Back in the old days, banks didn't loan money to just anyone. In addition to holding a steady job, having sufficient income, and a 20% down payment, you also had to prove that you were an upstanding member of the community. In Salt Lake City, that meant having the endorsement of your ward's bishop (the city is divided into districts called wards and each ward has a Mormon bishop). Bulbhead shows up for a loan? Sorry, we can't make risky loans to random people.

The Fair Housing Act forbids these types of requirements so the poor and oppressed can get loans and rent houses in White areas. "White flight" is what they called the results with White people fleeing the cities for the new suburbs out on the fringe. The car and the freeways enabled this flight, but they didn't cause it like leftists claim.
