FRISCO, Texas — Karmelo Anthony, the teen accused of fatally stabbing another teen, Austin Metcalf, at a Frisco track meet, has been indicted on a murder charge, officials said.

A grand jury indicted Anthony on Tuesday, according to the Collin County District Attorney's Office. A murder charge is punishable by 5-99 years or life in prison.

Anthony, a 17-year-old former student of Frisco Centennial High School, was arrested and charged with murder in the fatal stabbing of Frisco Memorial High School student athlete Austin Metcalf in April at a track meet in Frisco ISD's Kuykendall Stadium. He was released from jail later that month after his bond was reduced from $1 million to $250,000.

Anthony has claimed self defense in the case, which garnered national attention, heightening racial tensions and raising security concerns among everyone connected to the case, including both families and Judge Angela Tucker, who is presiding over the case.

"We know this case has struck a deep nerve — here in Collin County and beyond," Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis said in a statement Tuesday. "That’s understandable. When something like this happens at a school event, it shakes people to the core. But the justice system works best when it moves with steadiness and with principle. That’s what we’re committed to. And that’s exactly what this case deserves."

Anthony's attorney, Mike Howard, called Tuesday's indictment "an expected and routine step in the legal process."

"Karmelo and his family are confident in the justice system and the people of Collin County to be fair and impartial," Howard said. "Of course, Karmelo looks forward to his day in court. It's only in a trial that a jury will hear the full story, one that includes critical facts and context that the grand jury simply didn't get to hear."

Howard again raised Anthony's self defense claim in his statement Tuesday.

"We expect that when the full story is heard, the prosecution will not be able to rule out the reasonable doubt that Karmelo Anthony may have acted in self defense," Howard said. "Self defense is a fundamental right guaranteed every American."

Metcalf's father, Jeff Metcalf, told WFAA in a statement that he's "pleased that we are moving forward."

“With the first degree murder indictment, it now goes into the court system," Jeff Metcalf said. "I fully believe that justice will be served for Austin Metcalf. I look forward to the forthcoming trial. But it will never bring my son back.“

Under his bond conditions, Anthony is required to wear an ankle monitor and ask permission to leave his home. If Anthony violates any conditions of his bond, he will have to return to jail. He graduated and received his high school diploma in May, but did not attend the ceremony, WFAA previously reported.

Anthony allegedly confessed to the stabbing immediately after he was arrested, claiming he was defending himself from Metcalf, officials said, as WFAA previously reported.

A witness reportedly told police that Metcalf told Anthony he had to move out from under the Memorial High School tent. Anthony responded by opening his bag and reaching inside, WFAA previously reported.

"Touch me and see what happens," Anthony told Metcalf, according to a witness.

Metcalf reportedly then touched Anthony, the witness told a responding officer, and Anthony told Metcalf to punch him and see what would happen. Soon afterward, the witness said, Metcalf reportedly grabbed Anthony to tell him to move. At which point, the affidavit continues, Anthony reportedly pulled out what the witness recalled as a black knife and stabbed Metcalf once in the chest before running away.

The deep tension sparked by the incident has raised concerns that the case may be tried outside of Collin County. Collin County District Attorney Greg Willis told WFAA that the judge will make that decision at the time of trial.

Yeah, or like I said, extorted, or both. PC is full of chomos plus gang dropouts and bad cops. If he’s locked down in AdSeg as long as the guards don’t treat him like Epstein he’s as safe as you can be in there though absolutely miserable.
If he can survive a year or two, everyone will forget he was ever born. Then he can cycle into a more normal situation.

Does Texas do a “Reception & Evaluation” period for new inmates? My agency had one where new inmates were sent to one location until they could be classified and then sent to an appropriate yard to carry out their bid. Typically took 90 days.
They usually do which is why it’s so weird that he went straight from Collin County to Pack 1. Any normal inmate would have spent a month in County waiting on a week or two bus/van ride to an intake unit where he’d sit for weeks/months waiting on the bus/van to take him to his new home. This kid went from County to his new home in 24/48 hours.

Like others are saying, this kid is likely soft as fuck and is definitely national news so TDCJ is just making absolutely sure no one has a chance to get at him. My guess is he’s going to be locked down the first few years he’s in until the public forgets about him. Then maybe they’ll let him into genpop because by then no one will care when he gets hurt.

It's illuminating comparing white people who are lied to about their ancestors to blacks who know the truth about themselves currently.

White people will see pictures of a lynching and are told white men did it for no reason other than the color of their skin. "How could we do that?! Wow. That is evil."

Black people will see Cigarello murder a white for nothing other than the color of his skin. "I know das right! Shouldn't have played wit us, cracka! Keep yo hands to yoself, mm-hmm!"

Can you just call or write to any inmate in Texas prisons? I've had an app/website idea for sometime: Allow the public to easily send letters, voice memos, and do phone calls so they can easily hurl abuse at prisoners that are reviled.

I always thought it'd be funny if a certain horrible individual hasn't gotten a letter in years, then all of a sudden they get like ten letters, they get excited! And when they open the letter it's all just suicide bait

Oh nice, Smash City. The young nigga is gonna HATE that.
Yeah, and folks thought he got off easy. 23-7 lockdown, escorted out twice a week for a shower and once a day for an hour in a chain link box barely big enough to stand in with a view of the sky from the top for “rec time” and that’s IF the guards don’t “forget” to take him out. No TV, no tablet, no phone, no devices of any kind, no human contact of any kind except for when they bring chow or take him out for shower/rec. Just imagine the withdrawal he’s going through with no devices in a cell where they never turn the lights off with no human contact or any other way to distract him. Got to be Hell. His projected release date is May 27 2061 and he’s not even parole eligible until Nov 26 2043. No end in sight.

Despite the magazine bans (the easiest thing on Earth to bypass) and the three day waiting period the state is crawling with guns. Any moron can go into a Big R and pickup an AR15.

Are you saying stores are ignoring the ban?

I am stuck in Hellinois and we got a similar style "assault weapon and mag capacity" ban rammed though in the middle of the night.
The next day all the stores (Including Rural King, a Farm store much like Big R) locked up the ARs out of view and said they were only for out of state on line sales now.
If you were half way though our states 2 day waiting period ( 7 day now)when the ban passed, you were out of luck.
I have been to Big R stores in IL and they do not have any ARs or parts.

Very few counties will enforce the ban (I will see if I can find a map) . https://preview.redd.it/map-showing...bp&s=79c636626f1b896e5bd3d7f21182e61cb928a9ae

The state police say they will enforce it but if you get picked up in a county that wont enforce it , I don't know what they are going to do.
Drive you to one of the 3 counties that will enforce it and charge you there?

However no FFLs will deal in banned weapons, no out of state stores will ship ARs, mags or AR parts.
Hypothetically all we can do is cross state lines and pay cash for mags and parts.
If we could find someone willing to a face to face cash sale for a used AR built before the ban that would be an option I guess.

It really sucks watching the "Trump Slump" pricing on ARs and not being able to partake.
Also it sucks finding a deal on a pistol you want but it turns out it has a 16 round mag so you can't buy it.
The stupid melting point law was bad enough before all this latest crap.

Did you see that Ruger moved the HQ to NC?
Sadly NC is so full of New Yorkers I fear they will have to move again in 5 years.

To get back on topic, Karmelo sucks and I am glad he was convicted.
I really feared a mistrial.

In IL whatever he got sentenced to would have automatically been cut in half due to "Jail Overcrowding" & "Credit For Good Behavior".
Good Behavior means not stabbing a guard or killing a cell mate.
You can get caught with dope, start fights, Hell you can start fires, anything short of murder pretty much still counts as good behavior.
The worst thing the prison will do to you is ban you from the commissary for a week or 2.
All the diffrent gangs run their own commissaries for inmates that are banned from the real one so the "punishment " means nothing.

If he had done it in Cook County he would have been called a juvenile and probably got probation.
It is not uncommon for adult blacks to be back on the street in 7 years after a murder conviction.
2nd degree murder guilty plea gets you 14 years that magically becomes 7.
Even if he was charged as an adult somehow he would have been offered a plea deal.

Are you saying stores are ignoring the ban?

No. AR15’s and any kind of “assault” rifle are perfectly legal and on the shelves. You’ll just get a cuck magazine with them.

Even after the shit bill in CO goes into effect anyone who can get an LTC will get a sign off from their sheriffs office to purchase them. Shit as the laws are here they’re infinitely better than places like Cali, Illinois and most of the East Coast.

I don't think you can make calls, and I think letters are opened and checked before they get it, and these days they don't get physical mail, all letters are opened, scanned, and disposed of, and they can only be accessed through a tablet.

If you would like to write to Karmelo Anthony (do this at your own risk), the proper way to do it without getting RTS'd is as such:

Texas Department of Criminal Justice
Karmelo Anthony 02617665
PO Box 660400
Dallas, TX 75266-0400

I dunno why you’d want to write to this nigger though.
The idea of sending him a letter with just the word "nigger" is honestly pretty funny. He's in a box 23 hours a day according to Lorne Armstrong. He has nothing to do but stare at the wall and seethe about the "nigger" letters that flood in.

Suffah nigger.

Locked in that box long enough and I’d bet he’d enjoy hate mail as much as any other form of human contact. Also, remember that his mail is screened, then scanned, and then if he’s got a tablet he can view it digitally and if he’s doesn’t have a tablet they give him b/w printed copies. TDCJ censors mail while screening it. No nudity, no vulgarity, PG-13. The letter you describe would never reach him.
