Postmarks are invaluable in fast moving threads. I made a thread to ask for this previously but it was locked.

Asking politely for this again since I think it has value and not trying to be rude by posting another thread (the other one was locked so I couldn't post in it)

If senior users can't do it directly, perhaps they could vote for postmarking and if a post gets enough votes it automatically becomes postmarked (separate to the reaction rating system)

oh you mean skip the mod queue?
I understand that that is conceptually how it works, "the mods get to decide things"
I'm proposing that the long-term users get to dictate it instead, and its more of a social thing.

In this instance you think postmarking a post that shows how to donate to the k-farms shouldn't be postmarked - in my world it would be postmarked because the thread is highly active and it would hopefully get more eyeballs and more financial support for the k-farms.

Is it strictly on topic? no, but often that doesn't matter - if users got to decide it, it would be more in line with what users want and not in line with what mods find agreeable. That isn't say "fuck the mods" but rather just allowing user to chart the course of postmarks with their own thoughts about it.

i mean my answer is no. postmarking is a very important feature and it is determined by objective criteria that random people cannot be trusted with.
Can you put a word limit on this guy's posts? Please?

saar do needful let me postmark my own shitposts on my shitty gimmick i am brahmin senior user saar

And that is why Dear Feeder will restrict postmarks until the end of time.

I remember a teacher in high school saying that me learning to type was the worst thing that could happen to me because it allowed me to write faster than I could think.

Anyway, its a forum so cope and enjoy Aunt Jemima teaches typing:

Ok. I guess one of the issues in that Iran thread was that no mod seemed to be online for quite a while. That could be solved with more mods obviously. I imagine the happenings threads are pretty high traffic on the forum (not necessarily from members but even non-member readers) so having postmarks be there quickly has a lot of value.

That's worrying, because it takes you 3 paragraphs to express a single thought.
I enjoy writing and it is a good way to explore ideas conceptually and a great way to share your deeper thoughts about something. If you don't write about stuff like this then you're seriously missing out.

And this is a forum and not twitter or instagram or facebook - I'm here to read and type and quote and rate and to do it extensively.

You do realize, that highly rated posts still get highlighted, achieving exactly this. Right?
The postmark system exists to fill in the gap where a necessary, informative post is not as popular as the funny memes around it. No funny meme should ever be postmarked. Postmarking a post actually increases the number of highlights per segment. It ordinarily picks 5 highlights per 5 pages (could all be on the same page, 1 each, whatever). If there's 3 postmarks, it still picks 5 automatic highlights, making 8 marked posts in total.

yes already half our postmark requests are basically just super-upvotes.
This begs the question of whether or not it matters if a post gets the equivalent of a "super upvote" and isn't strictly a by the books post that should be postmarked.

I think the users/thread should make that decision, if they think a post is so great or funny that it is worthy of it, then it should be highlighted just the same as an informative update.
