I remember it like it was yesterday, my coworkers' increasing worry and shock on election night then going into college classes the next morning and seeing a guy in the quad break down screaming 'THE ELECTORAL COLLEGE IS SO STUPID!' I didn't even vote for Trump the first time and felt more bemused than anything, then promptly tuned back out of politics until 2018ish when leftist insanity had become increasingly harder to ignore.

the next issue was communism. The post war years were all gay ops with the soviets.

Facism really is a tight alignment between the state, the people, companies. For italy it was the party and the poeple. for the germans it was the "people" american facism just wont work were too big and too diverse even amoung the white people.

I had a teacher from back east explain how growing up in new england kids would play partiot and red coat.

I was in college. Right after it happened, students charged up and down the halls screaming denial, but it went eerily quiet not long after. The next morning, the professor let us all go early. She was visibly in shock. The posters went up: Donald Trump did not win the election because he didn't get the popular vote! I had a good laugh about that when I saw he did get it this time.

I didn't say anything of the sort, I said there was a perception that society now had to be as thoroughly "anti nazi" as possible in case it "happened again".
The anti-communism was partisan and there were just as many die-hard USSR simps in the West post 1945 as there were McCarthyists

I experienced the exact opposite, trump winning the election was just seen as another day in the local community college, but I was taking classes in a southern college because it was cheaper at the time.

That was so satisfying to watch. Notice the complete change in behavior, too. Guy went from intimidating bully picking on a shorter, fatter guy and refusing to get out of his face to a punk ass saying "I'm done" in the gutter.
Gets sent on a spirit journey by this dude's fists, and the little twat harpy, who I can only assume is the guy's bird is the only one still screeching and trying act tough. He got up and started acting REAL mellow after that after hours whooping. He was only half-heartedly in the guys face at that point, and instead of wanting to be physical now he just wanted to debate.
The most heartwarming part of this video is that the right person was arrested for a fucking change.

Every political party has it's old guard and it's new guard, factions, coalitions, etc. Every political party goes through life cycles. It makes perfect sense that the younger generations are starting to challenge the existing parties. It's happening in the Dems with the unhinged progressives, but it's also simultaneously happening with the Republicans with the MAGA insurgency challenging the NeoCons and the establishment UniParty types.

The problem is that (as you were saying) the new Dem insurgency is so radical left that it can't appeal to anybody but the radical base or die hard Dems. MAGA has so much more mainstream appeal. It makes no sense for Chuck to keep holding on to power. He's going to get stomped by both Trump and the radicals in his own party. If he had more brains and less ego, he'd realize it's not worth it and walk away.

It can actually be a little more cynical than that.

A few users, like Fatpacks, like to imply that the board as a whole is one big mass of MAGA shit, but the actual coalition that represents Trump's base is incredibly diverse because it's not really unified by ideological adherence the way the more dogmatic leftists now are. Just going through our own users, you get a sample-pack of just how fucking weird it is to see in action: You have oldschool conservatives from military families and the younger rabble-rousers with establishment BS. You have dejected former democrats, your errant /pol/tard that seems to genuinely believe that Jews stole their goldfish crackers (or at least are willing to pretend such for the sake of the joke), libertarians that actually realized their own party is a bigger joke than the thread's ongoing use of Captain Planet memes, and so on.

All these groups constantly shitpost at one another, as is proper, and there's plenty of disagreement on what the best solution to given issues are, but these groups can all find common cause because at the end of the day, what these groups all care about is more or less on the same page and how we go about getting that done is where the difference lies. The aforementioned shitposting helps ground everyone involved. It's why we need our contrarian class around here, even though a lot of users understandably find that frustrating.

On the left, due to constriction of ideology, you don't see that. You used to, but because the left chased off so many of its own as it lurched towards the fringe, the overwhelming majority of their ideological adherents fucked off for greener pastures. Historically, what used to happen is that the oldsters would filter out, the new blood would filter in, and it would result in a constant churn, but because the left now values ideological purity so highly, their ideological core are basically the lefty equivalent of the Moral Majority clowns - and unlike in 2008, where the MM basically got thoroughly discredited and forced a course correction for the American right, the ideological adherence for modern leftists and the cynical way that the establishment tried to use the modern left effectively mean that there can be no course correction - any potential push in the right direction for the American left as it is now is going to take years to filter in.

yes this. I wrote something about this in another thread. It's a long dumb history. But part of the big soup of bullshit that led to today. was marxists realizing they would have to use race, and gender theory to indoctrinate americans with communist ideals. With the eventual results being intersectional politics. Because diving just on class didn't work in amercia.

So the way they did it was by essentially infiltrating the education system. And taking things over from there.

Even though I'm somewhat of a free-speech sperg. I think Mcarthy was actually probably based, and correct. Funny how one of the things they clearly teach about in school is how bad the hysteria of "McCarthyism" was. When really we should have been watching out for these people all along in my opinion.

That being said, I have been hit in the face a couple of times before, and I'm of the opinion that if you're going to get embarrassingly rocked like that, you might as well just gain your composure and try to at least get a couple licks in and let the dude either knock you out, or fight until the ICE agents pull you apart.

On electoral reform (ranked voting vs first-past-the-post) from yours truly- and how Mamdani and Murkowski benefit from ranked voting.

It seems that ranked voting works only in an environment where parties are less prominent (I.e. at the municipal level), or where everyone is a Democrat and voting is becomes more like choosing your brand of milk.

For nearly a decade at that point, the Left had been fed a steady diet of, "We're the right side of history, the arc of history bends towards us! We're the good guys, we've always won!" Hillary's coronation was supposed to be the culmination of that belief. When the God-Emperor assumed the throne, their faith was badly shaken. After all, wasn't the arc of history supposed to bend their way? Ever since 2016, they've been on a crusade to force the arc of history back onto its "proper" course.
 
The few federal workers I've talked to aren't even mad about the shutdown right now lol they view it as an extended vacation that they think they'll still get paid for.

All I needed to know to oppose ranked choice voting was that one day a few years ago it suddenly became a libertarian cause.

Anything libertarians are quickly memed into supporting is something that thwarts the public will and empowers the "donor class"—the only supporters of Mamdani, Murkowsky, et al., candidates with almost no voter constituency, but if you make voting into a certain kind of trick question, it can be arranged that they win.

Also, nerds like ranked choice because there are more numbers in it, and nerds are suckers, so you know it's a scam.

Added:

The voters getting what they deserve by failing to perfectly game an intentionally obscured process is an emotional appeal to nerds and libertarians. It's the best way to sell them a policy. Evil fucks.
