Unpopular Opinions about Video Games

I feel everybody's expectations with video games is that they want them to have everything, then the original concept does not gel well with those additions.

Example: if GTA 6 would cater to the roleplaying community, then they'd want all these pointless gimmicks like trading or car degradation. It's not meant to be a life simulator. Or how Call of Duty introduced loot and extraction mechanics into Zombies as of late. You're overcomplicating something just to "cater" to a wider demographic that would just move on to something else.

The best part about emulating some consoles is the whole "OK, you need X File and need to put it in X directory. No we will not give you the files they are easy enough to find" and then they are not easy to find. I remember doing Flycast and needing a bunch of files, internet searches didn't help but I found the dreamcast and atomiswave in a whole bios package I downloaded prior for retroarch

I know I've asked this several times, but I cannot grasp how modern gaming is unable (or even unwilling) to have attractive female figures in their games. It's not even a point to have raw sex appeal in games like porn, rather a basic want to have your characters be appealing for the audience. It's almost like they WANT females to be ugly. But WHY? What is the end goal?

Everyone right now has been making a big deal about what ZSNES is doing. I've watched the video that Modern Vintage Gamer made a month ago. I'm simply am just...not impressed. Why are we now having to fret about dragging GPU power into retro games that have been doing just fine as they are for all of this time?

I thought the point of emulation was simply getting old games we thought we'd never play again, to play again. Not just figure ways to enhance them. So what if something from a game pops a little more? You mind as well remake the whole thing.

Also as thread tax - I feel like all those RP communities are what kept GTAO going strong for all these years more than anything else, especially after PC port and its abhorrent cheaters and hackers in the normal lobbies.

Two reasons. First is Metahuman. It's a tool by Epic Games that was initially made for UE. It can import models but also comes with pre-mades and a roided out Bethesda-like character editor. The problem is that it works just like a bethesda character creator, it interpolates between two different extreme models models using sliders. I played around with it and the extremes are less extreme that in oblivion, despite this being profesional creative software and not a video game from 2006. Here's some screenshots form the official documentation, you'll have to trust me that the other options aren't much better.

Specifically for the body you pick three body types to blend between. Without importing your own mesh that's all you can do.

Second is that they really want women to buy games to make more money. While women on paper play games they only play like five games (League of Legends, Valorant, The Sims 4, Stardew Valley and Candy Crush), they sure as hell don't play AAA narrative games. If you've ever talked to a member of the fairer sex about other women you'll know that they really don't like girls that are prettier than they are. So if you want your game to appeal to women female charachters need to be ugly, otherwise they will have a visceral reaction to seeing them and will not buy your game.

This is a blessing in disguise. When you see a fucking ugly cunt, you know you're just wasting your money on slop and don't have to do more research.

Moneypenny is a mutt in 007 and acts like a bitch to James the whole game, The game is a shitty Uncharted clone with ass writing and ok shooting/fighting so it checks out as slop made from a corporate machine.

They will run out of money eventually or competition will show up and force them to change. I noticed (Chinese and full of attractive women) Marvel Rivals didn't have a pride month event last year like (US) Overwatch did, This Year Overwatch skipped out on the pride month event, it's a mystery.

Thank you! I've always know that it was mostly about cost cutting. If you have a project and you need time to develop models from the ground up, that's time and money that could be spend elsewhere (like coke and hookers for the investors). If they had modeled Ana de Arms back in the day, I'm pretty sure we would all be aving Latina fatigue in 2026. I know that some people latched on to it for empowerment/go woke-gobroke narratives but those are bottom feeders; development costs will always be the root cause of product enshittification.

My take: Retail World of Warcraft in 2026 is a perfectly good MMO experience (gay centaurs aside).

I just came back from hitting 3400 RIO and I actually liked the mythic + season. Key resilience made is so I wasn't too afraid of bricking my key or other's. Talking to people about dungeon mechanics helped filter the retards from the group. Vote to abandon helped with smooth transitions from one broken key to a succesful one. The gearing method introduced in DF Season 2 is still the smartest way to tackle gear progression and not feel mazed (running the same fucking dungeon over and over in hopes of a trinket a la BFA and SL). And in the end, gearing matters less compared to mechanics. Big numbers can only take you so far, interrupts, hard CC, weaving pulls (not chain pulling) and knowing the dungeon beats having a 290 ilvl score.
Finally, I'm fucking old, I don't have time to do the grind from scratch when a new season drops - normal; heroic, mythic. You gear up and with enough can do attitude you can start doing the fun parts of the PVE. I realized that the "classic experience" or "the hardcore gamer experience" is just time wasting for the sake of wasting it. My gaming time starts around 10.30 PM after the kids are in bed, my meals are prepped and the kitchen is clean. I'm not playing a game that deliberatly kills my precious free time for "muh immersion".

I didn't mention the story at all because, eh, it's millenial writing 101. There is not 1 but 2 entire quest zones that act as a therapy session mandatory to progress. We need to get that 40 year old boy on a discovery journey (while he is a high ranking general currently at war with devils from a shadow dimension) so he doesn't feel sad.

I've made my peace with lore being shit because it's 2026. I haven't played a single game past 2015 (witcher 3 being the last) because I know what I'm buying and I just don't want to. So as long as I'm not paying attention to the story, I'm ok with it.

Finally, why I made this post? Because Yt recommended me a video that I can only describe as Peak Contrarianism:

To anyone who doesn't want to waste time; tldr - WoW started going to shit in The Burning Crusade and his arguments are: "things got way too convenient with mounts, and more areas and teleport stones"

It just hit me that every single one of these motherfuckers is the same. They are raging against retail blizzard and classic+ and remix and whatnot, not because they hate the game or want the game to be harder, but because they deeply want to go back to 2006. They want the whole world to reset to 2006 so even if you give them exactly what they want (classic) they will not take it at face value because the world has moved on. Most of the people I pugged these months are the same, we're old fucks and Blizz is catering retail to us. This is a death sentence for any game since we are not passing the torch to a younger audience but after almost 25 years of a life service game, how many more years do you want? Imagine a TV show going on for a quarter of a century.

As the saying goes, "No king rules forever". So when retail wow goes, it goes. RIP.

Miriam Godwinson is the best leader to live under on Planet and I’m tired of pretending she isn’t.

This isn't the case. Women are drawn to more sexualized/beautiful characters but when asked they say they don't like the designs that they then choose to play. They've actually done studies on this.

The change is ideologically driven from feminist theories on "the male gaze". This is pushed especially by consulting firms like Sweet Baby that act as sort of "sensitivity readers" like they have in book publishing to make sure nothing problematic gets through.

This is what I actually call the practice of post-feminism, which just boils down to female prerogative. Women looking at men in a sexual way is good because female sexuality is good, men looking at woman in a sexual way is bad because men shouldn't be choosing women based on sexiness anyway, etc.

The Chinese hate gay people. They're not like the Southeast Asians who have a tolerance for gays and trannies. So no shit, a game made and maintained by the Chinese will have no interest in Pride events.

Snow White is very accurate to how women feel about younger, prettier members of their own sex. The Queen wanting Snow White dead because she is younger and prettier is the same reaction feminists have to men ogling hot female video game characters.

How did that joke go: "What's a mysoginist? A man who hates women almost as much as women hate other women". Do you know when the female player count jumped in world of warcraft? When blood elves were introduced in '06. Have a sample of some of the recent (since 2018) races added
