I am actually only half joking too, the US could honestly use better passenger train systems that can function as a backup to air/car travel. Now I am not saying we need passenger trains on every freight line they can be given seporate lines, but it would be a good backup just in case air travel becomes impossible, because even though trains are a lot slower than planes you can put more people on a train.

I wish this issue wasn't so partisan coded. We should have trains for the distances that other people in civilized places have trains for. People talk about the size of the US as if that's an obstacle as if coast to coast travel is the normal long distance travel, it's completely retarded. I don't want to take a train from LA to NY, I don't even want to take a train from LA to Houston really, but yes I want to take a train from SF to Seattle. I mean I don't actually want to be in either SF or Seattle but you get the point.
