and I'm pretty sure the vast majority of everything that falls under a petroleum based "plastic' umbrella is made from those two byproducts of refining fuel, regardless of the specific name or type.

Wen Jiabao, former Premier of China, said in 2007 that "the Chinese economy is unbalanced, unstable, uncoordinated, and unfair" and that China will ultimately stagnate if more structural political and economic reform isn't undertaken. Wen Jiabao was the Premier of China during the Hu Jintao administration from 2002-2012 (if I'm not mistaken). This was right after China formally acceded to the World Trade Organisation. The Hu-Wen era oversaw the most drastic and significant growth alongside significant industrialisation and urbanisation since the onset of Deng Xiaoping's Reform & Opening Up in 1979. Wen Jiabao saw the writing on the walls, yet was ultimately hamstrung because this was back when consensus among the Party was critical.

The Xi Jinping administration, to this point, completely threw out the consensus among Party elders and formally enshrined Xi Jinping with powers unseen since Mao Zedong himself. Whatever progress that China made during its time as the so-called "sleeping dragon" is actively being undermined because of Xi Jinping's actions. Even if Xi Jinping wasn't a factor, the imperative to cheat, cut corners, and cook your books in mainland Chinese society means that it would only be a matter of time before the house of cards falls underneath its own weight.

most of the products of crude oil distillation can be converted into each other with a few extra processing steps and most have multiple applications anyway
for example polyethylene (the most common plastic) is made from ethane gas, but if we didn't make plastic from it all the ethane from refineries wouldn't just go to waste, it's used for tons of other chemical processes too and can also serve as a simple combustion fuel

Let them, solar fucking sucks for large scale energy protection. It's great for low voltage remote stuff. Things that can run for dozens of hours on a battery charge that has a little solar cell topping it off and allows it to run for years with no hook up. Ranch gates are a great example of this.

But covering the earth with cells like that, destroying whatever habitat was there to produce a fraction of the power a nuclear plant can, is the exact opposite of "Green".

Plus those cells are not recycable, wear out a lot faster than they'll tell you in direct constant sunlight, and turn a lot of important materials into landfill, like silver. And they still need a lot of water to keep them clean to keep up efficiency.

Just because China subsidizes their manufacturing to make a lot of shit cheap, doesn't mean they are good.

That's the failed solar plant in Nevada, right? That one is funny, they tried focusing sunlight with mirrors onto a tower to boil water. Firstly, it didn't work at night so they had to burn gas to heat the water when the sun went down, but secondly it didn't work during the day either so they had the gas heating the water then too :story:
