Not sure if anyone else here has ever volunteered their time at a food bank or not, but it's extremely depressing. I did it once and swore off of """charity""" ever since.
The majority of it is junk food. A lot of times you separate out canned vegetables, fruit and other staples like plain rice because the "hungry" people won't take those. The only other stuff you really separate is single mother stuff, formula, diapers and the like. The majority of the people getting the food are overweight/obese and really don't need the food. They could probably survive for a month without eating honestly. A minority (like 10-20%) grab the healthy stuff.
Most of the others that were "volunteering" with me were also fat and they could take their pick of what was left over. They also ordered pizza. I think there was like 30ish people there with me. For 30 people they ordered 10 extra large pizzas + soda + sides like chicken wings, garlic bread, etc.
I hate fat people so much. I miss r/fatpeoplehate
