So your spouse treats you to dinner and then you do nothing for them for Valentine's day?

Who said romance is dead?

Asshole to the end, eh? Also, hi, Peet. Hope you enjoy all the shit we say about you, you little bitch. This, or more clearly, they did read Courtney's status from here.
Lily would do the same thing he always does, claim he was actually the victim and get his small group of supporters to surround him and eventually turn to sending him asks along the lines of "did you know your old stalker Mikay was doing XYZ" or "are you planning to review the next DMC game or is it too traumatic because it reminds you of your ex". What I'm interested in seeing is how Lily somehow accuses Mikay of being transphobic.

There's one clink in that strategy. Peet's audience is not large enough to defend them, and keeping them isolated simply will not work anymore. They are getting smaller, not bigger. So even if they went with the same playbook. It's going to bomb, given that now people know what kind of bullshit they pull.

Lily's audience has absolutely shrunk, but all it takes is one overly dedicated viewer/patreon supporter with delusions Lily is the elven trans queen of their dream for them to get shipped in as a replacement

The chance for that is little, given how barren the Discord is. That is simply a pipedream for this idiot unless they go after the traitorous bitch that is Xain.
So your spouse treats you to dinner and then you do nothing for them for Valentine's day?

Who said romance is dead?

It's dead for this couple. Mikay has to be the one doing everything for this asshole while Peet can't be bothered to do anything for her.

Listen: in an ideal relationship, one person is Lev/Avatar sister and the other person is Kestri/Avatar Niva. Lily says she's Lev to the internet, but she demands to be Kestri/Niva IRL to her spouse. You give up YOUR life for HERS, not the other way around. She was abused forever, for Peet's sake! It's what she is owed from the universe!

Guys, Lily is just a busy woman! Come on! She clearly had really important things to do, meanwhile her wife was doing some useless shit - like an actual job, with an actual paycheck, pfff. Lily was obviously too busy jerking off I mean, to walk a bit to the nearest store and get some basic shit for like, sugar cookies or something that is not dogfood-looking chowder. But Mikay obviously had more time and energy to cook for her after work or possible on her day off :) Because this is a healthy and happy marriage, for sure!

Why do you write relationships where one person is adoring the other while the other just gets to benefit from it?

I feel affection for people very strongly, and the friendships I cherish are the ones with people who let me express that affection. I'm not asking for that affection to be returned, only welcomed.

I had one friend vent to me about stuff going on in their personal life, and then proceed to apologize for taking up my mental space and nothing made me feel more like a stranger to them than that. And it's hard to communicate to someone "I know you're trying to be courteous, but it actually really hurts me when you act like your presence is a bother because your presence brings me so much joy."

It's hard to explain to people how I feel because it often gets misinterpreted as romantic interest.

Indeed I mistook it for this for a long time.
Anyway, I prefer to write relationships where that affection and devotion is welcome.

I think what anon meant by the "that's ableist" bit is that you answered with only mental illness, without an explanation of why mental illness is more prone to making people entitled to nothing ever changing. Because, yeah, answering just "mental illness" to a perfectly legitimate question can come off that way. Maybe if you'd added in why mental illnesses make people more prone to being change resistant, then it wouldn't have seemed ableist, just explanatory.

I have explained it hundreds of times.

  • Telling others what Mikay had done for Lily

That's so much!

Lily prefers it because either she gets to make a villain her villain, as in "this abuser represents my abuser!" or gets to say it doesn't properly do it. Or Lily jerks off to the demented side.

No elaboration, no consideration. It doesn't have romance or a way to make someone to be the villain aside from the protagonist's own actions coming back to haunt them, so Lily runs from it. Fuck responsibility!

Because the affection being welcomed is what I wanted to write.

Right. So. Reciprocity.

When two people actually care about each other, they reciprocate that affection. That does not mean they have to do exaclty the same thing for one another, but when they see a need they fill that need without asking questions. This is not to be mistaken for co-dependency-- this is a healthy form of intimacy (which, despite the conotations of that word, can be platonic) where two people understand and support each other without an expectation of gratitude in return.

This does not have to be a direct correlation. Lev cooks for Kestri-- this is an expression of affection, him going out of his way to learn weird Old World recipes and gather the ingredients as best he can. This takes a lot of time and effort in space, and requires a lot of research into things which are difficult to confirm, but he does this because he knows how much it means to Kestri. This is, in a vacuum, sweet.

Kestri eachs his food and complains about how hard her day was.

Lev supports her and encourages her to pursue her work and not listen to the people who don't respect her. He is her emotional anchor. This is how he supports her and shows affection.

When Lev admits to Kestri that something terrible happened to him, she sits in his lap and makes him listen to her talk about combustion engines.

Lev didn't give up a life to be with her, but he has tacitly divested himself of ever trying to pursue his own goals. He lives only to pilot the ship and make Kestri feel special.

Kestri lets Lev pilot the ship and make her feel special.

She does nothing for him but take. As I said, her response doesn't really have to be directly equivalent, but it should be something. But the moment where we would most likely see this something -- when he tells her he was molested in the hallway -- she instead makes the moment all about her. She demands his attention. She demands his physical presence. She ignores what he said completely and just goes off on an unrelated tangent. And it's clear that she isn't doing this to take his mind off what happened because Lev doesn't give a shit about cars or Old World technology.

You know how Kestri could have 'sacrificed' for him in this moment? By talking about something he cares about. By showing that she actually does understand him enough that she tries to engage him in his interests. But no. She's legitimately convinced that Lev loves nothing more than to hear the sound of her voice, and threfore starts yapping his ear off about shit he couldn't care less about because she, Kestri, is so amazing and perfect and beautiful that surely Lev will never tire of listening to her. Surely.

This is not a healthy dynamic. Lev exists only to serve Kestri-- he is not allowed to have his own pursuits, his own hobbies, his own thoughts, and Kestri in turn doesn't care that this is the case. It's been mentioned before, but their original characters cards were super telling; both Lev and Julie have 'Kestri' among their favorite things, but Kestri doesn't acknowledge either of them.

That's not love. This is codependcy. This is enmeshment. Kestri is an entitled narcissist and Lev is in an abusive cycle with her.

Maybe because you need momentum between your short-form and long-form content? To at least keep your audience coming back? Otherwise, you're putting a gun to your foot. It doesn't help at all that you are in no fucking position to be picky after Joon. But sure, keep pretending there's not a gun wound on your stomach as long as you get to hold that precious knife in your hand.

Been busy the past few weeks and haven't been able to chime in when the Chomo talked about how to DM ie grief people you know, but the little example of what I imagine using its DM "tactics" against it would be like is to good (in my opinion) to let go unposted.

The party enters a dungeon known as the "Doom of the False Eldar", immediately upon entering all Chomo Elves lose 8 stats points and 5 character levels. If any one stat is reduced to zero they are automatically killed and have their souls condemned to the region of evil views in Samghata the third Naraka for a billion kalpas (This last effect actually happens by default to Chomo Elves anywhere in this campaign world when they die.), and cannot be resurrected even with a wish spell. In the dungeon they must battle several Tarrasques, an arch-fiend, a neutronium golem, and dodge spring sphere of annihilation traps. At the end of the ordeal is a lone platform above a great pit on which is a portal to the world of Stockholm, however the only access is a long narrow metal bridge and the area around the portal is blanketed by a anti-magic field. When a creature makes it three quarters of the way across the bridge a trap is triggered which zaps all of those standing on the bridge and deals 10-100 hitpoints of damage, All those zapped must make a DC 40 fortitude save to avoid pissing their pants, if this save is failed the character must then make a DC 50 reflex save to avoid slipping on their piss puddle and falling into the great pit. If the character falls into the pit they eventually land on a colossal sphere of annihilation at the bottom and will automatically die.

Or human illiterate.

I shouldn't diagnose lolcows, but Lily acts like a lower IQ sociopath. The part of Lily's brain that controls empathy is damaged or never worked in the first place. The consequences part is stunted too, but at least built up enough that it prevents Lily from committing crimes. Lily only cares about the morality of something if Lily is punished for something. Everything else exists but doesn't have a 3 dimeinsional brain like Lily, just assigned character traits. Lily only likes people if they asspat Lily or give Lily something Lily wants, like sex. Even then, Lily is shown to be ungrateful to others who are not enacting Lily's exact whims or are trying to engage with Lily - you don't get that privilege. That's Lily's job. Now go back to playing pretend how Lily wants you to.

The concept that people have wants and needs that Lily didn't assign to them is absolutely foreign to Lily. The concept that Lily should give a shit if someone is upset is wrong to Lily because Lily is the one who feels it all and no one else does. Lily thinks Lev's character is perfect because Lily wants to be seen as the most selfless human who's worthy of looking up to on the planet, and Lev giving it all up for love is super unselfish. Not having complicated motives outside of his own sister is simple and lets Lily easily understand and write Lev, who Lily thinks is much deeper because loooooooveeeee is so deeeeeeeep.

I think Lily wants to be Kestri but has to pretend to be Lev to make herself look better. Even then, Lily thinks other people turning into simple one note beings is highly beneficial since it means she can understand them and manipulate them better unlike IRL people. Lev IS perfect as is. Kestri was always cutely flawed in the way Lily likes, the kind that can be written off as misunderstandings from others or wacky shenanigan causing that everyone worth a damn (like Lev) learns to love.

I think Lily doesn't grasp that Kestri provides jack and shit to Lev since Lev literally just wants Kestri to talk at him all day and make him do things. Lev exists in no other state than to serve, and Lily doesn't get that everyone else feels the same way Lily does: serving someone unconditionally isn't a reward. Lily wants others to think it is or even thinks others must see it that way in love sometimes (the CORRECT way to love in Lily's mind, doormat bangmaid), but other people don't. This is probably why Lily hates most of humanity: they don't fucking get that they should act like this and their selfishness in not understanding love and servitude is its own reward is offensive. She says she thinks that love and servitude is important, then acts the opposite of course. Because she's a fucking terrible liar.

Nope

Just a reminder that Lily literally can't understand analogy and metaphor.

Come to think, this might be why she thinks Miyazaki's movies are 'about nothing'. She raves about Takahat's movies, but most of his movies are actually very grounded with minimal (if any) elements of the fantastical. They are telling literal stories about 'real' people in their day to day, which is th eonly thing Lily can empathize with other than villains whose conflict resolution is murder. Miyazaki's films are oftentimes universal lessons told in fantastical ways, which Lily just can't grok because, uh, SHE was never a witch moving to a new town? SHE never got transported to a bathhouse?! Nobody DOES this, this is STUPID.

(I wonder if she would feel Kiki's more if she was just an Uber driver. Would that suddenly make the themes clear?)

This really reflects in her writing, too. She HAS interesting ideas and there's a ton of things in Into the Void that could be fleshed out into an actual novella, but all she wants to do is fixate on the domestic scenes that could be happening in any environment, because she lacks the imagination and capacity for empathy that is required to really put yourself in a fantastical environment and imagine what it would actually be like to live there. She only just bumbled through TSR because all the actions scenes were already written for her in the movies and she just had to say 'but Aliana stopped the cool shit from happening because she's so powerful'.

I prefer psychological horror.

Lily that horror is... that horror can absolutely be psychological. Most psychological horror actually uses a paranormal or fantastical element in order to explore the human response to heightened tension. Like I get it, a stalker is strictly way scarier than a malicious alien, but you can conflate the two human instinctive responses to being stalked by a predator without asking the question of why the protagonist doesn't just, like... buy a gun if they think this guy's going to hurt them.

(I mean, you're in Canada so the victimw ould be jailed for defending herself, but still.)

Do you prefer psychological horror because that's what your degree is in?

I'd actually be really interesting in seeing your perspective on certain games and movies with elements of psychological horror.

I prefer it because ghosts are never as terrifying as the depths of human cruelty.

'Human cruelty' actually sounds like torture porn, which we know she'll gladly write.

I highly suspect that Liy doesn't understand what 'psychological horror' actually is.

Nor does the anon because 'well you have a psych degree so you must prefer PSYCHOLOGICAL horror'! No, that's... those are two different things. No.

Mental illness
While I'm thinking about her psych degree, I know we don't need any further proof that she doesn't have one, but come on. You cannot tell me that a psych major would not only just say 'mental illness' to this kind of human-behavior prompt, but that modern psych classes wouldn't have dedicated class discussions to the behavioral psychology behind this trend in social media.

Also Lily specifically has a behavioral psych degree, allegedly, so this shoulld ABSOLUTELY be in her wheelhouse. If it existed, I mean.

Even then, I can't help, but theorize that they'll be even more miserable and bitter because sociopaths like them never take something like that lightly. You know, beneath this victimization bullshit, Peet still is obsessed with getting Courtney back as their property. If she were to die, there would be some smug posting, of course, but this is going to affect them, and they'll lash out since they will never accept the one person they wanted the most is no longer around.

The point is to keep talking about it.

I'm curious, I've read in some places that consensual incest doesn't exist and that it's always abusive. But you don't seem to believe this? Why is that?

It's worth mentioning that when people make this claim, they are 9 times out of 10 speaking strictly about parents abusing their children. Every other form is summarily ignored, which I feel is reductive but explains the attitude at play.
That having been said: Incest is always unhealthy. That is not the same thing as abusive. Framing it entirely in a Victim-Abuser dynamic is actually deeply unhelpful, because when you do that you take your biases with you. And because we live in a patriarchal, misogynistic society, that framework is superimposed onto any narrative of abuse.
It also just discounts the reality that the most common form of incest is teenagers messing around and doing something stupid, something that I don't feel warrants anyone getting tarred as an abuser for. Nor should people trying (badly) to cope with a dysfunctional environment.
These things happen. We don't like to talk about them, but they happen. And they aren't as cut and dry, they aren't as mentally safe, as the Victim-Abuser dynamic. When one person is clearly in the wrong, that's easy. That's safe. When nobody is, or everyone is, that's hard and brushes up against a lot of very uncomfortable things people don't like to think about.

So far Marnie is the worst of these movies
No I haven't watched Ocean Waves, Earthsea or Earwig yet.
She hated When Marnie was Here.

Bets are on, will she be a contrarian about Earwig? The objectionably worst ghibli film to date?

I don't think there is anything that could say that would stop the flaming this idiot is going to get once they get to Spirited Away. Honestly, even if they are going to be a contrarian to be a asshole

The moment they completely misunderstand SA, the rest of the video might as well be a black screen because the audience would have checked out and start shitting on it.
