This was always going to escalate to someone dying. This was always not only the goal of the protesters (to establish a martyr and vilify the feds) but also the only possible outcome of continual escalation without a serious crackdown on the nonsense in Minnesota.

Do not doubt for a second that the people organizing these protests are not overjoyed that someone finally got plugged by the feds. It was the entire point of their rhetoric and increasingly violent protests.

All we're seeing now is wall to wall coverage of candlelight vigils for this guy ("HE WAS AN INTENSIVE CARE NURSE!!!" Was he a poet too? Did he have a dog?) and Renee Good. Every time they jump in front of a car, scream at an ICE officer, grab at them, come at them with gay little shields or garbage cans--this is what they want.

This guy brought a gun to a protest. Who was he planning on defending himself against? Another protester? No, he was hoping for a chance to an hero himself by plugging an ICE officer, to "defend himself" if they tried to arrest him. There was a little voice in his head that said "I might die today, but it will be worth it because I am fighting NAZIS!!" They all think this. And the ones who sit back and organize them and and stay off the streets want it too, because it is giving them the optics win. We're already talking about "conditions for ICE leaving Minnesota."
