It wasn't just the malls, but community events and festivals. A number of them in my region of Kiwi Land have shortened their hours or stopped altogether because thugs from the hood manage to get to those communities and cause all sorts of trouble. It's a shame because some of these festivals have been going on for years or even decades but the trouble and violence caused by this minority isn't worth the hassle from the organizing standpoint.
Since it seems like we're on the topic, am I wrong in thinking that the books for EBT, SNAP, food stamps, are just fully cooked?
From the information I've seen the average length of time someone is on govt food assistance is about 6 years, but there's just no fucking way that's the actual average right?
I think welfare benefits are something that went form one extreme to the next over time. In the past, it seems like there was more of a negative stigma attached to welfare even if it meant recipients generally wanted to support themselves and get off welfare ASAP. Now, it seems that once someone gets the benefits, they will never stop receiving it except in extreme situation where the financial situation improves overnight.
There needs to be balance where people who truly need assistance get it without feeling ashamed about it, while at the same time, making it clear the benefits are intended to be temporary and there needs to be an effort to better one's self to eventually get off welfare.
I've also heard there is a welfare cliff where benefits abruptly cease if you make $1 more than the threshold. I'd say a sliding scale is better so to encourage people to work and have the earnings form the job gradually replace the welfare benefits as a way to encourage self sufficient and not just leave them out in the cold again when they hit that drop-off point.
I can attest that there are some “good ones” on food stamps. I volunteered full time with a non profit that was funded through Americorps for a number of years. I only recieved a stipend of 100 bucks a week, and food stamps helped a lot during that time. Real shame it’s abused by joggers to the extent that it is.
It's a shame the good people are in the minority. I agree with whomever previously said that they were okay with you collecting benefits because you were working and using the system the way it was intended to be used.
Meanwhile on the left, Democrats want to replace the property tax with a land value tax where if the government or a big developer thinks that you’re using your land “inefficiently” (i.e. it has a house on it instead of a skyscraper) then they can raise your taxes until you’re forced to sell your home.
I think there is a petition drive ongoing or about to happen to replace the property tax system here. I don't trust the idea one bit and I'd be voting no because I'm pretty sure the alternative will be worse.

This is insanity. Catholic churches are basically built from the ground up to protect the poorest of the poor. If you were genuinely rejected then it was probably a satanic church disguised as a Catholic one. If they were genuine Catholics, they should be fucking excommunicated.
Also, it could have been a splinter group that is Catholic in name only and is not affiliated with the Roman Catholic church in any sort of way. Those tend to have beliefs contrary to the usual Catholic ones, so it wouldn't be surprising if they didn't have a Christian Service ministry for the poor or operated one much more differently than those at typical Catholic churches.
