Y'know, like the comp configuration to games is nothing new, been around since Smash. Final Destination, No Items. L4D had it's own thing called Confogl that tried to make things more even and consistent for both sides rather than Survs got AKs and SPAS12s at checkpoint 1, Infected are gon' get FUCKED.
It's just that much like most other things, DBD does it in such a retarded manner. Bhvr never implemented an option to replay the same exact map, and mods aren't allowed, so basically tournament play is a farce from the start. We're not talking stuff that you can make up for with skill or preparation, either, we're talking from three dead areas to seven god pallets side by side, same area of the map. Matches amongst equal teams are often decided by luck, or underhanded strats, of which there were a lot of.
BHVR would also rather sponsor and showcase scrub gameplay through the FW program and their lowered MMRs, and that one time they paid streamers to play the game they straight up handpicked people who had no idea how to play rather than any comp 1337 pallet looper, of which there were plenty ready and willing.
Even TCM had a better tournament scene, brief as it was. Map seeds were random there too and often swung matches, but not to the extent it happens in DBD. Eventually it got overtaken by subtle cheaters as well. Assyms aren't a very good format for competitive play, I'd say.
But DBD comp in general is a fucking joke. They host worldwide matches. They outright say that "Lag and map seed are something you are definitely gonna have to deal with, so you should just get used to it." You will play with Aussies and you will enjoy it, even though they're giving you the solid as fuck Hillbilly McDonald's Wifi chainsaw.
Anyone with half a brain could tell you then it is not a tournament, it's bullshit. They take anyone and everyone, mix and match however it comes out, and play favorites a lot during brackets, not to mention around 75% of the people are running some shenanigans hoping no one will notice. Most top level comp guys are actually just totally average dudes... But with constant wallhacks.
Then they get "caught", "banned", their result in tournament stands, they keep whatever prize, and they make a new account to play the next. It generally runs on the honor system but the organizers don't give much of a fuck, so you can do whatever. It's a generalized shitshow, and it's not even worth watching.
The fact that wallhacks are so predominant means that most matches against non-cheaters are squashes and matches amongst cheaters are this really weird triple blind mindgame that doesn't represent high level DBD at all. Almost every time you'll notice as it gets closer to grand finals, people just full W and run the loops predropping while absolutely refusing to mindgame. Commentators will say it's just how it is at high level, mindgames simply wouldn't work, everyone there is an absolute god gamer and could read you like a book. Actually what's going on is mindgames are completely ineffective because everyone knows exactly where you are at all times and preswinging around corners or beelining it to survivors on the other ass-end of the map trying to break a 3-gen aren't exactly rare occurences. Plus it has it's own ruleset, so you have precisely 0 reasons to watch if you just like DBD. Tournaments are MASSIVELY viewbotted with largely dead chats as well, or at least they were when I was around.
In general, DBD is marred with the fact that Killer is Defense, Survivors are Offense, but Offense wins by default if Defense isn't proactive and aggressive enough. And at the same time, there's a stealth element to it. A big part of why it's so stressful for the Killer is because 99% of the game runs on them. They provide the variety for survivors with their pick. They are expected to find Survivors across a really big map. There's no letting the action come to them. Survivors have to move, eventually, but really if you just want to hide in a locker for ten years you can pretty much just do that. It would be hard to build a competitive game around this, you'd probably need to implement a time limit for survivors. I think banning perks and shit was a pretty ineffective solution, on top of being a bitch move.
Somehow DBD lucks out by having an audience of dumbasses who can't tell the difference. Commentators will often play up how skillful the competitors are and massively laugh off any accusations of cheating... Because yes, it is just THAT widespread and they need to keep that gravy train rolling.
Anyway, hilarious that handmaidens wanted troons at a female only tournament. They'd get squashed! Reminds me of that "Women in speedrunning" thing Speedrun.com did and the cis chicks were totally unremarkable and average at best and the troons were all cracked WR holders. Like dude, shit already exposes everything you could have possibly said about it first thing, you can't even top it, it's far more eloquent and convincing than any argument you could have made about men competing with women in most environments.
