Business Spirit Airlines shutting down after rescue talks collapse - No mo' flyin', neighba'.

L / A

Spirit Airlines is shutting down as a business after failing to secure a $500m (£368m) bailout from the Trump administration.

The budget airline was in talks with the US government about a rescue deal which would have saved it from collapse.

But discussions collapsed and the carrier said in an announcement on its website on Saturday that with "great disappointment" the airline had "started an orderly wind-down of our operations, effective immediately".

Spirit was emerging from its second bankruptcy filing in recent years before the US-Israel war in Iran, but the resulting surge in jet fuel costs pushed it over the brink.

All upcoming flights with Spirit have been cancelled, while those with tickets are not expected to be refunded as part of the winding down process.

Customers with outstanding tickets may be able to claim refunds via their credit card companies for flights which are not honoured.

Spirit's customer service is also no longer available, the airline said early on Saturday.
Fuel costs can make up as much as 40% of an airline's outgoings, and airlines have seen the cost of jet fuel double since the US and Israeli strikes began at the end of February.

Savanthi Syth, airlines analyst at the investment bank Raymond James, said spiralling jet fuel costs in the wake of the Iran war had proved "the final nail in the coffin" for Spirit.

Speaking to the BBC, Syth said the operator had shied away from the radical overhaul it needed during a 2024 bankruptcy procedure.

Spirit had been in the process of making the changes it needed in its current bankruptcy process, scaling back the number of flights it was offering and aircraft it owned, she said.
But its ability to survive the year was in question even before the Iran war, Syth added.

"If it wasn't for the fuel scenario, they would have been okay through the summer, beyond the summer I would have said it was still precarious."

Some have been cutting flights and others have hiked fares to cope with the cost increases. At the same time, the head of the International Energy Agency (IEA) has warned Europe could run out of jet fuel in as little as six weeks.

At the end of April, Spirit had been confident its rescue deal with the Trump administration was to be finalised imminently.

But after that deal fell through, Trump on Friday told BBC partner CBS the airline had been offered "a final proposal" to keep it in business.

The earlier plan, which would have seen the US government take effective ownership of as much as 90% of the airline, faced stiff opposition from Wall Street, Capitol Hill and even a member of Trump's own cabinet.

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy told Reuters a rescue would amount to tossing "good money after bad".

Oh no, where will I go to have some negroid in pajama pants and a shower cap ruin my flying experience with rap at max volume with no headphones and then beat me to death when I ask them to turn it down?

I flew Spirit *once*, over a decade ago. Worst piece of shit airline ever. Literally charged $10 for a bottle of water, $20 to use the fucking bathroom. Assholes.

Good riddance, fuck those niggers.

You clearly haven't seen the sheboons eating an entire herb butter-drenched seafood boil on Spirit flights.
Clearly not. Weird since I've flown with them like 20 times in the past 5 years. I've seen crews forbid off-plane food on board, though. Wonder what causes that disparity... does it really come down to each individual crew's discretion?

Then again it also probably comes down to a general aversion to starting "incidents." They know airport police won't really do their fucking jobs without an obvious outburst or extreme prodding (if you watch enough airport freakout/arrest videos, you'll eventually notice how frequently FAs and even captains have to repeat themselves to the flatfeet they want the passenger off the aircraft). Federal law and FAA regulations are extraordinarily clear about how that's supposed to work. "Officer, this person is on my aircraft. I have ordered him off my aircraft. He will not leave the aircraft. Remove him now." That should be adequate. "Why?" "Because I said so. Proceed." should be the only elaboration required. Then call the air marshals if the faggot still won't do his job. But cops are such bitches about removing obviously annoying assholes from aircraft (and they really hate being ordered around too, so that friction's always there too) I guess even pilots do their best to avoid having to rely on them for anything.

They've never charged for lavatory use. Are you high? How would you even implement that on an aircraft?

How the fuck did you miss that they're a "no-frills airline"? It's ALL OVER their fucking marketing, website, ordering system, everything. How did it possibly surprise you that an airline that charges as little as possible for air travel wasn't going to give you freebies throughout the flight.

Now why would you just get on the internet and lie like that? They don't allow outside food & drink on their aircraft (largely because they want to sell you theirs). You'll get away with a soda or coffee but on dozens of routine, uneventful flights I've taken on Spirit over the past 10 years I've never once seen anybody allowed on board with their own food, and I've seen people try it.
What the fuck are you talking about? I've flown spirit over 20 times and I always brought and ate my own food. Fuck I look like buying overpriced food at the airport just to not be allowed to eat it on the plane?

Au contraire, sir - one of the attendants, who was possibly the faggiest, lispiest Asian man I've ever seen, stationed himself near the aft lavatories most of the flight, and if you didn't give him a $20 you were not permitted to access the toliets. He blocked the way and ordered passengers to return to their seats if they couldn't pay up.

I am not making this up. One dude actually ended up pissing his shorts a little because he didn't have any cash on him. Apparently it isn't Spirit policy, but I have heard from several dozen other passengers that they experienced the same thing. It's the attendants shaking down passengers for extra cash.

For your consideration:

Neither of those links involves staff refusing the bathroom because the passenger won't pay. One is because the Seatbelt light was on, and the other doesn't give a reason but says nothing about a lavatory charge, so there was probably a reason but it was never mentioned.

look man, all I can tell you is that it happened on the flight I was on. Why the fuck would I lie about it?

That's an overflowing oil tanker of donkey shit. Not only do they not accept cash for payment for anything in-flight (credit cards only, and I suspect they don't have a "merchant product code" for "using the shitter," it's illegal too, and that kind of shit grounds airlines and hands people juicy settlements. There is zero chance this actually happened. No crowd would tolerate that. Especially not a "bus full of niggers" as everyone loves to claim Spirit airlines was.

Not to mention the fact that as a straight white man, I'd have cheerfully and without hesitation whipped it out and pissed straight down his leg the moment I was "ordered back to my seat" for failing to pay to use the toilet. "Guess you're my toilet today then, lad." Niggers would have literally started flinging feces at an "enforcer gook" like that.

For Eurocucks, Spirit is basically RyanAir. RyanAir was one of the worst flying experiences of my life. I never flew Spirit because I could afford not to but yeah. RyanAir and Spirit, not even once.

It’s not even that people ‘dressed up’ for it. That’s just how we dressed day-to-day.
At this point just bring back government regulation to jack up the prices so retarded slobs can’t fly.

Also with spirit gone the issue is niggers will find other airlines and it’s bad for overall market competition, larger airlines are just going to buy up the aircraft and the routes now. It’s like how Ansett collapsed in Australia and although it initially led to some small low cost carriers, virgin took up a lot of the market

Probably not with legacy carriers like Delta or United. They are just credit card companies with airlines attached, which is why I like them. Did see this, but it is obvious they don't want Spirit customers as their customers.
