the wife's been enjoying Spider-Noir
I've seen a bit, seems like fun enough if you want Nicholas Cage as Alcoholic 1930s Spider-Man
def is a lot of Nicholas Cage doing Nicholas Cage things

that no matter how shit the movie may be, he'll still give it 120% because he's crazy/in comical amounts of debt?
But the problem is that he doesn't give it his all in a lot of things he's in.
There are dozens of movies where he barely gives a fraction of a fuck and he delivers his lines like he doesn't want to be there.
I don't know where this myth came from that he always delivers an entertaining performance.

The first two episodes were good. It's nice to watch something Spider-Man related from Sony in live-action that doesn't suck complete ass.

it didn't make me say "holy shit I need to watch this" but I sincerely chuckled at a few of the jokes and didn't mind it being on

Leaked still from Avengers: Doomsday

Disney has always been fucked up over the fact that the only superhero they have that the masses would actually cheer for and scream the name of is Frank the Tank.

He’s such a primal joy, Deathwish Charles Bronson in the body of Sylvester Stallone with the coolest symbol ever and a million guns with a billion shitheads to kill before he goes down.

That’s why Daredevil S2 fails, because Bernthal Punisher as the “villain” was right and way too much fun. Outside the shitholes of L.A and New York, the Punisher is one of the most primal fantasies known to man.

Find bastards hurting people and hurt them back.

I knew it was coming out because I'd seen the trailers pop up on my feed, but I didn't watch them so I wasn't aware it was out so soon. And since it was on Prime and not Disney+, I figured hey, why not?

Overall, I rather enjoyed it, which surprised me seeing as how I've had basically zero interest in capeshit and Sony's track record has been...let's be generous and call it "spotty." Obviously I watched it in black-and-white; apparently it was originally only going to be released that way, but Nic Cage himself advocated for a color version to be produced as well so as not to turn away the youth, with the hope that they might also check out the black-and-white version too. I can't compare the two, but black-and-white just feels the way to go, and it looked rather good, lot of fun cinematography and visuals.

But I liked that it both took the concept seriously enough to not feel embarrassed about it, while simultaneously knowing when to add levity, restraint that has been sorely lacking in anything Marvel-related for a while. Also a more mature story than I was expecting, but I guess if you're going the noir route, that's what you'd want. The hardboiled detective, the femme fatale, gangsters, betrayal, violence, drinking, smoking, all that good stuff. I got a lot of BioShock feelings out of it too, especially when related to the whole superpower thing.

All the performances are good, but Nic Cage definitely carries the show in a good way. You get the full range of Cage: grounded and serious to goofy and ridiculous, not to mention some good physical comedy and silly impressions (which make sense in context). His character is struggling with past demons that made him give up being a costumed hero, and a lot of the show is him wrestling with that decision and finding a way out of the hole he's in as he finds himself mixed up in a much bigger story.

All in all, a pretty entertaining time, and I'd say it's worth a watch. I dunno if they're planning on doing any more after this, but I definitely wouldn't mind another season if they do. And believe me, I'm still kind of shocked to admit that.

This is a personal pet peeve but when Spider-Noir moves, it's just clearly not Cage, it's either CG or a lesser actor.
Cage in all of his movies, especially those he gives a fuck about, has a particular way of walking and moving around, it's part of his acting skills.
Whoever they got to be in the S-N suit just isn't good enough and it took me out of the show.
Cage also seems to be phoning in his VA performance. When he's on screen, he's good but when he's just doing the voice, he's kind of shit.

Spider-Noir was a fun time, I'd watch a second season if they get round to it.

That's something they could work on for next time. I knew right away it was someone else just due to Cage being in his sixties.
