Just because you've been on the internet all your life, doesn't mean there isn't a scam that can get you to part with your money.
I have recently just worked out a scam that has been pitched to me for years via my chat apps (which are connected to my day-light phone, which in turn is in multiple scam databases).
I would like to share the nature of this scam with you.
The pitch is usually made from an avatar of a young, attractive woman who unexpectedly adds you via your phone number. They usually have 2 approaches:
1 Do I know you/how do I have your number?
2 I have a job offer/side hustle/great way to make some cash for you.
1 usually leads into 2.
If you engage with them for any length of time asking about the job, they will be vague and they always say that they want to pass you onto their supervisor, who will explain the particulars.
I never worked this part out. It's either a part of the Q&A/lead process for them internally, or a lame psychology play, where in their Asian minds, you are more likely to succumb to a male person of authority (the second person being usually a male avatar). They may not understand that western males will readily submit to a girl-boss, so there is no need for this charade, but whatever.
Next, they will offer what is often decent looking money for the time out-lay and they will either offer you a test task or a training routine with either money up front to participate or money at the completion of trial task/training. Typically $50. Going forward, they offer $50-200 per hour. You must be 23 or older (why? crypto-trading, age limits maybe? see below) Sounds alright, doesn't it?
I've never gone past this point, having worked out a quick way to short-circuit this scam: ask for $50 in XMR up-front to join their training/trial task. You can do it on first contact, don't wait until the "supervisor" and they immediately fuck off. I guess, if some jeet or slope is desperate enough, you might earn a free $50 in crypto.
If one does proceed, they may actually get their first $50 bucks and if they cash out at that point, they will be ahead monetarily, but not time-wise as the trials take hours. The psychology here seems to be to waste as much of the person's time, to make them want to recoup it, but also bait them by offering real cash.
The job is usually leaving reviews on some bullshit product/travel site/marketing blog and posting proof thereof in group chat.
Going forward, they will make you compete with other people being scammed and then eventually offer you to buy-in into a group-task with penalties if the group fails. Invariably someone does and you lose your money, but fear not, here's another buy-in for an even better deal. Crypto trading may be involved, hense the 23 age limit I guess.
There are probably many variations, but the gist of it is as above.
