Basically everyone except Morbo forgets the 'mill' part of windmill. They take wind power and turn it into work. They're not
outputting wind, they're taking wind as
input and turning it into work. Mills are devices for crushing and powdering grain. In modern context, the output is electricity, but it's the same general principle.
That said, windmills are still terrible. They're loud
and they produce infrasound, much like data centers, which will ruin the quality of life of anyone living around them. They kill a fuckton of animals every year, and when they fail catastrophically they become whirling dervishes of death and destruction.
To ghoul's point, while before electricity they were at least partly used as aquatic pumpjacks to bring water to the surface and aid irrigation, windmills basically just replaced cows walking in circles while lashed to a quern (which is basically just a manual mill). So really, they've come full circle. They're devices to help cows. So, basically, I guess I'm saying windmills are Indian, and fuck Indians.
