In the beginning, there was genuine reason to lend them credibility, and they were more accurate. If you're well connected and have money, in theory it'd be a real easy way to get more money by "betting" on who'd win without having to worry about pesky things like insider trading laws, so the assumption that the powers that be would make up the lion's share of those participating. But now everything is fucking gambling, games, every political event, if you use AI you gamble if your money/time is going to result in a cool picture or workable code...
