Mr. Gold tends to have good takes these days, but his relationship to skills like reading and writing is kinda painful. In this video for example he goes on a tangent about how learning division is stupid because you'll always have a calculator on your phone, therefore kids have no interest in it. And in other videos I've seen him talk about how great AI generation is because you won't need to learn XYZ skills to make something. But he's never really had a productive job where he's had to do complex work at the tip of a pyramid of knowledge. He doesn't get that a deep understanding of the fundamentals in any field is required to make good decisions at a more advanced level of that field. It's helpful to be able to outsource computational work, but it's not good to be ignorant of what that work even consists of.
