Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

Most of the people I pugged these months are the same, we're old fucks and Blizz is catering retail to us. This is a death sentence for any game since we are not passing the torch to a younger audience but after almost 25 years of a life service game, how many more years do you want? Imagine a TV show going on for a quarter of a century.
i played warcraft 15 years ago when i was a kid, and i still have a huge soft spot for the game, but looking back on it blizzard didn't just fail to pass the torch to a new audience they used the new audience as fuel for their core audience of gen xers. I didn't play in classic, i didn't play in BC, i started when WOTLK launched. Like, in hindsight the reason that i was so confused during my WOTLK raiding years was that i was essentially trying to be a top spot DPS raider in a game culture that pretty much had entirely abandoned raiding.

Everyone postured about it because that's what you did in the game, but when it came down to brass tacks it was all fakery that had collapsed in on itself years before. people were more concerned with the formalities of achievement score and guild membership than finishing a raid and they kept lowering the standards and raising the quality of the welfare gear so there was pretty much no incentive to engage with the game at a higher level.

the game was full of people who had been playing for years, who did 40 man raids, who did all of the bullshit grind in classic, and there was universally this jewish motte and bailey about how modern players "playing wow on easy mode" because the entire game was redesigned so that people could railroad through a 25 man raid with their girlfriends. I wasnt even old enough to play the game when most of those decisions were made but alllll of them took it out on the younger players.

How are the races performing? scroll down the stats page:
That is kind of across the board with most races though, once you get away from "Women Play elves" and the two OG Humans and Orcs the newer races hover around 2% or less (Lizzard Faggots get a massive bump from being the only Evokers who have the OP Aug spec) Hell even Worgen don't get carried by the fact they have the best utility Racial in the game (Run Speed Cooldown)

bailey about how modern players "playing wow on easy mode" because the entire game was redesigned so that people could railroad through a 25 man raid with their girlfriends.
The funniest thing is any time I go back and play classic I get bored with how easy it is, like I can't even go back to play my favorite expansions because the gameplay just feels easy or just slow. (Or completely non-functional..holy fuck how did I tolerate the Unholy/Blood/Frost Rune system)

And let me ask you, what did they get after spending hundreds of hours doing the Raid Ball (moving from the capital city to Blackrock mountain)? It really was just old men complaining that having more people in a game was worse. That you needed to prove yourself somehow when the most difficult raid mechanic in BRM was nos stacking up during Baron Geddon's dot. I would like to see how a classic raider from 2005 would have dealt with Midnight Falls or the Jailer. You can railroad through Normal, you need some coordination to do HC and you have to bring your A game to do Mythic raiding, with optimal class/race combinations. I don't see why people are complaining that wow is too easy now. The ball busting game they think they like is there, up to and including managing guild drama.
Again, these people are not complaining about the game, they are complaining about current year +14 but projecting it onto Blizzard. I still found the most chill and relaxed players doing M+ despite being told that this whole community is toxic to the point of sending death threats. We fucked up a key, we would say "mb" and "gg" and then maybe spend 15 mins talking about the old days, when killing Draenei was based and Brittney Spears was hot (or crazy hot).
The moment we oldfags retire for good, you can kill retail wow.

Scalies are the biggest drama whores. 1 month after launch I kept seeing the same, "UwU, M+ DPS were mean to me" posts. All of them from the same 1 or 2 accounts. Had one of those in our guild, the girl was a BDP drama queen that talked about getting booted and insulted in PUGS. When asked, "wow, did you report the harrasers" you were met with dead silence.

>Evoker Player
>1 month after launch
>So not Aug

You should have thrown them into a woodchipper, the only use for an Evoker is giving me Prescience and some Primary stat, if you are not augmentation and are a lizzard all your opinions are invalid.

She was banging the only resto shaman in the guild. Funnily enough, they broke up, she got severely more deranged and he rerolled into a BM hunter....BUT we got another friend out of retirement and he decided to play an aug evoker. He was into class fantasy and loved Ysera and the whole green dragonflight bit so I kept asking him why he didn't play preservation.
He called me a faggot despite having sugar in his tank.
That's 99% of the reason why I still play every now and then. To call my guildies niggers, trannies and faggots and then have a laugh as we wipe for the 20th time in a row.
I remember back in SL, playing a holy paladin was a fucking pain. I rerolled into engineering just to have a CR available. Season 1 was like pulling teeth: dungeons with aoe mechanics and my only recourse was WOG and Divine Toll. Anyone who told me "why not go Venthyr" gets the same response - I pugged, I needed panic buttons/heals.

Season 1 Shadowlands sucked cock.

Nathria was a terrible raid with a junk endboss and the seasonal affix was ASSSSSSS (every other Shadowlands season was kino though, fucking Anima powers in M+ was fun as shit)

Edit : Also I am sorry you were Paladin in Shadowlands, they got shit on hard with the Covenant abilities, the Venthyr one was the only cool one, Divine Toll was powerful but only because the Talents involved with Holy Shock were OP.

Thanks man, but Blizzard more than made up for it with Season 2 of dragonflight. 4 CD's for the paladin, I was ripping and tearing through +25's in 2023. Season 1 in SL had the sinwalker mount which I loved. The only cool thing from that wretched season.

....but I guess I could just buy now from the mount store.

Skyrim just lets you create your own Frankenstein playstyle as opposed to creating a class for you, which has its own advantages and disadvantages.
I mean Skyrim, compared on earlier TES, there isn't a dedicate magic button.
With mods, it's better. I got a modlist days ago with classes and traits; races only have passives (like in Arena/Daggerfall), and classes with starting skills and passives.

Everyone right now has been making a big deal about what ZSNES is doing. I've watched the video that Modern Vintage Gamer made a month ago. I'm simply am just...not impressed. Why are we now having to fret about dragging GPU power into retro games that have been doing just fine as they are for all of this time?

I thought the point of emulation was simply getting old games we thought we'd never play again, to play again. Not just figure ways to enhance them. So what if something from a game pops a little more? You mind as well remake the whole thing.
That’s the thing, simply “playing old SNES games” is already a solved problem. I like that they’re trying to do something different and push old games to their limits instead of making a worse version of something that already exists. I don’t think it’s there just yet, but it shows potential.

Well, at least with WOTLK, there was still this idea that old game content influenced new content. There were still BC recipes and content that i went back and did to get a little extra edge over players. There was a fair amount of Vanilla content that did the same thing, like Thistle Tea. The old guard elite players had cool mounts, and cool gear to show off before and during raids (transmog was a brilliant idea, tbh) and actually had a little bit of an edge over you because they had game knowledge, but largely the game was balanced enough that i could catch up to them. But i was a fucking nerd, dude, most people playing the game were normies and they had to streamline it. But they streamlined it by pulling out the ladder under them and moving it up instead of just building another ladder, so everyone was obsessed about new content instead of spread all across the world of warcraft

honestly i saw this when cataclysm was announced, but it probably took years for most of the community to realize the game is never and was never going in a direction they ever wanted it to despite what blizzard says. I think a lot of them were people who started playing after i did, who got into it because they remembered hearing about it when they were younger.

How much of this was Blizzard and how much of that is the community being "I got my gear, i dont need nothing so fuck new people"

how does the chicken/egg dilema play out when the chicken refuses to admit it can lay eggs?

world of warcraft is an MMO designed to make sure that even the most mouth breathing retards have a clear path to end game content. but some portion of the playerbase, a significant plurality, really has no intention of ever getting to the end game or engaging with it, they're busy playing the game. When they released the first expansion pack they wanted people to, like, buy the expansion, so they made new skills and races and removed class restrictions because that would be enough to entice those people to buy it. But by the time WOTLK rolls around they do another wave of obsoleting the previous content, but this time the new expansion really incentivizes people to level much faster. The only new class made it easy for casual players to make alts, skipping the entirety of the vanilla zones, on top of the xp requirements falling so low that the old, cool end-game zones became wastelands because they weren't necessary anymore.

You know how runescape basically never obsoletes content? not to say that anybody expected WoW to be anything like runescape but they pretty much just kept moving further and further away from world design that appealed to a certain type of player until only a very specific kind of person was left. This was by design.

While women on paper play games they only play like five games (League of Legends, Valorant, The Sims 4, Stardew Valley and Candy Crush), they sure as hell don't play AAA narrative games
They play shitloads of mobile and browser games.

So if you want your game to appeal to women female charachters need to be ugly, otherwise they will have a visceral reaction to seeing them and will not buy your game.
This could not be more false. On my phone, so let's stop by Google Play and see what women and girls are buying. Two broad categories jump out.

Cute animals:

Anyone who listens to women say don't like "being sexualized" is marvelously, stunningly retarded. Women SAY this because they're SUPPOSED to. Then they turn right around and spend $300 at Sephora to paint their faces pretty and take an hour trying on tops to find the one that makes their boobs look the nicest.

The reason games have ugly broads in them is that game studios are run by weird nerds who dry out every vagina in a 200m radius just by existing. Making women in games ugly is a form if fedora-tipping and inviting Stacy to an advance screening of The Phantom Menace.

Women do not want to play your nerd game with you because it's gay nerd shit. Adding an ugly bitch protagonist won't change that and won't make women impressed by how much you respect them. If you want to sell video games to women, make a game about being an up and coming model who has to balance her glamorous career with running a puppy rescue shelter so that she can make time for all the hot guys who want to flirt with her.

Reminds me of one DnD story of how adult female players tend to make their OCs into the most sultriest sluts in fantasy, with accurate details of their beauty and good looks.

Not even. The weird nerds who went to advance screenings of the Phantom Menace probably jacked off to Princess Leia in a metal bikini. They are openly the kind of smelly, disgusting nerds that girls wouldn't be caught dead with, especially in the 90s.

The fedora-tipping usually comes from academic male feminists who are trying to get feminist women to lay with them. The smelly nerds have long since given up on having real women in their beds and just jack off to hentai or western comic books with females drawn like supermodels.

Hell, you can just stuff your game with cutesy animals. Giving the female gamers an attractive female avatar is optional; the cute animals will be enough to draw them in.
