May 2014 Ebay stuff: Plane Models and violin rescued from the hoard?

I like how he describes the models:
The WWII plane: "Box is minorly burnt; all parts, instructions and decals are in great to mint condition." Uh, "minorly burnt" and "mint condition" are pretty much a contradiction in terms.

I noticed he does have perfect feedback, though. Maybe that counts for something?

Someone should ask him if he has the medallion, and ask him if he's willing to sell it.

Lets hope its not covered in shit since BlueSpike told him to stick it up his asshole. Second, to be honest, I hope it was burned in the fire too because I don't see why anyone would want his medallion; especially the possibility that it may smell like ass. >.>

Maybe he means the contents of the box are in perfect condition. But considering the damage to the box, how could he know that for sure without examining them?

He would be lucky to get $1 for all of the fire damaged model plane kits he has for sale on Ebay. In the condition they are in, they are nearly worthless. The Violin though looks shockingly not fire damaged. I wonder if it was in Bob's shed. I hope Chris tries to sell more fire damaged junk from the hoard on Ebay at high prices.. It is pretty entertaining:lol::alog:

Relic stradivarius, eh? Well, with today's economy...

"But you know then I'm going to have to get it authenticated, it'll sit in my shop for a few years...I can give ya $4."

I know haturbating on Chris and Barb is fun, but there's a chance that Bob played the violin given how much he loved music.
If it's Bob's violin then it's possible it's a good one, and the sky's almost the limit for good violin prices. Even then it's probably not in good shape for neglect and fire and will need some TLC to put it right.

Since Chris called it an "Antonio Stradiuarius Copy Faciebat Anno 1721 Violin/Fiddle" (Seriously, "fiddle"? Fuck you, Chris.), I think it's more likely a cheap $200-$300 (new) schoolkid starter violin that Barb picked up at Goodwill like the valuable Dali print. "Chrissun! Quick! Git mawmaw that there fiddle. I dun herd about these Straddyvoobeeyus fiddles on the teevee. Theys worth more than rare Dali prints."

If you do a search for "Stradivaruis copy" on fiddledeals.com you'll find dozens of violins with the same label for around $100 each.

That medallion--the second one, after the first one was obtained by trolls--was cut up before Chris put it in his ass. The one he wore after that point was a different one.

...I wish I didn't remember this.

I bet Barb found the violin in a thrift shop and thought it was worth something because it was a Stradivarius copy.
I've been playing cello for almost my whole life so I have a pretty decent understanding of what work this violin will need. Here's a list. The things in italics are things that MUST be done, and the others are possibilities:

The bow needs re-hairing. BADLY. I can't tell from the photo if the bow is wound or unwound, but either way it's too damaged at the base to be used for playing at all. It has to be re-haired to make a sound. That will set you back about $50, perhaps more depending on the quality of the materials. It's possible the bow will need replacing completely if it's cracked or splintered. That can set you back anywhere from $50-150.

If the bow is in such poor condition, the strings will definitely need replacing too. If you want quality strings you're looking at 30-60 dollars per string. Even if the violin hasn't been used at all, it's a copy so the strings are going to be cheep steel and will need to be replaced if you don't want the violin to sound like a lamb being slaughtered.

I can see the bridge has shifted. If it's cracked or damaged it will need to be replaced, but that's cheap and easy to do, a new bridge would probably be under $20 and you can often get them placed for free. In any case, the bridge will need to be shifted back into position. Most string players can do that for themselves if they're not novices.

The pegs would also need to be checked. If the fire head has melted or warped the tuning pegs they will need replacing or fixing too. I'm not sure what that would cost because I've never needed to replace pegs, but I estimate it would cost around $20-50.
ETA: I just looked at the photos with zoom and three of the four tuning pegs down the bottom are completely missing, so that would be $20-$50 to replace those pegs. Although you could theoretically tune the violin using just the top pegs, the bottom ones are for fine tuning and it would be extremely difficult to get the violin exactly in tune without them, especially without perfect pitch or an electronic tuner.

Then there is the possibility of the body being damaged. If the violin was in the same room as the fire, even if it didn't get burned that is going to irreparably change the sound the violin makes. String instruments are incredibly sensitive to heat and cold. I know my cello can go way out of tune in just a matter of a few hours when it's a hot (over 100f/36c) day so I can't even imagine what that violin sounds like. If Chris is lucky, there's no melting, cracking or warping to the instrument from heat, although all are distinct possibilities. Those things can technically be fixed, but by the time you've fixed the bow, the strings and the body you would have paid well over the $200 he asked and could have yourself a brand new $500 violin.

It is incredibly irresponsible of him to sell models that have been opened as factory sealed. It's ridiculous that he doesn't mention the obvious water damage to the boxes. However, even if he were asking a reasonable price for the violin (and even if, pre-fire, the violin had been assessed as being worth $200) it is damn near criminal to not tell anyone that violin survived a house fire. It is essential to a musician to know that and they may well end up with an instrument that is completely useless to them and needs to be thrown away.

Did you expect better explanations and photos out of Chris? eBay is lucky to have seen any at all, especially considering how difficult it is to take decent photographs.

I must say I laughed when I saw how much this image resembled this one.

God, no. I was pleasantly surprised he actually acknowledged the bow needed to be re-haired. To be fair though, a lot of the issues I've brought up are things Chris has no way of knowing, like the bridge shifting or the heat potentially ruining the instrument, or the strings being cheap and nasty. He definitely should have mentioned the pegs missing down the bottom, but he probably has no idea what they're for.

And that photo of him holding the violin by the neck totally reminded me of his gitar of fail pic too, LOL.

As I mentioned previously, if Chris was being reasonable and not lazy in arranging these sales, he'd have made an effort to research the violin and its parts before writing the description up and beginning the auction.

Christian Weston Chandler's Adult Chronicles: Violin Hero.

I'm in.

Many older models have been re-released lately because the cost of licensing new models and creating the molds is very high. The car models especially; much of the lineups for Revell Monogram and AMT Ertl are kits from the 1970's and 80's. Sometimes they update them or add new features like modern wheels or decals, but often it is the model as it was the first time around.

The Lindberg Curtis Jenny in a new re-release box is $14 and the Airfix Clipper is available for as little as $10, but it looks like the Curtiss Goshawk and the Mustang/B17 combo might actually be worth the asking price, if they are in good condition. The condition of the plastic is key; copies of instructions can be found other places, or the model could even be built without them, and there is a healthy aftermarket for aviation and military decals. The 'armor' modelers are crazy, buying several different kits to swap in certain parts, buying resin or photo etched metal upgrades, or entire books for one or two pictures of the specific real vehicle they are replicating. Real rivet-counter stuff.

Chris will never be reasonable and will never do research, though. If Chris were reasonable, this forum probably wouldn't exist.

Violin Hero would be bad fucking ass. I prefer cellos to violins but I'd still totally play that. Clacking away on plastic strings, playing Beethoven on Expert... not sure Chris could cope with the strain of standing AND holding something to his shoulder, though. He'd be better suited to Cello Hero where you have to sit your ass down to clack away at the same 5 notes over and over for Pachebel's Canon on expert. My idea of hell is having to play Pachebel's canon for eternity on the cello.

Would the heat of the house fire warp those models even if the flames didn't come near them?
I don't think there was any blowout, so it didn't burn that ridiculously hot.

Indeed, there are possibilities to make money on things like this for Chris. But with all the damage they've sustained, no one can be sure.

The only way he could get something for it is if someone wanted it for the fact that it was an actual CHRISTIAN artifact. ;)

I thought he made another medallion?

Yeah, seriously. Chris is being a huge dickhead. Troll or not, the price is on the fucking box, the buyer isn't pulling it out of his ass.

Heh, or rather, Chris is using troll as a verb here. So maybe trolling is Chris' word for "myehhh, being mean to me!!!"

Trolling is any moment where Chris feels anything less then perfect bliss and euphoria.

I think the final song needs to be this.

If only Chris could persuade Cole to join forces with him, they'd be an unstoppable eBay force.
$500 for an Airfix Stradivarius AND the chance to buy craft beer for the World's Smartest Film Critic. NO HAGGLE.
Who wouldn't want that?
