated dickhead. Here lies Henry, he really wanted to clap his dead wife's sister's cheeks.
Here is that opening scene with Orson Welles as Cardinal Wolsey. His makeup is on point as usual, and he knows where all the bodies are buried.
Very funny how More gets betrayed in exchange for a timeshare in...
No offense to the Welsh but come on. What a stupid dick-measuring contest over some rainy shithole.
