They did threaten me with violence and implicitly death
Pity and mercy
Vs
Violence and terror
This is the biggest difference between Christianity and Islam.

They did threaten me with violence and implicitly death
the martyrs were not suicidal and/or imprudentOn the other hand, the Roman empire was befuddled by the Christian martyrs facing public execution with solace and humility over denouncing their Christian faith to the extent that the crowds started to root for the martyrs?
I'll give you the hottest take in the thread (given its typical users): Churches like that aren't necessarily the devil and can be quite good quite often. Even the preaching is actually Biblical and challenging.Nice people, just wanted some hot takes if anybody's got them.
Yeah they seem quite nice. By their own admission they are only vaguely under the protestant banner. Bible readings are nice, and there's a good sense of communityI'll give you the hottest take in the thread (given its typical users): Churches like that aren't necessarily the devil and can be quite good quite often. At my Church I've met quite a few people who were there because their church lacked young people and/or programs/organization for them. Your experience is fairly common. My recommendation would be to go for it, with the caveat of please don't pick fights about how catholicism is true and based and how all prots and evans are big dumb dumbs who need to get with the program. It's irritating when people do that sort of thing
Neither please God, but the Catholic has committed a graver sin.I wanted to get some peoples thoughts on this. Let’s imagine a scenario where you have a Muslim and a Catholic. The Muslim 100% believes in Islam and follows all of its rules to the letter. The Catholic 100% believes in Catholicism, but picks and chooses which rules to follow. This isn’t saying that Islam is salvific, because it’s not, but in this scenario would God be more pleased with the Muslim who earnestly wants to follow God’s law (at least as far as he knows) over the Catholic who knows the fullness of the truth, and yet decides not to follow God’s law?
47 And that servant who knew his master’s will, but did not make ready or act according to his will, shall receive a severe beating. 48 But he who did not know, and did what deserved a beating, shall receive a light beating. Every one to whom much is given, of him will much be required; and of him to whom men commit much they will demand the more.
I'd say it depends...would God be more pleased with the Muslim who earnestly wants to follow God’s law (at least as far as he knows) over the Catholic who knows the fullness of the truth, and yet decides not to follow God’s law?
Although when we look at the history books some of the later Roman martyrs went out of their way to get killed when they didn't have to.the martyrs were not suicidal and/or imprudent
Depends entirely on what is meant by 'picking and choosing which rules to follow'. This is what God says about those who perhaps go through the motions of following him but do not understand or care about the fullness of their sin:I wanted to get some peoples thoughts on this. Literally not possible for this to be the means of salvation. No-one who is old enough to keep to the law can do so. That's not to say that God can't choose to save him by another means for another reason, but it won't be this one.A little rural muslim boy who lives and dies from the flu and lucks into keeping the 10 commandments might be invincibly ignorant enough to be saved.
that is not a suicidal tendencies (aka hatred for life). They did it to give a witness to the faith. The point of the Martyr is that he dies because of his faith, not the death itself. The Martyrs didn't pointlessly argued with people who are never going to convert via the intelectual rute, in a sarcastic and abrasive toneAlthough when we look at the history books some of the later Roman martyrs went out of their way to get killed when they didn't have to.
from one cat enjoyer to another, a prayer for your feline companion mon frère (inb4 an amateur theologian comes in here to sperg that all animals are obliterated upon death so you shouldn't care; This type is also quick to let you know how sure they are that all unbaptized fetuses are damned o algo.)I would like to ask for people in the thread to pray for my cat, she is very sick and might not pull through. I have spent a considerable amount of money to keep her from suffering but this cat is worth more to me than any money in the world. While I may not go to church very often she always comes to sit on my lap and purrs when I listen to scriptures or read about the history of the Holy Roman Empire. To me church has never been about the building, preachers or specific Bible verses but about a community sharing values and love, and I consider my cat to be a member.
Everything good is going to be restored, and tbh I came to conclusion that all animals will go to heaven anyway. They're corrupt by our sin, but they themselves are pure and innocent and hold zero responsibility for the state of the world, so rules for humans aren't applicable to them.inb4 an amateur theologian comes in here to sperg that all animals are obliterated upon death so you shouldn't care; This type is also quick to let you know how sure they are that all unbaptized fetuses are damned o algo
God when threatening Nineveh, expressed concern for the many animals there as well as the humans to Jonah (Jonah 4:11). When Joshua went to sack Jericho, God commanded the animals to be killed as well as the people (Joshua 6). To me this shows that animals can be influenced by our sin, especially ones that we domesticate, did the flood kill the fish? I find it hard to conceive of how our sin can corrupt sea life's "personality".Everything good is going to be restored, and tbh I came to conclusion that all animals will go to heaven anyway. I’d say this is bait… but I’ve seen too many people say this exact same thing regarding Catholics. (And even the Orthodox at times) I’m sure our resident Catholics could tell you that they, in fact, only worship the Christian God. Fair point on the Muslims though. A false religion isn’t salvific.>Muslim
>Catholic
They're both idolators, so they'd both go to Hell. All people are judged by the same standards in the eyes of the Lord Jesus Christ.
The Moslem would be condemned, as he would know of Christianity but Islam requires a jihad against it.I wanted to get some peoples thoughts on this. Christians are called to be stewards of the Earth, which includes animals and pets. You've been a damn good steward with your cat.I would like to ask for people in the thread to pray for my cat, she is very sick and might not pull through. Whenever I read these thoughts of apostates/athiests/agnostics/"spiritual but not religious", I'm reminded of a comment on an InspiringPhilosophy video, in which the comment talks about how almost every anti-Christian argument tends to fall six degrees to wanting to do hedonism without being judged.Every once in a while whenever doubt creeps in, I get recommended ex-Christian content that I check and I'm often baffled by how painfully retarded these takes are. Since I don't have any other place to share these, I'll rant about the blog I came across ten minutes ago here.
This was one of the most profound truths that guided me to God. I realized I was only rebelling against or denying the Lord for selfish reasons, and only to indulge pointless pursuits and addictions. I've lost nothing and gained everything by simply accepting His authority and morality.Whenever I read these thoughts of apostates/athiests/agnostics/"spiritual but not religious", I'm reminded of a comment on an InspiringPhilosophy video, in which the comment talks about how almost every anti-Christian argument tends to fall six degrees to wanting to do hedonism without being judged.
