General Wrestling Discussion

Remember when promoters convinced us that wrestlers were dangerous carnie types (because they actually were) who would unsettle even grown adults with their gimmicks? Now we have "wrestlers" (also a failed MMA fighter and comic book writer) oversharing about their dead pooches on social media.
Remember when a wrestler had his pet snake killed and he was all sad about it?

Or when a pair of wrestlers had their pet dog stolen from them?

2024 really sucked for--what do you mean this happened in the 80s?

Yeah, and things were so much better in the golden age of the late 90s early 2000s. They'd never do anything silly like have a third-generation wrestler from a prestigious lucha family pretend a broomstick horse was real and become distraught when his rival put it through a wood chipper. And you absolutely definitely wouldn't see a wrestler steal his opponent's pet chihuahua, grind it up, cook it, and trick him into eating it.

I mean, I get the point that is being made, but pro wrestling has been so silly and camp for so long that does it really fucking matter if fans get a peek into their personal lives (even if they are stupid/lame as all hell?)

I'm also sick of all the soap opera shit in current wrestling. Like the time that the top guy turned his back on his friend for making eyes at his woman. Or when another guy drugged and married the boss' daughter so he could take over the company.

I never understood why, when doing promos in front of the audience, the heels and faces now always have to be in the ring together.
When one was in the ring and the other was under the Tron onstage, it boosted the illusion these two hate each other and cannot be close lest a brawl break out.
Saying you're gonna kick someone's ass loses a lot of impact when he's 3 feet in front of you and there's no one to stop you, yet you do nothing but smile snarkily and drop the mic.

Incidentally, why did they stop doing backstage promo interviews?
2/3 of the Rock's best work was when he was being interviewed backstage by Cole/Lillian/Coach/that hermaphrodite Kevin Kelly.
Backstage promos are another thing we need to bring back from the past, along with interviewers that actually have a personality beyond being pretty and asking basic questions.

I don't understand the people who pay these girls, this is Mandy, Dana Brooke and former MMA girl Paige Van Zant. This isn't hot or funny or entertaining.

Reminder that Mandy was fired because she wouldn't stop showing her asshole on onlyfans (or some other site like it) while she was the 400+ day reigning NXT Women's Champion.

Some indie promotion made a video on how fans can help their local Planned Parenthood facilities.

Insert joke on how wrestling fans are fat, ugly, and no one would have sex with them.

I mean, if you could make a million dollars showing your asshole or $500k falling on your head, which would you pick?

Oh, I don't blame her for the career change, but it's funny because she was baffled that WWE would frown on that sort of thing while she's supposed to be representing the company as one its champions in the middle of a big push.

I know you're joking but a lot of fans just don't understand that the only reason wrestling got big in the first place was because of the soap operas.

My dad told me that my great grandfather got into wrestling because of Gorgeous George. A guy who was MEANT for soap operas. (He was kind of a proto nature boy)

it’s literally true, a lot of the IWC are the fattest, ugliest, retarded, and most socially inept assholes imaginable, when I feel bad about myself i search WWE on twitter and feel better about myself knowing i’m not any of the posters there
