Last time they were in a land war it was vs. Vietnam in the late 70s and they did not acquit themselves well. Its one of those things where they say "Oh yea it'll totally suppress" and then you look at the ammo loadout and realize they can barely fire the thing. Their light, squad level equivalent configuration would run dry within the first minute or two of a firefight even when ammo is effectively conserved. And under more realistic "oh my god they're shooting back" situations it'd be lucky to last even that. Its just a bad weapon platform to replace the light machine gun in an element.

Much of recent history has been the VP's just being, at best, light decorations on a presidency, a toss-in for some interest group.
