President Trump said he plans to display a portrait focused on former President Biden’s use of autopen in a new “Presidential Wall of Fame” for the Rose Garden.
Trump in an interview with the Daily Caller showed off presidential portraits he is planning for the Rose Garden and was asked whether he would put up a picture of Biden.
“Isn’t that an interesting question,” Trump said. “We put up a picture of the autopen.”
The president showed a reporter for the outlet what the portrait would look like and added, “This is going to be very controversial.”
He then continued to bash Biden, noting his former political rival was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer in May. The diagnosis was “characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone,” according to Biden’s personal office at the time.
“He didn’t win the race. He lost badly,” Trump told the Daily Caller. “He was a horrible president, but can you imagine, he says he has Stage 9 cancer. That was, what? Two, three months ago.”
Trump has repeatedly lambasted Biden over his use of autopen despite using it himself during his time in the White House, though he has maintained he only used it for “very unimportant papers.”
In the Daily Caller interview published Monday, Trump argued Biden should not have used the autopen at all. He also referenced Ian Sams, former special assistant to the president and senior adviser in the White House counsel’s office, who said in a voluntary transcribed interview to a House GOP panel that he had met in person with Biden only twice.
Biden has defended his use of the autopen, telling The New York Times earlier this year he made “every single one of those” decisions and accusing Republicans of lying with claims that he was incapacitated near the end of his presidency and unaware of decisions made on his behalf.
Trump is making other big changes to the White House, following the Rose Garden renovation, including adding a massive $200 million ballroom.
He was asked if he would like to name the ballroom after himself and he replied, “Well, I’m the one that gets to name it.”
“I hate to — I’m putting up my money and donations. You know, there’s no money by the government,” he added.
