I know someone who is paid fantastic sums to evaluate the economic data and present to the major banks the true picture. TBH I’m a little envious as they make in a month what I do in a year or more. They sounded the alarm yesterday with me and said to buckle up. They had completed their analysis of June and July and it was shocking. Ugly. Although we have graphs like this one below appearing in the news they said it’s worse than this. They are expecting the Fed to launch a massive series of cuts in 2025 and that the hope isn’t to get the economy recovering but to attempt to have businesses lower their costs so that the gross margins revert back to normal levels. I.e. to avert stagflation which has started to set in. The lower business costs will result in maintaining margins and not actual expansion.

There is a tremendous fear that bonds issued by the government will be under demand constraints forcing them to provide higher return yields than what can be stomached which may force the Fed to buy them in bulk and reinstate the balance sheet expansion.

Real GDP forecasts are being slashed not by basis points anymore, but by a full Percentage point.

I can tell you that a product I typically sell has orders halved for early 2026. Keep an eye out on sub-prime lenders and junk corporate bonds as signs the bubble is about to burst. The deficit fueled BBB may tie the economy over until mid 2026.
