I have a Ryzen CPU and a Radeon GPU. Bazzite was going to require extra hoops to get things working. I installed Mint instead. Then installed Steam. Then I was gaming. That easy.
For some games (RDR2) you might have to use 3rd party Proton but that's easy too. Some games might still occasionally crash due to bullshit anticheating shit not playing well (again, RDR2). Oh well, small price to pay to be free of Microslop. Otherwise it works just fine.

I built a new rig because i needed something that could output 4k60 for my new living room TV, and because Windows 10 is EoL and I hate Windows anyways, I decided to go Linux.
The last time i used it was around 2014, and that was Ubuntu. Ubuntu sucks dick, I hate it's UI. But Mint is a very Windows-like experience right out of the box, and it came set up about how I would have done it.

Most things just worked. It wasn't perfect, but it wasn't just a slog either. It's not like back in the day.
If you're even moderately technically capable, by which i mean you can google issues and copypaste commands, you can easily use Mint.

It took maybe a few hours total to iron out the few issues I came across. Steam works. Most games launch and run just fine. I was even able to run Windows-exclusive applications including emulators using Wine.
I didn't nuke my OS in the process. I wasn't tearing my own hair out. Even the installation was easier than Windows by a mile, once I found some software that actually worked to create the disk image. (Rufus, by the way.)
The whole process is infinitely better and far easier than it's ever been before. Not to say the average person will see it that way, but it's within the realm of possibility now.

If a retard like Linus is going to successfully transition to Linux, it should be something like Mint. Something made for Windows users who are making that transition.

This is pretty common with Windows users, I find. They’re not used to having a central repository of software. Apple users are much better about this, presumably because getting your software from the App Store is normal there. On Windows, the standard to this day is to download random binaries from random websites.

That's most likely a throwback from the MS-DOS days, where you'd buy each piece of software on physical media or download files from BBSs.

Granted, the overwhelming majority of Windows users either weren't born or didn't use computers during MS-DOS's peak, but it feels like it's something people still do because it's always been done that way.

As for the point re: app stores... yes, they're conceptually the same as repositories, but the implementation is totally different.

I'm one of those Macfags who has no problem using a central repository, as long as it isn't the App Store. I still download Mac software from random websites / GitHub pages, but only when I can't find what I'm looking for via Homebrew.
