/r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

Ignoring that we already have one of the clearest-cut cases of this in Constanzo's Narcosatanists, drug cartels are infamous for having practices inspired by satanism or santeria. I guess leaving severed heads on shrines to Santa Meurte, something unambiguously and unequivocally condemned by the Catholic church, can 'send a message', but so does just recording the executions and uploading them online. I don't know, I think going the whole extra mile and incorporating satanic elements into your executions or making initiates partake in cannibalism may have more to do than just trying to scare politicians into turning a blind eye to drug trafficking.
Satanic motifs are still within the Christian milieu, given that Satanism is a quite literal inversion of the morals and theology of Christianity. Santeria is similarly a merging of Christianity and West African religions. Notably still not an expression of historical Mesoamerican religion. If the exercise is to justify some sort of Narco takeover to Aztec Revival path in like TFR or something for Mexico, I don't think it needs to be accurate or authentic, and you can just do that, ffs Kaiserredux has TWO Aztec "revival" paths for Mexico. I don't recall the Goldshirts having a Mesoamericanist platform, or any of their leadership really believing in that sort of thing, so really, when you're getting wacky, worrying about whether it is accurate is unnecessary.

Avakian Cascadia's content is complete (no loc for this postwar tree), the AoF Paleolibs/Communialists aren't complete, and all the CW content for the NOI is complete - though also no loc.

The New Black Panther Party route for the BLA just got a new toozer.

Maybe I am going insane but sometimes it seems like half of TFR focus trees are:
2 army branches
2 economy branches
At least 2 political branches
Even the goofy paths. It's TNO Russian warlords all over again!
Got the idea to add John Ashbrook as a 1970s NPP-FR candidate, what do you think? @GoodWinSon

I wonder if he would be more interesting then Jesse Helms. Then again, there's nothing stopping having multiple options for FR-NPP (or other party branches). Strangely that's never been done. It's always 1 candidate for D, one for R, one for FR, and one for C (plus L and Y).

Wow that's a lot of "Culture Conversion".

Because it would be a lot of effort, especially for a one man team like that of RA. You gotta make full trees for each candidate, plus mini-trees for dealing the consequences of the one-termer before them, and that all scales very quickly. For example, in pre-Unfinished Business TNO you had Yockey, Hall, Jackson, McGovern, McNamara, and Kirkpatrick, that's a full SIX 8-year long trees you need to make on par with Dengist Speer, the difference is that DengSpeer is just one path as opposed to the 6 different ones you need for the USA, not even counting the 1976 and 1980 presidents, who would also need 6 trees and 6 100 day mini-trees respectively.

World First Concentration Camp mechanics?
I don't think they would be able to get away with it. Pdx allows for a fair bit (hence why the mod hasn't been taken down) but actual genocide mechanics have always seemed to be a no-go. It's why that old TNO Africa submod got 'nished, it included 'gamified' genocide content, from what I've heard.
Which is why it's probably more ideological stuff like what @Bornila said.

'These demon worshippers worship demons superficially differently to how their demon worshipping ancestors worshipped them, therefore there can be no cultural continuity and any resemblance of it has to come from the church that tried to stamp out the demon worship.'

Sure, and maybe I've not paid close enough attention to the thread, but you're the only one who's posited Aztec revival? 'Blood fetish' doesn't hinge on an authentic revival of Mexica polytheism as it existed in the sixteenth century to be salient, it's a commentary on long-observed cultural attitudes that outlasted it.

Either way, just like the claim that drug cartels haven't engaged in ritual murder, the claim that they also haven't tried to use Nahau or Aztec iconography is just easily disprovable. In fact one of the groups that has, the Barrio Azteca, is already in TFR as one of the Texan warlord states.

This feels more like a conversation to be had in the Historytube thread, but tourists are shitting it up with Atun-Shei commentary, so this place is as good as any atm. But I would step back and question if we have enough evidence to say that pre-contact Mesoamerica was unusually violent compared to other regions with a patchwork of competing city-states? I'll say that Mesoamericans, particularly the Nahua, had a cultural fixation on warfare, but as I said, contemporary Europeans, via the Catholic Church, had a similar cultural fixation with gruesome death and a long history of low-level feudal conflicts (hell, that was part of why Urban II organized the First Crusade). Italian cities and Classical Greek cities had almost constant interstate conflict with each other, extending sometimes to downright extermination of entire cities in the process, and European wars of religion had pretty extreme, religiously motivated, violence on a larger scale. Does this mean that some element of European culture is inherently death and war-obsessed? I wouldn't say so, and as such, I am not willing to extend that sort of judgment on the Mesoamericans. I would argue that, instead, the extreme level of violence in Central America is due to the incredible political instability created by the collapse of the Spanish Empire in the New World and the following cycles of civil conflict brought about by the failures to establish a civil authority and lack of sustainable governing institutions compared to the US, for example. In turn, essentially replicates the conditions of regional, hegemonic warfare over a restricted area that is endemic to city-state-filled regions.

Confucian China literally exterminates the Japanese (amongst other peoples). You can click a button to use "THERMONUCLEAR PURIFICATION" on them. I suppose it doesn't directly say "KILL ALL JAPANESE" but still. It's made very clear that you're genociding them

Maybe because it isn't described in depth? There's a difference between 300 million events about white "people" getting killed, raped, discriminated against, and worked to death by Indians, and a simple button named "Population transfer" that lowers the population and changes the culture of a state. It's what I intend to do for Dengist Speer content, lowers the population in Polish and Ostlandische states but changes the culture to German, and adds the population in other states.

You set up “Purification zones” all over Asia and basically do Chinese Generalplan Ost. Still baffles me how TFR got away with it.

I imagine TFR is getting away with it because:
1. It’s for a Chinese path. When jannies are looking out for genocide mods, they’re hyperfocusing on Europe and Nazi Germany specifically, allowing TFR to go under the radar as the Chinese fascist path is barely advertised as far as I know.
2. The genocide isn’t made into a mechanic. I haven’t played fascist China yet so I might be wrong on this, but the only things telling you that China is genociding is stuff you can infer from the focus tree, and cosmetic tags. The genocide isn’t attached to a decision tab or GUI minigame.
