Trump Derangement Syndrome - Orange man bad. Read the OP! (ᴛʜɪs ᴛʜʀᴇᴀᴅ ɪs ʟɪᴋᴇ ᴋɪᴡɪ ғᴀʀᴍs ʀᴇᴠɪᴇᴡs ɴᴏᴡ) 🗿🗿🗿🗿

I always get a little tilted every time I hear that garbage take, “Trump should’ve just been allowed to win in 2020, man.” You think he wouldn’t hang around D.C. playing power broker? Dude would’ve just quietly gone back to slinging steaks and hosting the Apprentice? C'mon.

Perhaps not. I'm only saying he should've cause otherwise had he won and wrapped up his 2nd term in 2020, the left would have nothing to rally against and the other half would fade into obscurity cause anti-trump shit would be passe by now and once the next republican president comes, the left will give him the Bush treatment and say how much they miss him and how he was never mega Hitler 1000.

They're melting down over Colbert getting canceled due to low ratings.

They think it's because he's somehow a threat to Trump and not because nobody watches TV anymore, and that CBS is retiring the Late Show franchise entirely.

These people will believe Colbert is the world's greatest ratings draw, and the last voice of democracy against "Trump's state-run media." But not that TV is dead.

More are melting down and posting theories and threats on reddit.

Yes, I definitely am drawn to a musical number where they unironically sing me the praises of an untested vaccine and piss and moan about the president every single show.

I read a description of Colbert's show that I think sums things up perfectly:
"I liked Colbert a lot better when was pretending to be dumb then when he pretends to be smart"

Also for the guy posting about Oliver, I remind you that Oliver is a british subject but films his show and lives in New York, instead of London, where he spends his professional and personal life melting down about the rest of the country he occupies instead of the one he is a citizen of.
Curious....

Of course La va’s are backwards on colbert’s show being canned.

Ofc, not even considering that it performs poorly as fuck these days in the ratings because they've pissed off one too many people with their PC crap. So of course CBS is gonna cut it because a $40M loss just from running it isn't exactly a joke.

You can't expect these dimwits to understand that though.

These shows were en route to being canceled for refusing to drop the orange man bad act post 2020; regardless though, the left relies upon twitch streamers and tik tokers to be their propaganda administers nowadays and they're far more effective.
Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.
People want a smaller budget but don't understand that the only means of doing that is by:
  • Nationalizing the entire defense industry (impossible)
  • Gutting entire social programs
You can't lower taxes to a substantial amount while also trying to maintain grossly oversized and mismanaged social programs.

So here is a quick tl;dr:
Broadcast TV is actually on the upswing. Free live streams have juiced the stats, limited availability of series episodes have improved viewership. Basically the broadcast industry is learning the lesson the RIAA is doing its damnest to unlearn, which is "if you provide your product for free and conveniently, you will make more money than charging".
The psychology on it that I read was, basically: Netflix now 95% utter slop, streaming services are fragmenting shows. Since people can't watch what they actually want to watch, they experience "choice overload" on option B; so if you have a curated stream of quality content with variety, people are more likely to put that on than binging 10 episodes of the same thing. So thanks to Netflix/Prime/Hulu/D+/etc slitting each other's throats, there is now a reemerging market for broadcast content.
there is some more shit to put in here about Hulu improving broadcast audiences because of allowing them to catch up on series, and increasing urban density putting more people in broadcast markers but I assume the point is made. Also about how cable is being dropped now that providers are unbundling TV & internet. And cost-cutting that happened during pandemic.

However, there are two caveats here.
First is that while broadcast TV is getting more eyeballs, those eyeballs are usually not coming from rabbit-ears. They are coming from streaming (YoutubeTV or similar) or local channels over cable.

Second is that Broadcast TV is likely to have a "Horse" effect.
That is, there are more privately owned horses and horse owners in the US NOW than there there in 1880. However, as a percent of the population, its miniscule and the segment of the population that rides horses as a daily method to get around are virtually non-existent (outside of Ohio and Pennsylvania; dutch amish territory) so their impact on the national cultural landscape is nil.

This is a very long, long way to say:
The numbers you need to look at for Colbert are not raw viewership - that is the number of people who just watch the show - but durational. The number of people who check out after the hour of hate opening monologue is extremely high, and viewership craters. This is standard for late night TV, but usually the viewership will stick around for the "headliner" - but when the headliner is just an "our team" polemic, people immediately check out often during the first commercial break. Ergo, the only ad slots worth a damn is the first one and maybe two, and everything else is SlapChop rates.
that is, not worth the number of daytime/primetime viewers that Colbert is turning away by making CBS seem like MSNBC.
