One of these fucks will run you $6 or so. If you want anything approaching an actually decent meal, you're into the $18-$20 range a person, minimum, just for the base meal, add on another $5 for beverages.

A lot of my friends can't really actually afford to keep up with the regular office drink nights, or the starbucks trends and other such things, but don't want to be seen as poor and do it anyway. In particular, wages haven't kept up with the crash of the canadian dollar when oil prices tanked, so while our average salaries are in line 1CAD-1USD to the US market in most cases, the CAD went from being worth ~0.95USD to being worth less than $0.75USD at all times, and its steadily approaching that $0.70 line.

So our housing market is insane because of infinity jeets and rich chinks, our general cost of living is already higher than the US just on the basis of how spread out the country is, services are understandably more expensive to provide in that case, and we're effectively paid one third of our US counteparts, while paying one third more on average for most goods.
