It's the same thing we saw during GamerGate, as stupid as it sounds. Early on during that, a loooot of us were still in "neutral" or even lefty spaces (since the left has generally arranged it such that "left" is the "default", mostly by slowly pushing the right out -- see "Neutral vs Conservative, the Eternal Struggle" for a good take on this). Then when the word came down to the hivemind that the Gamers needed to die and be replaced with people more friendly to the party's interests, they flipped on a fucking dime.
