Title - There’s Asbestos in the Tech House

They either knew before buying it. Or are idiots to not have someone inspect the whole place before closing.

At least in parts of the US, that would have been part of the disclosures before buying. I highly doubt that's much different in Canada. He's a fucking idiot.

at 2:20 the retard looks at a piece of electrical conduit(the hotglue and other shit IS stupid), and calls it "armor"? What the fuck? How has he been involved in tech for this fucking long and doesn't know what a flexible piece of conduit looks like?

2:30 This shit would have been identified by a home inspector(in the US at least) prior to anything going on, just so the property could be sold. If he's pretending he didn't know this, he's a liar. Home inspection reports cannot possibly be that vastly different in Canada than the US.

3:20 shoves a robot vacuum into the crawlspace instead of just having someone use a shopvac for 30 minutes.

5:10 can't roll up a fucking carpet for some reason. Realizes he's being a retard.

6:18 I'm actually surprised they got a floor scraper.

6:40 actually asks his employee to shill a vacuum. Fails at doing so due to lack of mic and vacuum running.
7:15 whines about the number of staples used to properly adhere carpet to a step

8:05 whines about carpet on a "wall" it's on a fucking step and clearly the railing was added afterwards.

8:25 list of shit they forgot to buy like retards.
1773883634342.png

9:05 They're hiring demolition guys? So why the fuck are they doing demo?

9:50 Whines about expanding the kitchen area into the dining room, as if you still couldn't fit a table to seat 6 there. Fat idiot claims no one uses dining rooms anymore. Also, that dishwasher looks like it fell out of 1987. Retards in the comments who live alone in tiny apartments talk about turning their dining room into 3d printing spaces.

10:10 Wants to salvage some vinyl faux wood flooring for some reason?

10:30 Fat guy says the house needs a closet full of servers for some reason. Cuts a hole in the wall for an AP that he doesn't even know he can run cable to.

11:04 "I want a water dispenser in the new fridge" Ok? So buy one with a water dispenser. "This fridge leaked at some point" No, the drip pan likely overflowed at some point instead of just evaporating.

11:50 more vacuum shilling. Didn't think to look at the other side of the wall to see where the "cable armor" went to. Apparently the robot vacuum earlier was also shilling.

Their previous video a month ago shows them going through the inspection report. There's no fucking way the asbestos wasn't mentioned(or looked for during inspection) in a 40+ year old house.

There's a point in this video where they're talking about putting a rack into a closet, and one of them asks if it's already 19" wide and they could just mount rails into it. You're touring a house you bought and don't have a fucking tape measure?

This is a new type of idiocy. The house is going to need to be gutted. They could have hired a demo crew from a home depot(or the canadian equivalent) parking lot and had them strip the interior to the frame and been done with that after a couple of days and a dumpster rental/pickup or two. Then use the rest of the "project" to show buying and installing shit. Not tearing out carpet that their renter audience would never do.

At this point, I'm almost curious if Linus just wants to try his hand at being a house flipper, without the commitment. He's in the right age bracket to start thinking he's handier than he is.
He's probably also got the money just from his bullshit simply to do it without it needing to be "content". Find some shitty old houses in ok neighborhoods, renovate and flip them. Doesn't need to be tied to LMG at all.

Oh absolutely. I was curious about some of the shit with some motion sensors in the hallway and adding some lights across the room that could be controlled at the main outlet, looked into it and it seems most of the people doing this home automation shit have lost their minds. The subreddit for it is a mess of people constantly fighting with trying to get random fly by night company and kickstarter(same thing really) shit to work, and people complaining about how their family keeps "ruining" everything by using a regular ass lightswitch so you've got people putting ducktape over switches, installing those plastic bubbles to keep people from flipping a switch, all while having what looks like a fucking 4 gang electrical box with 4 switches that all have 3-6 buttons for their 10'x12' living room. Meanwhile they replace switches, outlets, and bulbs every 3-12 months, meanwhile I've replaced a switch or outlet on average maybe once a decade if that? I don't understand why anyone would want to live like a fucking idiot constantly wanting to re-do the electrical in their home.

And I bet half of them are renters just fucking shit up for owners.
The one smart bulb I had needed to be connected every time someone turned it off without using the app. Anytime someone turned of the lights using the switch it would constantly flicker until you connected it to Wi-Fi again.
Eventually, I was able to keep the switch from being pressed, but the bulb died after less than two months of using it. 17$ led bulb that died in two months and was half as bright when you used any color outside of the white spectrum.

I think the asbestos is just click bait. For starters the report shown is obviously something they made and not a real report. Apparently the exterior walls are all at risk of asbestos and are marked in red. I put a blue X on the rough location of the camera for the attached image and as you can see the exposed wall has no asbestos. Until I actually see some asbestos this is fake and GAY. 1974.png

Likely places for asbestos in a house bult between the 60s and 80s

Any vent for a natural gas heated device. Wall heater, gas water heater, etc.
Fireplace chimney
Subfloor tile(there wasn't any visible when they were tearing the carpet up, and I doubt there would be any under the faux wood laminate)
Laminate flooring(it's possible the laminate in the kitchen had some but it looked like the place was renovated too recently for that)
Popcorn ceiling(I didn't notice if it had that but not all popcorn ceilings have asbestos)
Appliance insulation(as old as the dishwasher was, I doubt it, and the oven was far too new)
Attic insulation(I doubt the house is old enough for this, looks like gravel usually)
Wall insulation, this would explain it being exterior walls but we saw that was fiberglass.
Drywall, but that got eliminated in the 70s(some shitty companies were making it in the early 80s) and I'm pretty sure that place was built in the 80s based off of what was visible and the demo guys yanking it out with no PPE.

But yes, the report(which that bullshit isn't) should have indicated the locations it was found in(if at all) Also I went back and double checked the video to see if the garage walls were finished(they were, maybe because Canada?) and the retard fat guy at 9:35 mentions how there's little need for electrical in the living room and that they could maybe get away with running it on the exterior.

Holy fucking shit this guy is braindead. If you're doing demo, this is the perfect excuse to slap an outlet on every fucking wall(sometimes 2 if the wall is long enough), because you might as well try and future proof it anyway and avoid limiting room layouts due to outlet locations. Fuck, even with the crawlspace they could add floor outlets for shitty RGB massage chair power recliner couches. Nevermind the fact that the probably 40-50 year old insulation could be replaced with more modern stuff for better energy savings especially since they're going to replace the old single pane windows anyway with modern double or triple pane.

This is why I said you just get a crew from fucking home depot and tell them to gut the fucking place down to timbers and the exterior sheathing. At which point ALL of the electrical can be re-done, network cabling easily added, do any wall changes and be able to verify the existing integrity, add additional wall backer plates behind drywall(usually just done with plywood) or additional studs where items might get wall mounted, see if you can add central heating ductwork, make sure that all the plumbling and bathroom vents are insulated properly, and so on. If you're already going to be paying an electrician and plumber, you may as well make their job easier and cost less hours. Hell, there's 2 bathrooms they could renovate with fancy tech toilets to shill if they did that and ran power to a location where a powered RGB LED bidet could be installed. Fuck, add proper ceiling lighting in the main living spaces and walk in closet.

Sorry for the sperging about how to get shit done right. This may actually be one of this dumbest series yet.

Yes, watched this last night getting paperwork done, and I had to stop in befuddlement because everything about this house now feels like they're going to scrap their plans halfway through and do a full gut reno. Because he's trying to do it by committee there's no clear vision and it's going to backfire. Literally just pick someone, be it Linus or an editor or a woman employee, ask them what they want and how to incorporate the appropriate tech into the house.

Even doing it by actual committee could still work. But you get the plans for the house or draw them yourself, and actually sit down and plan shit. Not just randomly saw a hole in the top of a wall claiming that's where you're going to maybe put an AP. Then after gutting the place you contact 2-4 vendors for each type of service needed, meet with them regarding your plans, get estimates. Once the utilities and shell are fixed, start deciding again about shit like the appliances, cabinetry, flooring, and again contact a number of vendors for each and get those estimates and make decisions based off of feedback(sometimes those plumbers, electricians, flooring guys, etc. will have better ideas than you might about shit since they know how things will work in the real world).

Even bringing in a professional window shade installer early for estimates(unless you're going to be re-framing windows to change their sizes to something weird other than whatever the modern standards are and there's no chance these guys are actually ordering custom windows) could make sense due to getting shit like power run for powered window shades which would again if done right be part of a proper smart house. Hell, it could also serve as a means to show the few home owners they have in their audience, as well as the renters the sort of shit their landlord will have to put up with. Nevermind the fact that those vendors will have access to their own supply houses and distributors for products that Linus' idiot pals won't even be aware of other than Home Depot.

Nope, I'm doing it again, need to stop. These people really are just that braindead.

The window guys alone could easily hook him up to do that electrochromic film shit. Is it excessive? Abso-fucking-lutely. But having your smart home turn your windows opaque on schedule or for thermal control, alongside on demand controls, is the exact kind of sci-fi shit he should be leaning into. Hell, they probably know other stuff that's out there and experimental in their particular field that might be of great interest. Plumbing, electrical, windows, security, lighting, kitchen, its all on the cards if this is a "do fucking everything" project. You'd have to fish around a little to find the techies rather than the old heads, but they're definitely out there.

He should have heated toilet seats that prewarm based on shitting patterns and motion detection. Spatial location and sound systems for targeted notifications tied into a calendar service, tell the right person in the right room based on where the wifi thinks you are. It doesn't need to be practical, it just needs to be cool for a youtube vid. The biggest thing he needs to not do is kitbash it out of random chinesium crap and stackoverflow scripts. If the entire series turns into "wow this is how much it sucks" then he's created an antipromo.

I'd unironically do a council of the tradesmen from above to assemble a master plan. Bring them on to show what mastery in their field looks like, its more than electronics that make a home smart, its what you put them in and what they talk to.

Hell, doing that would fit at least part of his MO of shilling crap, because it would be the perfect excuse for a sponsored(at least partially) project that the company could easily use as a demo/example of shit working well. And yeah, like I said talking to professionals gets you good feedback if the professionals aren't retarded because they know this shit, as well as other businesses they work alongside. That's at every level from product vendor down to installer.

All of the big industry trade shows? I don't mean CES. I mean the plumbing trade shows, lighting, etc. that actual industry people attend. Those companies are constantly trying to sell the latest tech crap either to install with or be installed.

And part of this probably exists. Geofencing, using BLE to track the location of someone within a building? that's all doable. But yes, it's just going to be chinesium garbage because Linus is a fucking retard and he knows his audience won't care.

I know I'm late but this video popped up in my recommendations for whatever reason and I clicked it out of morbid curiosity, Linus really has learned nothing at all. If he stopped trying to chose his operating system based upon it being marketed to le gaymers then maybe he'd actually install a proper operation system instead of a meme distro like poop!_os for a second time.

Hoes mad over on the ltt sub
The entire point of sponsorblock is to remove product placements? That's it's fucking job. Nigger you downloaded SPONSORblock and are bitching that it blocks sponsors? Also no fucking remove the segues. No one wants to listen to the first half of a sentence when the second half is skipped because it's trying to sell you shit.

What the fuck is even the point of watching LTT if you're using sponsorblock? LOL, I watched it out of curiosity knowing I was going to hate it. If you've got sponsorblock... just ignore the whole channel.
