Worst television episodes of all time? - sitcoms/dramas/miniseries/you name it!

The IHOP thing was for the movie Man of Steel, not Smallville, and movie tie-ins go back to at least Star Trek: The Motion Picture being the first Happy Meal movie tie-in in the 1970s.

A DISSERTATION ON THE HISTORY OF PRODUCT PLACEMENT FROM "E.T."-PRESENT by @Samuel Fuller

Billions S7.E8
The B plot is one of the minor characters develops a scat fetish then once the psychological reasons for this attraction are explained to him he becomes turned off by it. I can't think of any other dramas that fell of harder than this show after s5 ended.

LOST was right on the cusp between Old TV (25 episodes a season, broadcast showing it one night a week, each episode has its own plot) and New TV (10 episodes, streaming service, one very long movie).

It mostly threaded that needle, like the flashbacks allowed them to be creative and stupid/fun and to fill a lot of time, but there were a few real turkeys.

Razzle Dazzle!
its not that every filler episode was even bad too i really like the one where they fix that van

some episodes of lost are up there with the best of tv like "walkabout" or "the constant" a lot of it is pretty mediocre and some of it is pretty bad

roughly id put it at like
20% is amazing
30% is good
40% is mediocre
10% is bad

Commercial tie-ins go back a long, long, long ways. I think literal fuckin' gladiators sold merch.

Breaking it down like that is not that great for LOST because the lamest flashback for one person could have driven a/the plot in two other areas.

For the percents you posited, what are the metrics for any "great" show?

New School shit like "True Detective" has to be solid all the ways, there's no space to phone it in, but if you watched every episode of X-Files, 20% amazing sounds high but it's still a great show.

yeah completely fair lost is certainly a uniquely structured show

if most of the show is entertaining to watch and it has a good ending id say its a great show

lost is certainly entertaining but its ending while i dont find it to be awful certainly isnt the best

lost is definitely a good show though

I think Taylor should be louder, angrier, and have access to a time machine

The beer episode of Buffy. (I recall Tiny Toon Adventures had one too)
Buffy's a Slayer, she could drink a keg of Coors, so they had to make this magic beer that doesn't even get her drunk, it just turns her into the cavewoman from Chrono Trigger. "Ugh ugh beer make pussy wet."

It was almost a spoof of those TGIF "Just Say No" episodes. But they played it straight for the grant money. Beer makes you regress to monkey times!

People think the worst episode of TNG is either Sub Rosa or Shades of Gray. But at least Sub Rosa was an experimental episode and Shades was the product of a writers' strike.

The truly worst episode is Force of Nature, when they all of a sudden discover that warp travel is bad for the environment. ST can be preachy, but this one only missed Picard looking at the camera to say: "children, climate change is bad, how dare you?!"

The plot was that the bartender was fed up with snobbish college students who thought themselves better than others due to their education, so he served them all magical beer that regressed them.

On that note, any time a show has a very special episode about guns. Bonus points if the average day-to-day mechanics of the universe in the show involve things a thousand times more dangerous than guns. Looking at you, Static Shock and Gargoyles.

I could totally crush this barehanded if I wanted to.jpg

All PSA episodes tend to be bad, specially those involving drugs.

There is a Mexican novela for kids called Carrusel, based on an Argentina tv show about, a teacher and her students ("Señorita Maestra", if you're curious, also based on a book) and it's quite wholesome in general because it's about lessons on being loyal, friendship, family, etc.

So, they had their "drugs are bad!" episode (which didn't exist in the original Argentinian run, IICR) and I remember the black kid and the chubby girl being sold or given some sort of stickers that, if they put them on their skin, would get you high and violent. So, these kids who were overall nice kids suddenly started to talk back at their parents, being rebellious, and yelling at people, and they they got sick and had to take to the hospital to figure out that this was caused by the drugs they accepted from a stranger.

Look, I'm not an expert on drugs, but I've never heard of sticker drugs...

I remember hearing about sticker drugs as a kid - it may have even been in an official school anti drug program with Officer Friendly.

The middle part of season 2 of Twin Peaks after Laura’s murder gets solved before the finale.
It genuinely gets so unbelievably bad that you think, "What the fuck am I watching?" Frost and co. had no idea what they were doing without Lynch.

Diane Keaton's directed episode was the worst. Not because she was a bad director but because nobody on Earth gives a fuck about James's adventures outside of Twin Peaks.

Nigger, you cannot possibly think "Dagger of the Mind" is worse than "Last Salute to the Commodore". TISN'T.
Pet peeve but I hate the episodes where Columbo wins with a "trick" like that Commodore episode where if the guy just hadn't said anything, Columbo would've had nothing. I like the ones where he actually, incontrovertibly, solves things on his own. Sadly enough there are quite a few Columbo episodes that end this way. The dynamite, the camera (which is the best use of the trick wins), the construction episode with the digging up of the pile, the blind twins, etc. Some of them are kind of a grey area too and don't feel as much like a cheat, like when he gets the commissioner or the art dealer, those are much smarter and set up better. But it's more satisfying when he outright solves things and he didn't have to rely on the killer doing something dumb, like with the cuckoo clock in the football episode.

It's an urban legend that a lot of moral guardians took seriously, kind of like razor blades in candied apples on Halloween. Drug dealers have better things to do than give free LSD to elementary school kids. That stuff ain't cheap.

That's also a terrible portrayal, because the drugs in the episode would make the kids sick. If you want kids to recognize the true dangers of drugs, you need to tell them how they're appealing.

And, speaking of Mexico, another worst episode ever, this is too similar to the SVU GG episode due to the boomer writing and the absolute cringe.

There is a series called "The Rose of Guadalupe", a pseudo Catholic series about how people would do bad stuff or get themselves in trouble and it gets solved by praying to Lady of Guadalupe who would help them to overcome. Like SVU, it's a lot of "taken from the headlines" episodes about stuff that happened or current themes. I mean, technically, it's pretty harmless for boomer watchers in general. My mom loves that shit.

One of the episodes was about Otakus, it was called "Let's Save the World!". It was about a girl who was meant to be into anime stuff, but she was a total autist who would go to school in full cosplay and was so into it that she and her friend would both make randomly hero poses and all that shit.

Of course, they get bullied and I think the girl at some point got physically assaulted by her classmates. The mom was worried about her and I remember she started to investigate about the movement and she said that her daughter belonged to one of the many "urban tribes" like punks, emos, or lolis that was about teens finding their own identity. So, the mom goes to school to defend her child also dressed like some generic anime character. So, the lesson is not that you should dress appropriately but that people need to accept you no matter what. Also, that lolis are an urban tribe.

The worst thing is that... this was made in Mexico. Imagine being Mexican and not knowing about otakus and all of that. Shame.

For the Simpsons, I know a lot of people usually go with The Principal and the Pauper, but my personal pick for worst episode has to be Lisa Goes Gaga. I can hardly even consider it a Simpsons' episode. It's just roughly twenty minutes of Lady Gaga getting her ego stroked hard, along with no rememberable jokes. Sure, the Simpsons were already in their "Zombie Simpsons" phase, but that episode was pretty much the final nail in the coffin for a lot of people who still watched the show.
