/r/TNOmod and the Reddit HOI4 modding community - When a subreddit for a video game mod turns to utter insanity

Lolcows can imply both a category and a plural form, and TNO would fit the latter.
Well, we got the Community label.

are you now able to get schwab or will it get updated later?
I pushed him to the git a few days ago. He's playable, though you will have to wait until 1980 and one of his focuses will be broken since I haven't added sino japanese war yet.
Someone's posting Russian TFR teasers, normally behind a paywall, on Telegram. Looks like a good number of unreleased teasers, but I for one can't seem to get higher res versions of them to open up if they even exist.
The only thing more retarded then charging money for focus tree pictures is paying for them.

Maybe... we were the real lolcows this whole time! The horror!

Since community watch no long exists and this thread has merged into Lolcows, has TNO been manifested into being a real actual lolcow person?
Well, seen as the thread is about the HOI4 modding community (with TNO being the main part of it), the focus is clearly on HOI4 which makes Paradox the lolcow. Which is certainly true with them continuously fucking up their new games (Imperator Rome, Vic3 and City Skylines 2 just to name a few) + DLCs (most notably graveyard of empires).

Telegram compresses images hard unless you attach them as files, which whoever did this didn't, there's a few duplicates as well. There's a bunch of tryhard schizo stuff like cyber-orthodoxy, Khodorkovsky mafia state and Svetov building Rapture from Bioshock. Saving them here just in case.

Further worth noting that many of the lolcows covered as part of the HoI4 modding drama are now working at Paradox.

DLCs (most notably graveyard of empires).
Speaking of, anyone else been keeping an eye on the clusterfuck that is the new Expansion Pass? They're releasing a Czech country pack that appears to be a direct collab with modders. No idea on the price yet, but I am sure they'll be expecting $8-10 dollars for what should essentially be a free mod. It's like Trial Of Allegiance vs. that Libertad mod all over again.

The Paradox sales team has to be high off of something if they believe that people are gonna buy that. Almost all country packs have underperformed and gotten pretty poor reviews, with Gotterdamnerung basically being the thing that restored hope in the future of Hoi4. They've gotten greedy and lazy with DLCs that don't even cover all the countries they should (the SEA one for example has no content for Malaysia)

Yeah, the entire expansion pass thing is a fucking mess. Esp bc Paradox has basically decided to move features from the main DLC over to the graveyard of empires equivalent for that pack so ppl basically have to buy both to get what would have been in the original DLC. (The headquarters thing). As per the steam page the additional minor features are basically individual command powers and the possibility of promoting ship captains into naval commanders (same thing that was added in a previous DLC for generals).

Oh, and don't get me started on how Paradox is including DLCs into the base game. And yes, I am one of those ppl who have paid for all the previous DLCs so I am pissed off with Man the Guns also being included in the base game. Esp bc part of the reason I paid for it was bc of the focus trees (at the time); and now I am forced to pay for them again, only for ppl to be like "well you paid for early access" and like no. It was not advertised as early access. I was relatively pissed with the previous set of DLCs being integrated but now? Yeah, the precedent is that everything bought can be made integrated into the base game. When in the past, the precedent with Hoi4 is that focus trees would be retroactively updated, as with Death or Dishonour being updated with the greek, Turkish and Bulgarian DLC and with the Together for Victory ones being updated at one point (such as with the Canadian tree being fixed).

And what is the stuff being included to replace Man The Guns?

  • Additional supporting features and quality-of-life updates, such as new Naval Special Projects and updates to Naval Combat with improved carrier mechanics.
Aka, stuff going into Gottar-however-the=fuck-you-spell it (but you've got to buy it again, even though that was the special project focused DLC with wonderwaffen) and is basically the reason why Man the Guns is being included.

Oh, and let's face it. La Resistance is probably also going to be included whenever Paradox decides France rework time. Probably going to be done as they are doing the Czechs. One, small little DLC. And then continue to do that over and over again.

And finally to return to the modding thing. Why would I pay for a DLC made by modders, when modders have made mods that can do the same thing?

And the best part? Either Stellaris (and let's be real, Stellaris 2 is probably not going to happen) or HOI4 is next on the chopping block in remake-vil. Which, HOI4 is Paradox's last major game to be released to not be built on Imperator's engine (that game only existed for the sake of developing that engine btw). And with it coming up to a decade, it doesn't have long left.

(that game only existed for the sake of developing that engine btw)
Imperator still used the Clausewitz Engine, Paradox just pulled a Bethesda and modernized it into Jomini. Jomini directly built off some of what Paradox did in HoI4 with its under-the-hood modding utility, btw, I hated trying to use it when jumping directly from my experience in EU4.

Besides, Imperator existed because Johan is fundamentally an autist, not because he wanted a mechanical proof-of-concept. A game that exists just to do that looks like Sengoku or March of the Eagles.

I think this is the most egregious part to me, locking a feature update behind a minor country pack (who the fuck cares about Siam?). I am sure that PDX's excuse for this is to 'add value' to the country pack after the shambles that was Graveyard Of Empires. It's a bullshit excuse and just a reason for them to slap that $14.99 pricetag on another undercooked DLC. If they really wanted to start to win some goodwill back, these country packs would be about $4-5 and the features would be a free update.

Their greed is just spiraling at this point. I've paid for the the rest of the DLC's (well apart from Trial of Allegiance and Graveyard of Empires as I want them nowhere near my game) but from now on I will I think I will be sailing the high seas if they ever release another DLC that piques my interest.

Either Stellaris (and let's be real, Stellaris 2 is probably not going to happen)

Don't even get me started on how they have managed to rape the corpse of Stellaris for this long. It used to be one of my favorite PDX games, I have maybe 1k hours in it, but I haven't touched it in 2 years. Every 'update' breaks the game in some serious way and makes the end-game even worse. If you think 1945-7 HOI4 runs bad, try endgame Stellaris, it is absolutely dire, basically unplayable.
