i do agree that it is massively overvalued though, all things considered. the output it creates does not justify the absurd amount of capital investment being dumped into it, and i think that loads of investors will end up with multi billion dollar holes in their portfolios because of this bubble.

Wasn't the attention mechanism (which was the magic trick to turn deep neural nets into chatbots) originally proposed for translation by some forgotten actually smart people, until the ad factory people "discovered" it and published a paper with a meme name that popularized it?

Its top main use cases, meaning the use cases for which the most tokens get burned on a daily basis, are total garbage. As much as 1 in 5 tokens get burned by students cheating on homework. Depending on the survey, as many as half of users use it for porn. Currently, the fraction of AI data center usage that isn't unmonetizable bullshit is probably somewhere between 5% and 10%. This implies that no, we don't need to flood the desert with GPUs. We don't need to put datacenters in orbit. We need a market crash and for the 85%-95% of wasteful use to die. Beyond that, many of the legitimate use cases may not actually be productive. An AI coding agent is worth it if it costs $10 an hour, but the true cost may be as much as $100 an hour, in which case we're several computer generations away from it being useful.

The point of my Obama erotic fanfic is that this kind of idiotic crap is where the majority of capital is getting burned. It's not economically sustainable.

Why would they do that? They aren't morally against it, sure, but their best chance of success is to aim for swift and strategic victory like any other military.

20.75% is a lot more than the average country but it definitely isn't a "vast majority" of its energy. If you're referring to oil, the same 2018 review estimates that with rationing, land imports and domestic production, China can last 17 months in a state of warfare. Granted, the review is outdated, but with some rough calculations using the method they provided I estimate that China can last around 6.7 months on strategic reserves alone if they limit demand for oil by 40%.

If I come across as informed, I can assure you I’m not. I barely spent 15 minutes doing research, and even I’m surprised at how much you just made up based on vibes alone. I shouldn’t have to read through what seems like a long effort post only to realize it’s just your unfiltered dogshit opinion.

The porn is actually a big win. Specifically, if people can produce infinity bespoke smut on demand, the market value for onlyfans implodes, and the market space for most pornographers dies. Yea, the 9/10 and 10/10 girls will still get by because people do want real, but the illusion of a 6/10 striking it rich will die on the vine when they can get that for free, and don't actually even pretend to care about the person underneath.

Still have to figure out how to solve the issue of porn addiction, but anything that mitigates part of the damage radius is good in my books.
