Science Scientists say you weren't Kangz and shiet.

The first ever genetic analysis of mummies found that ancient Egyptian kings were more closely related to West Asians than Africans, according to a study published Tuesday by scientists at the Max Planck Institute.

The research found that ancient Egyptians were most closely related to Neolithic Levantine, Anatolian and European populations. The mummies tested did not share strong genetic links to Africa often found in modern Egyptians.

“This suggests that an increase in Sub-Saharan African gene flow into Egypt occurred within the last 1,500 years,” Wolfgang Haak, who led the research team, said in a statement.

“The genetics of the Abusir el-Meleq community did not undergo any major shifts during the 1,300 year timespan we studied, suggesting that the population remained genetically relatively unaffected by foreign conquest and rule,” Haak said.

It’s further evidence that ancient Egyptians were genetically different than modern day residents. Scientists largely agree that ancient Egyptians were indigenous to the Nile area, but a vocal minority of “Afrocentric” scholars claim that the area’s ancient population was entirely African.

Those scholars claim ancient Egyptians were similar to Sub-Saharan African cultures, arguing that famous Egyptian rulers, including Tutankhamun and Cleopatra, were more African than Caucasian.

Researchers analyzed ancient DNA from mummified Egyptians who lived from 1400 B.C. to 400 A.D., establishing that mummies can be a reliable source for genetic material to study the ancient past.

The study could open the door to further genetic testing of mummified remains. More than 151 individual mummies were examined during the research. Scientists recovered mitochondrial genomes from 90 individuals and genome-wide data sets from three individuals.

Never understood why dindus want so bad to be Egyptia-kin when West Africa had their own kingdoms such as the Mali Empire and Benin Empire. They made wonderful works of copper sculpture and best of all didn't fuck their siblings

They want to be Egypt because rather than carving out their own niche as the successors to the old cultures of West Africa, they decided to steal the Egyptians culture and use that instead, because everyone recognises the Sphinx and the Pyramids.

Almost sounds like cultural appropriation to me, but what do I know, I'm some Melanin deprived non Kang.

Oh no I agree but unless your family keeps records themselves or they are lucky and can trace them back to surviving ones after 150 years it get's hard and kinda meaningless unless your family has undergone some serious changes in that time frame or just before - I mean you can kinda work out the region your family's where from in that time period through DNA but Africa has always had a weird mix of tribes that have interbred so the best thing you can hope for unless you are really lucky is oh they came from somewhere in Uganda on my mother's side and Rwanda on my Dad's, the DNA sampling we have are not yet defined well enough to give you any serious phenotyping at that level yet, we are not far off but still not at that level.

Think how much being irish or italian means to the people, yea they are "white" people but have completely different cultures and values. Black people dont have that, even if you could pinpoint, your ancestor came from this village 200 years ago, it would be meaningless. Culture has to be learned, and it can be forgotton.

I mean we can translate ancient egyptian but we dont really get it, we dont get the context. We know sheep means it rained. Thats about as well as blacks are ever gonna know of their kangz.

So yes you are a gimmick account? Just say yes then.
He's a Destiny white knight. He first posted and showed up around page 8 of that thread.

Something tells me that /pol/ is having a field day and will be filled with nothing but "U WUZNT KANGZ" shitposting for the next couple of days

Bro, nobody here is claiming racial supremacy for bringing up facts and genetics. Point is, it doesn't fucking matter where your ancestors came from because it has no bearing on your character. Blacks who claim 'We wuz kangz' are just as false as some hillbilly talking about how he's 'a pure aryan'. They're both special snowflake ethnic identities not based in reality. Like @AnOminous said, West Africans had their own precolonial empires and civilizations. Don't you think it'd do black folk more good to stop wasting their time trying to appropriate the culture of incestuous slave owners and start preserving and studying their own history?

This is one of the biggest problems with Afrocentrism imo. It's less "let's popularize influential and interesting historical black figures" and more "let's claim that influential and interesting historical European/Middle Eastern/Asian/etc figures were really black."

Probably the most infamous example of this is the "black Beethoven" controversy. As this academic site explains:

I think it derives from the vindictive SJW view of society as a zero sum game. They're not satisfied with actually having important historical figures, either to revive their reputation or just to be educational and inspiring, unless they get to take something from someone else. So unless they're getting back at whitey somehow, they're just not happy.

The results are utterly cringy nonsense like the Beethoven thing and WE WUZ KANGS AND SHEEIT.

Careful here! @aidshaver9111 hates listening to harmless simple facts.

I had heard that Tiye (the mother in law bust in the last pic) may have been dark like the bust. However, the hair of her mummy is soft and wavy. It isn't Sub-Saharan hair.

That "afro" on the bust is actually the remains of a pilfered gold headdress. It isn't hair and wasn't meant to be. It's just the foundation of the headdress. You can see similar headdresses that are still intact on other sculptures. Tiye's natural hair color was auburn. A lot of mummies that were buried still possessing their natural hair have soft, smooth, auburn hair. Tiye's father Yuya was thought to be a foreigner due to his name and unusual features. He may have come from what is now modern Syria. Nefertiti's father may have been Ay, who would have been the brother of Tiye, therefore he would also be part Syrian. The Egyptian royals liked to keep it in the family. It's not 100% certain that Ay and Tiye are siblings. But it's a pretty good guess considering the privilege family members of the beloved Tiye had. Tiye's mother Thuya was probably a native Egyptian. That kind of closes the book on what Tutankamun probably looked like right there. Native Egyptian with a little Syrian. In other words, not black. They've reconstructed his face but some people are very unhappy that he doesn't look like a Sub-Saharan.

Akhenaten was a weirdo. All of the exaggerated art from the Amarna period was his idea. He may have suffered from some sort of illness that deformed him somewhat. But no mummy has ever been found so we just don't know. However, unless his father Amenhotep III looked like Lebron James it's unlikely any of he and Tiye's children did either. In other words, they waznt kaingz.

black hair fades out after death into a sort of dark, dirty maroon tone, auburn. they had black hair in life, but light damage and time have caused that shift to auburn.

black or very dark brown hair. I thought I'd read also that they used henna to dye up as well.

Why co-opt Egyptian kings when you have some pretty badass ones already?

Like @AnOminous said, there's Mansa Musa, who was so goddamn wealthy that he destroyed the economies of several countries during his Hajj.

There's Zara Yaqoob Solomonid of Ethiopia, who turned his Coptic tribal country into a powerhouse in West Africa... Ethiopia is also one of the few African countries to resist European colonization...

Shaka Zulu, a man who led a fierce resistance against British occupation.

I could probably scrape together some research for another longpost on this if you guys wanted.
yes please. if you can find out who that warrior queen was I'd be grateful. she took power by killing the king and taking over, as best I can remember, and then proceeded to bash the shit out of everyone and run the region for a good long time. it'd be sub Saharan history.

I'm not great at anything but medical history research so I'd be grateful for a good long post on this.

Despite the overwhelming evidence to the contrary, a lot of Afrocentrists are still desperate to claim Beethoven as their own. They embarrass themselves by making outlandish claims about Beethoven's ethnicity when they should be focusing on classical musicians who were actually black. The paragraph I just posted mentioned George Bridgetower, an Afro-European violinist who worked with Beethoven. Why not focus on him?
A celebrated half-black composer at the time of Mozart was Chevalier de Saint-Georges, who was also a military colonel and a expert fencer. He was welcome to all the great courts in Europe despite his skin. It was true that he couldn't marry a white woman, but that didn't stop long lines of women lining outside his bedroom.

His story shows that, even in the 18th century, you could rise to the highest echelon of European society despite your skin color -- provided you're good.

You think any of these people are aware of the existence of West African empires? If there's ever an argument for needing to teach more about medieval sub-Saharan history it's the fact that not doing so leads to a bunch of poorly educated morons thinking Egypt was the only kingdom to ever grace the African continent.

The few times I've confronted this we wuz kangz shit IRL the minute I talk about Mansa Musa or Askia their eyes glaze over and I get treated to choruses of "man I never heard of that shit so what does it matter".
