It would be quite embarrassing for the US negotiators if they gave Iran the economic relief they want, while failing to get any concessions from Iran. The agreement to delay nuclear talks while still giving Iran the MoU benefits was a big screw-up by the US. If Iran were truly destroyed and backed into a corner, cowering in fear at the US might, then Iran would've been forced to discuss the nuclear issue immediately. But that's not what happened because that wasn't the political reality. That was just the migger fantasy.

There is no appetite in the administration for a protraction of the conflict this close to midterms and it's already creating friction between admin/congress. Also the closer we get to midterms, the more popular it will be to distance yourself from the admin. The train kinda stops here, as far as I care. This has absolutely been the case for every "ceasefire" between Israel and Hezbollah for months. In the MoU case, Israel didn't even agree to the deal in the first place. I don't know if that's because the US went ahead without Israel first agreeing or if Israel refused to have any part in the MoU. Either way, it was pretty dumb for the US to agree that it and its allies won't conduct military operations against Iran and Hezbollah, while not having a way to enforce it. The US just left Iran a (semi?) valid excuse not to implement the MoU since it can always point to Israel's attacks as breaking the agreement. There can be an argument that both Hezbollah and Israel need to cease operations, but one side has to stop first, or the fighting won't end. The same was true for Iran and the US reaching an agreement a couple of weeks ago: if Iran wasn't going to make concessions but the US wanted the war to end, then it would have to be the US that conceded. That's exactly what happened. Now, if the US wants the fighting to stop, then it would have to compel Israel to stop, and then Hezbollah will/should stop after. That's an unfavorable position for the US to put itself into.
