I wonder if it could ever make a comeback with a new wave of content creators and retro reviewers? I can see it. Revamping the classic content formulas for a new generation with film reviewers targeting things that get overlooked in the field like a show reviewing cheesy classic B movies with a corny classic horror host inspired show runner instead of having some nerd picking apart hollywood/childhood icons for 80-90s kids for the millionth time and passionate game fans covering underrated videogames from the 2000s instead of the icons of the late 80s and early 90s like every other god damn mainstream game reviewer has talked about for the past 15 years on youtube.

It COULD work. Give the people some new things to watch and they will come, especially if you already have an online presence that can allow you to get the message out.

The old format is done and dusted, partially because of content strikes on youtube which weren't a thing on blip, but also because it was a trend that went away because its time was over.

What would have kept CA alive was an original project they could have actually made money off of with merchandise and DVD/Blu-ray sales at conventions. An original show they could have sold would have helped them considerably. Demo Reel, except it's about a small studio trying to make a new movie, and while filming it actually make the movie starring Spoony. A sci-fi show where every week they fight an alien that's played by a bigger internet star or one of the c-listers they made friends with at a con.

But it never occurred to them, or anyone else funnily enough, so it never happened.

The main issue is distance, if it was all reviewers situated in the same state it would have been possible to make a bigger project, but with different states Doug would have needed to put them in hotels and give them a salary that would rarely justify what they can bring to the episode. Especially as they are all comedians (loosely) rather than actors, and being in a cameo would not get people to watch their shit.

It became especially impossible when people started aping Linkara's Doctor Who ripoff stories, creating their retarded lore they tried to cram into crossovers.

In the end CA was about signal boosting, not developing talents.

I can't imagine that old CA crew managing to come up with something original. Kickassia was about as close as they got, and that still leans heavily on random pop culture crap. All these people did were review things and make references to their old reviews. Their identities were so intertwined with the mountains of media they had consumed it couldn't really be separated.
