Broke my heart reading somewhere that Timothy Omundson(Lassiter) had a stroke.

They worked it into the show, it was nice (the gesture, not the stroke). Still waiting on the next movie.

Yeah, I missed him in the first movie but I teared up when he walked in the second movie.

He was also great in the ABC series Galavant.

I do, its a great show from a great era. Monk is another great show. Never got into Psych though, I tried a few episodes as people would say "if you love monk, you will love this show" and it didnt stick at all.

I think all these shows are kinda generic, and what carries them are the leads. If you like them, they are amazing. Burn Notice is great, and I love how they give Gabriel the old lady haze treatment, when she is a hot package anyway, and didnt need it. Makes her seem much older than she really is.

Burn Notice was good but aside from their runs coinciding I don't see it as a competitor with Psych. What was a competitor to Pysch is the Mentalist because it was basically a less fun ripoff.

I always bounced off of Monk for some reason. Loved Psych, Burn Notice and White Collar (At least the first season, schedule made it hard to catch after that, Had the same issue with Suits.)

And The Mentalist is absolutely a ripoff.

I like both shows, although Mentalist was pretty fun until after Red John was uncovered.

In terms of the gimmick detective shows of the 2000s, I thought Medium was always the weakest of the bunch.

I did not care for the show. But I also have a burning hatred for Patricia Harquette. I want to punch her in the face every time she talks. It's not just the characters she plays, it's just her demeanor and the frequency of her voice. I just can't stand her.

I have no idea. I am not from the US so always really late on everything.

What I remember I hated about Medium was all the bullshit around the story. Like half of the episodes were about her husband and kids. I can't stand this.

This is one of my favorite shows ever.

The cast had a pretty good dynamic and Shawn Spencer did kind of mature as a character, he came off like a jerk early on because he was always dragging Guster into shit, but as you see the other side of Guster's life you kind of understand why. Burton was working a soul crushing office job that would have absolutely gone nowhere fast.

Shawn and Gus T.T. Showbiz are one of my favorite fictional friendships. The first season was rough but that's how shows used to be.

Spoiler: going on a big autistic tangent

That is the case, because all of them share very similar structures and even episode setups(for example the "someone from the main cast gets caught up in a hostage situation while in the middle of a separate job" or "someone from the main cast is in quarantine" episodes that you can find in Burn Notice, Psych, Leverage, Human Target, I'm sure there were a few of that description in Bones, The Mentalist and NCIS if I bothered watching them).

I still find them pretty good but my issue with the more modern interpretation of that series type(something like Prodigal Son for example) is that they have to have their jabs at the police and God help you if there's a black supporting character somewhere because they will get racially profiled and will eat up as much screentime in boring preachy bullshit as much as possible.

Maybe this is personal preference too but I find that outside of Reacher having an autistic roidmaxxer as the lead(and prodigal son but that's dead), none of the super genius consultant who needs to be tardwrangled by the police shows have particularly interesting leads or characters to begin with. Going off the memory of the two I can actually recall watching, Elsbeth felt like it was trying too hard to be sunshine and rainbows in spite of the subject material(to be fair the main lead does it really well but it's simply not my kind of thing) and Tracker was only really good for the scenic nature shots.

The missus had me binge watch it with her when we first started dating. We took turns binging shows that the other liked so I got her hooked on Farscape and she got me really into Psych. Enjoyed the hell out of it and the food truck episode where they keep doing the 'Is that my daughter in there?!' scene from Mystic River lives rent-free in my head.

What I remember I hated about Medium was all the bullshit around the story. Like half of the episodes were about her husband and kids. I can't stand this.

Best part was when they pulled a Wonder Woman 1984 and her husband died but was resurrected in some Chad's body. She could see him as her husband but everyone else just saw some stranger, and they just went on and lived like that. I can only imagine what the neighbors thought when one day the husband was missing and some new guy was immediately banging her.


The 'Characters Welcome' era was one of those times where we didn't know how good we had it until it's gone. Not even on USA but other channels too. NBC had 'Life' with Damien Lewis playing a Zen detective who used the power of mindfulness to solve crimes. also Law & Order Criminal Intent with Detective Goren and his library card. At the time all these shows kind of blended together and it was like "Oh another Sherlock knockoff," but now we can look back and see they all had different ways of using their detecting powers, like Shawn Spencer's dad having trained him to pick out patterns despite being kind of dumb, or Goren having his library card. Today the special detective is just a Chosen One who magically has the ability to do things, and the writers aren't smart enough to show them working through the evidence so they use autistic magic to instantly know what happened, like that god awful Sherlock BBC show where stuff just swirls around his head like that guy from The Hangover. Even the Guy Ritchie Sherlock succumbed to that nonsense with Sherlock saying his ability to detect was a curse. No, you gay bitch, it's something you trained because you wanted to be the greatest detective, but modern Sherlock is too smart for screenwriters so let's just give him super autism.
