🌟 Internet FamousLinus Gabriel Sebastian & Linus Media Group / Linus Tech Tips - Narcissistic corporate shill YouTuber driving his media empire into the ground. KILL COUNT: 2
Power level but holy shit, even my Xoomer dad who ran fucking Vista for a decade and who's last desktop was a shitbox dell with a skylake pentium was able to get Ventoy working and Linux Mint Debian Edition installed and working on on a mini pc with emulators, wine, and everything working on it. How has this niggercattle been doing this for 20 years while being unable to simply look up errors or even type -h to pull up the manual? Just call it a day and go back to the NZXT warehouse times where you took close ups of motherboards or benchmarked if used 480s in quad SLI were better than a single 590.
look linus is a confirmed low iq retard, but let's not pretend linux isn't a colossal pile of barely working shit. Sure works fine if you're running some shit for server purposes that you'll ssh to once a month to fuck with, but the second you need a graphical ui it just immediately diarrhea dumps all over your desk
i used linux in the 90s and it was an unmitigated disaster. guess what, unless you run very specific hardware and very specific distributions for very specific usage scenarios, it's still an unmitigated disaster.
i will admit i haven't touched it in 5 years. But i remember trash font rendering, drag and drop often not working correctly (something windows95 did better) updating a package breaking stuff. updating amd drivers breaking stuff. repository address changing and having to google for an hour to find where i can change it, when most dipsits just said "reinstall the newer distro".
I use octoprint for my dildo printer on an old pi 3 and it's nagging that the python release on it is EOL and i can only update it by nuking the install and reinstalling a newer release and if i export and reimport my settings it "should" work fine. Yeah ok blow me i'm just not gonna upgrade it fuck you
i was hoping some version of BSD would step up and become daily driver usable, but bsd is even more niche and server-focused.
Replace "linux" with Ubuntu and I wholeheartedly agree. Only OS I've ever used which just fucking self destructed on at least 3 separate times just upgrading packages. Can't say I've experienced the same on Fedora, Manjaro or Debian. Only shit I absolutely can't get working are the fingerprint readers on my HP laptops.
KDE is pretty good in terms of GUIs these days I think. Tried a load of other Desktops throughout the years and they either get dropped by the distro (Unity), change in ways I don't like (GNOME) or just rub me the wrong way for some reason (Cinnamon).
I'm not sure how many things there are left that Octoprint can do that Mainsail or Fluidd cannot these days. My Klipper instance has survived a disk reimage & swap, distro upgrades and multiple package upgrades over the years with little issue running on Mint Debian Edition. Might be worth biting the bullet at some stage and trying something else if you have a spare microSD for fucking around with.
On topic: Can someone explain to a retarded casual what is the genesis of the soyfacing about CachyOS for gaming? Bazzite I at least get has a niche in that it's targeted to handhelds, but I'm struggling to see what's so special about Cachy vs any other Arch derivative.
All that is does is build packages with special flags that allows them to use more modern feature sets, in exchange for less cpu compatibility, not that it matters, x86_64-v3 is almost 13 years old now, and ships with a kernel fine tuned for responsiveness. In practice this at most helps negate 1% lows in gaming, unless the game is heavily cpu bound, which you might gain 5-6% average frame rate, most of that coming from the kernel.
In reality there are three main things that will dramatically change performance. Mesa drivers, desktop environment, and kernel in most affecting to least affecting. Everything else is just placebo.
Fuck, the idea that the bulk of the LTT community would be "power users" based on those definitions is insane. 90% of that community is "enthusiasts" who would better fit into that "casual" category since most of them seem to have no idea what the fuck they're doing.
Yes, they’re enthusiasts.
You’re thinking of professionals. They’re not the same. An enthusiast can make a correct decision just as he can make the incorrect one, the only one you can expect to make the right choice (a Mac) is the professional, cos it’s his job and his job depends on making good choices.
I'm actually late as fuck here, however, I've had decent coverage with Walmarts onn Brand in America. My father-in-law got scammed horrible on one of the gold-plated connectors... You're genuinely not going to notice much of a difference unless you're pushing a high refresh rate high resolution

Do you have any suggestions for non-pozzed distributions? I want no bloat and good functionality. I heard Devuan is good, like debian but without systemdick. Really what i want to try is a distro without the stench of neovagina in it and that doesn't completely break shit with every version bump.

Thanks, I wasn't aware alternatives exist. I just need to be able to send prints overt the network and monitor progress so I will be looking into these.

I was anti-mac generally because other than packaging the hardware was generally mediocre for a high price. Became less true when they started to include high-dpi IPS panels everywhere they could while windows machines were still pushing terrible TN panels (looking at you Lenovo). Now with the latest processor releases and the incredible single-thread performance, there actually is an argument to be made to choose them over a PC, so I guess my only complaint is the entrance price and non-upgradeable nature (which is again, entrance price).
Say what you will about MacOS but it is Unix and it is extremely reliable. Windows 11 being a jeeted shit show and Troonix being - generously - hit or miss coupled with mediocre hardware performance outside of mega high $ GPUs, the Apple product offering is actually compelling.
The singular two good things that Louis Rossmann was ever able to say about Apple hardware was that even on the cheapest base models, you were still getting a high quality display, and solid state storage.
Seems like the LTT cables are a massive markup and you can get cables way cheaper that perform the same. I'm still interested in a comparative review using one of the fancy cable testers Wendell has.
While it's not a very in-depth review at least he's comparing it against other cables, which is considerably more than other 'reviews' that are basically unboxings. There was even this faggot shilling the cables and when asked about testing them in the comments he said he hadn't received the cables yet.
I'm shocked. Just like all their other products. Take a decent chinese supplier and slap their name on it and mark it up. You really lean on "trust me bro" that all the cables will be in spec, especially after what happened with der8auer and chinese suppliers.
Bazaar's 'high risk' classification for X11 seems fairly unique to me. See screenshots comparing Bazaar, GNOME Software and Discover. You can see GNOME Software classifies it equal to a bunch of other stuff, but Bazaar elevates it it as 'high risk' and displays a scary warning box when you install it. KDE Discover just simply lists the permissions, but doesn't seem to classify them or even mention X11 for that matter.
The MacBook Neo looks very tempting for the price. Sure, it's stuck with 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD, but it's on Apple Silicon, has a Retina display and an aluminum case, all for around $600. It's even somewhat repairable.
Sure, there are Windows laptops that are cheaper... but current year Windows laptops are mostly awful.

The flags are in Bazaar which isn't the official GNOME app store - Software is the official one. For some utterly retarded reason, the KDE version of Bazzite uses Bazaar instead of Discover. Even if it didn't, there's a bunch of other alphabet pride nonsense Bazzite push:
Battery life on Windows laptops is absolutely abysmal at the moment. If you do anything more than browsing the web or word processing then life expectancy drops off a cliff. They are also becoming more and more proprietary, in that you cannot easily control the fans, keyboard backlights or power curves if you switch to Linux on a lot of laptops.
The Framework and System76 laptops look nice, but have a significant markup and performance cut. When I need a future laptop, my software is usable in Wine/VM and the year of the Linux desktop arrives in 2026+1 I will fully switch.
I watched a teardown of the Neo and it was shockingly easy to swap the battery, screen and maybe even the keyboard without having to remove mountains of glue, all with a nice full metal chassis and no shitty hinges like some plastic workstation/gaming laptops. The RAM and storage were however soldered and there is no upgrade path to add the touch sensor to the keyboard after the fact.
Archiving the actual images in the Xeet here so you can see the images more clearly. Notable elements are a Framework Laptop, the KDE Dragon, the progress homoflag and the bisexual flag. Their fetish truly infects everything, as of course their mascot is bisexual and panders to the mentally deranged basement dwellers that obsess over every aspect of their lives fitting their worldview.

At this point, I'd definitely say Bazzite is at fault.
