Trip Report: tried the canned mackerel last weekend, it was more solid chunks of fish, did not go onto my cheese and crackers as well as the sardines (my preferred sardine delivery method), probably won't do again. But I am looking at some of the other canned fish products in that area of the grocery store to consider branching out.

I'm of the opinion that canned Mackerel is really the closest and only sane alternative to abominations like "chunk-chicken-in-water", which you cannot convince me is a good long-term meal plan. It's definitely the meatiest of the canned fish, next to Salmon.

There needs to be balance where people who truly need assistance get it without feeling ashamed about it, while at the same time, making it clear the benefits are intended to be temporary and there needs to be an effort to better one's self to eventually get off welfare.

temporary has the problem that it still stops at some point, and once you fall through the social net things tend to get very ugly very fast. some people are able to live in their car, most don't, which won't increase their chances to find a job and get out of that whole.
