The site seems to suggest that the structure of 4 will be reworked into the arcade format of the first three games.

To be fair, THPS2 did not have peds around its levels until the third entry. It made sense, but I see how it tainted the original experience.

If anyone's still wondering, its been confirmed that THPS4 won't have the original open-world style career mode and it'll be changed to fit the 2 minute format. Also Bam won't be in it.

On the topic of remakes/remasters for the upcoming 3+4 release, there was another remake of Tony Hawk Pro Skaters 1 and 2 for the Xbox's launch: Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2x developed by Treyarch.
From a comment about the development of THPS2x for the Xbox:
That explains the graphical fidelity from the Xbox that was absent from THPS3. Treyarch is a studio that works under the wire. Also, notice Tony's outfit on the box arts for 2x and 3:
He's wearing the same thing presumably at the same location. That tells me this game was rushed since they used the same photo shoots from 3's box art.

So I've been playing 3+4 over the past day and oh my god is it a massive fucking downgrade:
I mean the only pluses of the game so far are that it's nice to just free skate around the updated levels of yore and loading levels isn't an exercise in twiddling your thumbs but this is such a shitty fucking game. The snappiness of the THPS 1+2 remaster is downgraded so badly and combos are broken because of it.
Maybe this is just an autistic overreaction, but the first impressions after playing 1+2 were "Man, they really nailed the feel of the old games, the soundtrack is 90% there and the new tracks are great" as I was grinning from ear to ear. This on the other hand is just straight trash.
- THPS4 levels condensed into 2 minute runs, which on paper MIGHT have been fun but 90% of the goals are just finding a bunch of collectables in this massive empty space because the levels aren't actually designed for this.
- Which reminds me, Carnival and Chicago have been cut entirely from THPS4 and replaced with two shitty levels.
- The soundtrack is 50% dogshit and the first track you hear in the entire game is some genuinely dogshit hiphop. I love me some rap and hip hop, but bad hiphop just grates like nails on a chalkboard.
- Bikini Girls on the cruise ship have been turned into random skaters to impress, so you can't identify who the fuck you're supposed to be tricking in front of, plus they're genuinely retarded and if you trick with their back to you then you don't get the praise.
- Tranny skater included and their bio is literally "the first transgender skater in the tony hawk's franchise"
- Remember how THPS3 had the silkiest most responsive inputs you'll ever play in a Tony Hawk's game? Yeah, now it's weirdly floaty and bouncy and combos will be absolutely wrecked by a revert or manual simply not registering at all.

Registering a manual with a combo is quickly tapping up and down on the D-Pad, correct?

Yep, but for some reason the game seems to struggle with up/down, down/up and combos in general so I think there's something fucky going on with inputs. Tried playing it with an Xbox Series controller and my old SN30 controller and both are really struggling with maintaining combos.
I hit the revert JUST as I drop down and mash up/down and either the revert fails, there's some weird bounce that breaks the combo or the manual just doesn't register.
Considering that the game is 90% cool fucking combos, struggling to hit a really good line has pissed me off somewhat. It's nowhere as bad as Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD (the 360 game that fucking sucked) but it's definitely worse than 1+2.

I tried manuals on the demo; I couldn't consistently get the rhythm down when I try to manual between tricks or gaps. Is there a tutorial for THPS 3+4?
I think there's only eight original tracks in this remake. Some of my favorites are still here but still from a purist standpoint, it's lacking.

The gutting of the entire format of THPS4's career mode is probably the loudest and most valid complaint about it. I don't it's an overreaction at all.
AndyTHPS, a former Neversoft dev who even did consulting work for THPS1+2, has a Youtube/Twitch and he's been critical of the game as well. He's been streaming the game since the early release and his basic thoughts areis that it's more or less more of 1+2. He makes it clear he doesn't want to insult the devs and realizes the majority is likely due to Activision but he's disappointed how stagnant it is as a release. In particular, he notes that all the online components are basically the same as THPS1+2. This is a pet peeve of his since his origins stem from the original THPS3 online scene. It's pretty sad how the remake has less offerings than the original which is now more than 20 years old at this point. But like any problems he had with 1+2 are still there. And while they obviously haven't been working during all that time but it's been 5 years since that game came out. It's not some DLC for THPS1+2, it's a new full fledged $50 game.

Activision definitely could've gotten alot more of the original 3 + 4 songs if they tried though. They likely could've gotten more than a few old songs for the same price for what that they paid Schoolboy Q for the song with Kendrick Lamar. Mind-boggling how Tony curated some of the best hip-hop (plus the others genres too) in the earlier games, blending in a good mix of underground with songs that got decent radioplay, but his music taste just fell off for the new releases. All but a couple of the new hip-hop songs in 1 + 2 were garbage (especially the song with Merkules), so I never really had too much hope for the new soundtrack. But at the same time people should recognize that the licensed soundtracks are a novelty nowadays, one can just look up playlists of the old soundtracks on Spotify and play them in the background and have basically the same experience.

- Car chase in San Fran which had gangbangers shooting at cops is now replaced by some woman who doesn't even fall to her doom.
- To unlock specific skateboards for each character you have to complete the game THREE TIMES.

Its sad because underground felt like the ultimate THPS game, but thanks to this remaster remake era we will never get anything as good or more importantly, better.
The old THPS games which were great fun were seriously limited by their level size. There was always potential for a large open world to skate in...which is what skate did. Now we are back to 2:00 runs like its 25 years ago.

I've seen gameplay of 3+4 from andyTHPS and honestly, it's about what I expected. The game probably didn't need to be a fully new release though, as being a $15 DLC for 1+2 would've been perfectly acceptable, but Activision will never settle on just that if there's more cash to be made selling the same game again. It worked the first several times, why stop there at that point?
The edge being sanded off is admittedly not good since it did make the OGs more personal to the devs as a series of fun projects. That and the music made those Neversoft titles kick ass so to hear that the OST for this one was half great is also disappointing. Now this isn't me excusing all of this for being a "modern" release, but you'd have to be kinda stupid to think that some sacrifices weren't going to be made. It's really unfortunate that this is what it is but I'd be lying if I said it was surprising.
I'll wait on an online torrent so I can play it for myself.

I recall that HD (in which you did mention) also had a similar problem with the reverts in the DLC not functioning as it should for some people. Are you sure that this issue isn't happening on just your end? I've been looking for people complaining about the reverts and manuals and there wasn't any mention I could find.
Nigga was also in 1+2 but I didn't even know this faggot was an enby until I saw the bio. I know some of those skinwalkers do like this series and skating is generally said to be for everyone but I feel that this is too on-the-nose, almost to a point that I feel Activision was congradulating themselves on fulfilling a checklist.
