I see internationalizing the site as a way to grow horizontally and I want to encourage it. I'll be picking some moderators that speak other languages to help facilitate this. I'm not sure what else I can do to encourage growth this way though; it has never picked up steam despite my efforts in 7+ years.
For anyone curious about this, Null posted asking about hiring a moderator that spoke Spanish.
I posted the original post in the Spanish discussion thread a few weeks back, and some people grew interest in helping.

Some people (including in the main discussion thread about hiring a Spanish moderator) wanted to ask @LinkinParkxNaruto[AMV] to become a moderator, considering his high post count and his years of being on the site, including being a thread regular. He ended up declining, citing that his mental health isn't the greatest and that becoming a moderator is a "speedrun in getting the community to hate you".

Despite this, people were asking about the job of being a moderator, and people wanted to help, including @GreaterHacaryguaspear who offered to help janny. This also included @TreatedSilk04, who offered to help translate some of the existing Spanish OPs to English OPs, to help garner interest about the Internationale Clique board and to help gain an understanding to English speaking audiences.

Some of the regulars also agreed on doing a poll:
Very wholesome stuff. Also, a fun fact, @Sparky Lurker holds a monopoly on the Lolcows Lusofonia board, making up 93% (58/62) of all Portuguese lolcow threads. He actually still updates them to this day, and I think his work is pretty underrated if you are looking into Portuguese lolcows, he makes fantastic threads.

International Clique

Get the mods to go out and shill the site in foreign-language lolcow discussion spots. You could also get them to write threads specifically about these foreign lolcow discussion spots. If threads like the sharty's can tell us anything, it's that users of a site will sign up here to chat if we start talking about their site, and some percentage of them will stick around if there's a good enough reason to.

I have logged in and looked at threads only about communities before...

About international clique: you can't really force more interaction in any way, it grows organically. And since this is mostly an english speaking site, most users would be more interested in english speaking lolcows. Personally, I haven't really checked that subforum in search of Mustafa the one-legged goatfucker from Turkey or something on those lines.

it would be interesting to see off-topic featured as the first subboard on the forum's home page list

Unfortunately I think part of the lack of growth is that an awful lot of people are, to put it delicately, fucking morons and can't be assed to learn how to use the site.
Yeah, there was an influx of pink join dates earlier this year when 4ch was hacked, and I remember a bunch of them made threads that already existed. They would be told this and redirected to the existing threads, but then never seen again, leading me to suspect they didn't know how to use the search function. Granted a lot probably left when 4ch came back online, but this was before then.

To be fair though, unlike the Drachenlord thread, I don't think these parts of the site have gotten a community feature that hit the front page.

A great example of this is Espartaco. Basically, he's a former Lets Player YouTuber & Redpill gamer in Spanish circles, more info about him here. He has a very extended history, but to sum it up, he was laughed at for his talk about gender, he had a relationship with a minor, he got catfished which led to him being doxed (which people then harassed his mother & neighbors), which he then closed his YouTube channel. After another interview, he justified having ERP sessions with a 13 year old. He also got lynched in public which caused him to move states.

If stuff like that was featured on the frontpage, it could bring attraction to the Spanish lolcow threads on the site. There's also a huge thread on Dross, which is one of the biggest Spanish speaking YouTubers out there. He's basically a Spanish version of Maddox as the OP put it. His thread might need a rewrite as @Sandwichu has gone inactive and can't update the OP with some of the new drama.
