i like the idea of public transportation that takes people to where they need to go efficiently and with little crime. i also like the idea of from each according to his ability, to each according to his needs. in theory those ideas sound good

however, with the reality of what we have to work with, it's just not feasible. America has some unique problems that prevent those ideas from functioning in a way that maybe other countries have figured out. i'm not a pessimistic doomer though. i believe those ideas could work someday if we ever find some kind of solution for those problems

Mine didn't even get up to the 80s, at best we made it to Nam. The way American history classes are run is abysmal, they waste so much time. I swear, we spend all of grade school on the American Revolutionary War and Civil War, only for high school classes to waste time retreading it for the umpteenth time. Once you move past these two periods, there is so little time left to cover other topics, much of which gets spent on Industrialization and the World Wars. If you are lucky, you mainly make it to Vietnam, don't expect anything past that.
