It's a mess. Patel very desperately wants to come off as composed but does not. He is very clumsy when it comes to navigating around stuff he isn't allowed to talk about, plenty of well-trained FBI guys will talk their way around such questions (kind of like how politicians do) while Patel just stops or stammers or outright says "I can't discuss that."
