Some dumbass commented on one of those MSN-sponsored articles that 1500% of 250 is a number like 16. I don't know how he came up with that wildly inaccurate number, but he didn't comprehend the concept that you can increase a number by more than 100%, but 100% of a number is the entire number.

Allow me to translate: They're trying to argue that $250 to $16 is a 1500% reduction because 1500% of 16 is ~250. Obviously this has nothing to do with math, and nobody in their right mind would put it like this, because reducing $250 by 100% could either mean $0 or $125, depending on whether you're using actual percentages or Trump percentages.

What probably happened is this: Someone told Trump that drug XYZ is 1500% more expensive in the US than elsewhere, and since he wants to force drug companies to lower their prices to whatever the cheapest price is globally, and because he doesn't understand percentages, he thinks that this amounts to a 1500% reduction. And now MAGA folks are tying themselves into knots to explain away his lack of basic math skills. It's embarrassing, but in their mind it's less embarrassing than admitting that their god emperor doesn't know what he's talking about.

Those guys in the US Politics 2 thread fantasize about getting rid of every brown person in the country, thinking that having a purely white country will magically make their lives better. Newsflash: they'll just become the new serf caste once the colored folk are gone. He already tried this in his first term, and it failed. So it's not just a distraction he just came up with. His angle is his usual victim narrative. Everyone is ripping off the poor old USA. There's no enforcement mechanism or legal authority behind it though. Essentially he's just sending letters to drug companies saying 'lower prices or else...like nobody has ever seen before...yadda yadda', but the 'or else' part is entirely unclear. Basically he gets to make loud noises to look tough in front of his base, but in reality it's not going to accomplish much, if anything. It's also worth pointing out that drugs only make up about 10% of healthcare spending, and that he's now talking about charging 150%-250% tariffs on pharmaceuticals. It's also worth pointing out that Republicans blocked legislation that would allow Medicare to negotiate drug prices.
