The fun thing is, the court is correct in their assessment...if this was trade during the 1990s and pre 2001. Trade now is a matter of the executive's explicit functions and no longer solely in the realm of Congress. Trade and tariffs is now the action of international diplomacy, national security, and ironically exercising congressional law. The President has become more than merely an elected king, and is more akin to Dictator with the amount of power that Congress has left laying about to be taken by one man.

The Courts should not be legislating this issue of the balance of power at all either, and certainly nothing lower than the SCOTUS should be bullshitting about with opinions. Congress should by writing law to return power to their body, but they won't because it suits both sides to keep things as they are for both short and long term.

EXCLUSIVE — Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent says that President Donald Trump may declare a national housing emergency in the coming months.

Since entering office, Trump has declared nine national emergencies, allowing him to expand his executive powers to address issues such as immigration and trade. He also declared a “crime” emergency in August to tackle violent crime in Washington.

Bessent joined the Washington Examiner for an interview and a breakfast on Labor Day at McLean Family Restaurant — the first of his three “diner” stops across the greater Washington metropolitan area on Monday to highlight the “No Tax on Tips” provision included in the One Big Beautiful Bill Act that Trump signed into law on July 4.

The Trump administration hopes to make “affordability” a critical leg of Republicans’ 2026 midterm election platform, and Bessent told the Washington Examiner that housing will be a core focus of that push in the months to come.

“We may declare a national housing emergency in the fall,” he explained.

Bessent said rate cuts from the Federal Reserve would help alleviate skyrocketing post-COVID-19 housing prices but acknowledged that the administration can do more to cut costs and boost supply for homeowners. The treasury secretary declined to list specific actions the president may take, beyond possibly declaring a national emergency, but he suggested that administration officials are directly studying ways to standardize local building and zoning codes and decrease closing costs. Bessent even suggested that Trump may consider some tariff exemptions for certain construction materials.

“We’re trying to figure out what we can do, and we don’t want to step into the business of states, counties, and municipal governments,” he continued, through bites of his omelette. “I think everything is on the table.”

More broadly, Bessent sounded extremely optimistic about the next year’s economic outlook, even as questions remain about how companies may or may not choose to pass down the cost of Trump’s reciprocal tariffs, implemented last month, to American consumers.

“I think we’re going to see a big economic pickup in 2026,” the secretary predicted before gesturing to the restaurant’s owner. “This very, very, very nice young lady here, who’s had this restaurant for 32 years, she’s going to get a large tax refund of the ‘No Tax on Tips.’ So 2026 is going to be a good year.”

In addtion to removing all the illegals as already mentioned there is a few things the government needs to consider. They should provide lower interest loans for people to buy houses if they will live in it and have no house. They should also consider taxing houses and businesses that are unoccupied. New York has a huge number of unoccupied business because if they rented them out at a lower rate it would force a recalculation on the properties actual value. It would be great to see Trump fuck over New York. It would also fuck over the chings buying American houses. He could also consider a seperate lower rate for housing being used as short term rentals.

No. Don't do this. This led to the housing bubble. The interest rate is already fucked with to high heaven and that fucks with every business's ability to ascertain whether people are spending or saving. You know what else we can call this? Relabelling subprime mortgages as AAA.

REALLY don't do this. As a rule of thumb, aiming at someone economically is aiming through a pyramid. There's no way to hit the high levels without shooting through crowds at the bottom. All you'd accomplish is sending the construction industry into a complete tailspin while all the leeches you wanted to target move to some other industry to suck dry.

You really want to address this, the big thing is addressing costs on ownership. Vacant housing units in NYC is obvious given they love flirting with rent control and naked anti-landlord laws. Every time that's happened you end up with the same paradox of high vacancy and high un-housed populations, it makes it unironically far more expensive to actually rent the damn property than to let it lie disused. The real thing that needs addressing is why no one's building starter homes for the demand. A shotgun house plan with 2-bed, 1 bath, kitchen/dining, and living room is pretty dead nowadays and it's because you can't build a cheap home anymore. Blame regulations, don't slap on more. Then all you're doing is government making a problem to solve with itself, and when has THAT ever worked?
