UK British News Megathread - aka CWCissey's news thread

https://news.sky.com/story/row-over-new-greggs-vegan-sausage-rolls-heats-up-11597679 (https://archive.ph/5Ba6o)

A heated row has broken out over a move by Britain's largest bakery chain to launch a vegan sausage roll.

The pastry, which is filled with a meat substitute and encased in 96 pastry layers, is available in 950 Greggs stores across the country.

It was promised after 20,000 people signed a petition calling for the snack to be launched to accommodate plant-based diet eaters.

But the vegan sausage roll's launch has been greeted by a mixed reaction: Some consumers welcomed it, while others voiced their objections.

Cook and food poverty campaigner Jack Monroe declared she was "frantically googling to see what time my nearest opens tomorrow morning because I will be outside".

While TV writer Brydie Lee-Kennedy called herself "very pro the Greggs vegan sausage roll because anything that wrenches veganism back from the 'clean eating' wellness folk is a good thing".

One Twitter user wrote that finding vegan sausage rolls missing from a store in Corby had "ruined my morning".

Another said: "My son is allergic to dairy products which means I can't really go to Greggs when he's with me. Now I can. Thank you vegans."

TV presenter Piers Morgan led the charge of those outraged by the new roll.

"Nobody was waiting for a vegan bloody sausage, you PC-ravaged clowns," he wrote on Twitter.

Mr Morgan later complained at receiving "howling abuse from vegans", adding: "I get it, you're all hangry. I would be too if I only ate plants and gruel."

Another Twitter user said: "I really struggle to believe that 20,000 vegans are that desperate to eat in a Greggs."

"You don't paint a mustach (sic) on the Mona Lisa and you don't mess with the perfect sausage roll," one quipped.

Journalist Nooruddean Choudry suggested Greggs introduce a halal steak bake to "crank the fume levels right up to 11".

The bakery chain told concerned customers that "change is good" and that there would "always be a classic sausage roll".

It comes on the same day McDonald's launched its first vegetarian "Happy Meal", designed for children.

The new dish comes with a "veggie wrap", instead of the usual chicken or beef option.

It should be noted that Piers Morgan and Greggs share the same PR firm, so I'm thinking this is some serious faux outrage and South Park KKK gambiting here.

Oh, god. BBC and Sky News are going to be insufferable for weeks now. It’s going to just be one long migrant pity party.

How many days until the next act of cultural enrichment do you lot and all this starts again?
I haven't watched any of that shite in years, and I suggest you shouldn't either.
Every household in the UK has a parental internet filter already. It is on by default. It is also on by default for mobile internet connections.

There is literally zero reason for the OSA to exist.

Rumours of further protests across Belfast around 1pm via local page Holylands.spotted (idk how to archive an insta story)
Honestly for what I assumed was a shitty and AI generated leaflet, I'm surprised by how many small protests we had here. To say nothing of Belfast, the turnout across Scotland was surprising for such short notice. If I was in Starmer's government I would be absolutely shitting myself as we countdown to the next enrichment. What do we think, 3 weeks? 2 weeks?

Eta: after looking through the videos reposted on Irish Times, BBC. GBNews, etc, this morning, it really does look like only immigrant houses and businesses were targeted. There's some level of planning going on, those houses were known and marked. Oof
The video going around of "checkpoints for immigrants" is just some young lad assuming the men in balaclavas are checking cars for non Irish; they could just have been warning people to turn around and go the other way because they were about to burn shit.
Gonna be a long summer.

It's very telling that the nanny state isn't even saying 'we can work together with social medias'; no campaigns to re-teach parents that they can set limits, no getting companies to have 'kid friendly' versions that can be set up, no NSPCC "here's how to not get groomed online, don't ever send pictures of yourself" lectures in schools, no mass public arrests of discord groomers and roblox nonces, it's give up your ID or nothing. To protect da keeeedssssssss

Disregard the annoying copy pasted points that have been made for 20 years at this point about muh "Belgian beers" (I really like the insinuation that the average working class racist is drinking leffe and not say carling) I really fucking hate these AI infographics that have been popping up on social media lately they're really fucking ugly

The TVs are made in Korea these days. Are they saying that all Asians look the same? Fucking racists.

that copypasta sounds like something russell howard would have said 15 years ago, it's very out of date with the current political landscape

Looked up what he was doing now fucking hell

He used to have a good intro at the very least

That infographic is so out of touch.
Furniture is nowadays made in China.
The Japanese barely produce electronics anymore, same for Korea and Taiwan, most of them are made in Vietnam and China.

They also ignore that every part of the world is increasingly against immigration? Even countries like Mexico and other South American ones have immigration issues.

It sounds like one of those rich kids who live in a gated community in London demanding the others to not be bigots.
Shameless propaganda.

Yes. It is a very lazy agit-prop supposed to shame normal people for complaining that their communities are being drastically changed.
You would be very surprised how well this sort of stuff still works, normally with typical vaguely left women.
I am in a WhatsApp group and get guys who are younger Gen X posting clips of "Last Week Tonight" and HuffPo stories.

There are several completely different levels of discourse/propaganda out there.

Ahh yes those germam cars going around raping woman and Belgian beers beheader

What a sad bunch, but it does give an insight to the mind.

To them Britishness is a commercial product not the a character of a distinct group of people and how they behave as both individuals and a group.

Amusing vid of some Belfast lads sitting in the burned out bus once everyone went home.
More pics from last night, more foreign owned businesses being targeted.

Will be keeping an eye out for any arrests made + NI and Irish responses. It will be very interesting to see if organisers here 'learn' from the prods with regards to cameras, 'auditors', black skimasks, listening to men like Yaxley, etc, as much online discourse is now revolving around the image of the 200 masked men.
A gofundme that was launched to 'buy a pint' for Maitiu Mág Tighearnán, who intervened to save Stephen Ogilvie has now raised over 20,000. Maitiu has announced he will share the money with the victim (X).
A number of Belfast schools have decided to close today amidst rumours of further protests (X), but there is not a blanket closure for the whole of NI. Unverified tweet saying that offices in Belfast have closed for the day.
Loyalist-Nationalist protest will be held at Belfast city hall today, 6pm. (X) Notice the term 'pogrom' being used now;
Far right protesters are planning to hold an anti-immigration rally outside Belfast City Hall today - and are encouraging both sides of the community to attend.

The controversial gathering is due to take place after an explosion of race-hate violence in mainly unionist districts across Northern Ireland on Monday.

Trouble flared after a man in his 40s suffered serious injuries to his face, neck and back in a frenzied knife attack in north Belfast.

A 30-year-old Sudanese man has been charged with attempted murder.

The protest has been promoted on loyalist social media sites, including the Official Protestant Coalition Facebook page, which was linked to the Union flag protests.

An image promoting the protest, which is due to take place at 6pm, includes a tricolour and a Union flag, and the message “together for our future”.

Similar events in the past have been challenged by anti-racism campaigners.

SDLP leader Claire Hanna slammed Monday’s violence branding it a “racist pogrom”.

“The scenes we saw last night were absolutely heartbreaking and disgusting,” she said.

She added: “It is difficult to find the words to describe what unfolded. We saw young children burnt out of their homes, property destroyed and community infrastructure attacked.”

Ms Hanna said the trouble was “whipped up by toxic far-right elements online who light the touch paper and then sit back while communities suffer the consequences and young people ruin their lives.

“Closer to home, some politicians should reflect on their own language,” she said

“A failure to condemn these attitudes and a willingness to indulge them has contributed to what we saw last night.”

Renowned ethnonationalist schoolboy killer Gerry Adams condemns. Zack Polanski also condemns, but don't ask him if he'd condemn, say, Israeli businesses and homes being burnt down in London. (for the record; all must go)

Rachel Reeves will reimburse British firms £5,000 per foreign worker in a bid to make the country more attractive despite the UK’s growing youth unemployment crisis (X). This is just straight up hatred of the British people, given that we know the government considers 'vape shop workers' to be skilled.
Government set to subsidise ‘high-growth’ companies up to £25,000 to hire skilled workers from abroad

Rachel Reeves will reimburse British firms £5,000 per foreign worker in a bid to make the country more attractive despite the UK’s growing youth unemployment crisis.
The Government will subsidise “high-growth” British-based firms up to £25,000 in visa costs for high-skilled workers hired from abroad and their dependants under a scheme set to be announced on Wednesday.
The scheme, which will also fast-track the sponsor licence applications for international businesses, will be for specialist hires in the tech and digital, life sciences and clean energy sectors.
It comes as the country contends with an increasing number of home-grown graduates struggling to find jobs in the UK.

Critics described the plans as a “disaster” for young British graduates who “already face the worst jobs market in a generation”.
Under the proposals, a single “scale-up” business in the UK would be able to claim a maximum of £5,000 per employee, up to a limit of £25,000 per year.
It is understood that there will not be a direct limit on the number of staff that can benefit, aside from the financial restrictions.
For firms based overseas that have not yet begun trading in Britain, Labour will expedite visa applications for the UK “Expansion Worker” sponsor licence, which allows staff from overseas firms that have not yet started trading in the UK to establish operations temporarily.
The process would last around 10 days, rather than several weeks.
Last month, the Milburn review found that Britain was confronting the worst worklessness crisis in 25 years, with data revealing that the number of economically inactive young people had hit a record high.

Migration Watch UK criticised the subsidy of overseas workers’ visa fees for not prioritising British graduates.
The think tank said it “now seems the Government wants to make the backdoor into Britain even cheaper and more accessible”.
“This will be a disaster for young British workers who already face the worst jobs market in a generation.”
“It comes in addition to the so-called ‘Skilled Worker Visa’ which is already abused to import supermarket staff and takeaway drivers, amongst others – exactly the sort of entry-level work young Brits used to do.”
Callum Price, of the Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) think tank said: “The Government would be far better off making it easier for businesses to hire people, and making the UK an attractive place for high-skilled workers across the board, than spending taxpayer money on trying to pick limited winners.”
Before the 2024 general election, Labour weighed up introducing rules to prioritise British jobs for British workers.
The requirement to try to recruit British workers was in force until 2019 when Boris Johnson scrapped the regulations as part of a shake-up of the points system for skilled workers

In a joint statement with Peter Kyle, the Business Secretary, Ms Reeves said the funding would come alongside a new “concierge service” for businesses, as part of a “quest to nurture the UK’s first trillion-dollar firm”.
They wrote: “The new concierge service, offering tiered support, will accelerate the most promising scale-ups and build a strong pipeline of high-growth firms ready to break through.
“It will ensure that the current support for business is joined up and delivering targeted support to tackle issues facing promising firms in the country.”
The statement added: “We are backing the UK’s most ambitious firms to start, scale, and stay here – with the finance, talent and support they need to succeed.
“Working in partnership with industry, we are making sure Britain is the best place in the world not just to start a business, but to grow a world-leading one.”

Oh behave, we need to make it more enticing to mass-import more jeets!!!1!!one! Clearly, exempting Indians from NI for their first three years in the country to entice employers to undercut wage expectations for British applicants wasn't enough!

There's something incredibly funny about how politicians are hammering home the point that "Violence will not solve anything, we should be discussing immigration peacefully"

Discuss what? What's the point of saying you'll 'debate' something if it's going to result in "I don't think sending them back is a good idea" in the commons and then that's it, the discussion is over. Go home. You lost.

Not a single person has voted for a party that offered MORE immigration for over 30 years. Every single time people vote for a party that wants to cut immigration, they get cold feet and instead offer more immigration. This is what happens when people realise they can just bypass a 24 year inquiry that will result in the government saying "We ran the stats and Mr Aziz's data shows that migrants are good people and good for the economy".

When will we get our discussion? Because to politicians, last night's violence is the worst they can imagine because they simply can't comprehend that last night was 'muted' considering the anger.

Its crazy how often its called a stabbing. It doesn't get the full brutallity of it accross.
I'm dealing with retards telling me 'he wasn't really decapitated' because his head was still attached. People are treating it like 'you can't almost break a leg you either broke it or you didn't' situation. He took the eye out and cut the throat of a disabled man, who according to locals, helped him and a friend move into their house. If you shoot at someone and miss, you still shot at them.

For anyone dealing with similar 'what good will protesting do' retards; Adam Wren of Open Justice alleges that after the Epping protests, the Home Office struggled to find 'friendly' areas to place migrants.

The point of it is so they can then say, "Well, it has been addressed," while not actually addressing the underlying causes.

You will then have @Made In Wales and the like tell me I have to vote for Reform because Farage said something a little bit spicy on GB News and he is all going to save us. If we all have to unite against Keir Starmer, otherwise Labour will get in power again.

Programs do solve problems. It may not be the problem you specifically want solving, and it may be against one’s particular ethical framework, but they sure do get rid of a group causing problems.
As we were told repeatedly during the BLM riots, protest is the language of the unheard. If politicians will not provide a peaceful solution that actually works, and that the people want, then people may indeed turn to violence,
The solution is not ‘everyone gets along in a lovely multicultural kumbaya god loves everyone’fashion. That is not the solution people want. The solution people want is ‘these people gone.’ And whatever the morality of it, a pogrom would actually solve that problem. Torching buses and homes? It’s not nice is it? It’s illegal, and it risks harming innocent people, but it DOES something which is force action, make an area unwelcoming and stops the house being used as an HMO. So say it solves nothing or helps nothing is incorrect. What is meant is ‘I don’t like it’ and if that’s your opinion then it is, it’s a moral one in many arguments but it isn’t correct to say it does nothing,
